Review: The tracklisting for Felix Dickinson's instalment of the famed Originals series on Claremont 56 was such a closely guarded secret that even Julian Assange's attempts to get his mitts on them were thwarted at every turn. So you can imagine our sense of childlike excitement when a batch finally arrived on the Juno doorstep this week. The man known to the discothoque as Foolish Felix is known and loved in London and beyond for his eclectic DJ sets and impeccable taste, and as such there's a wide spectrum of underappreciated, obscure gems here, from the languid salsa strut of Kolbe-Illenberger-Dauner's "Fun Tango" to the dubby brilliance of "Feeling Sleazy" by Fingers Inc, a track which predates the current vogue for sexual minimal house by, oh, a decade or two. This is an essential addition to your collection that matches up to the previous efforts from Sean P, Moonboots and Matthew Burgess & Jolyon Green. Strictly limited release.

Review: First things first: any release that opens with the peerless slow mo disco stylings of Fern Kinney's "Baby Let Me Kiss You" gets the Juno stamp of approval. In this case, we're pleased to report that the latest Disco Discharge mix maintains the high standards set by such an auspicious opening. Following on from editions such as Disco Boogie, European Connection and Diggin' Deeper, the Harmless imprint unleashes the Disco Fever USA volume, which, as the title suggests, hones in on some classic American disco action over two CDs, with Earth Wind & Fire, Linda Clifford, Gloria Gaynor and the late, great Teddy Pendergrass all featuring. Bonus points too for including "Like An Eagle" by former, erm, actor Dennis Parker, a track skilfully sampled by Linkwood and House Of Traps back in 2009. And all you DJs take note - this is totally unmixed, thus allowing you to instantly add a treasure trove of disco joints to your arsenal. Top release!

Review: The lovingly curated Sofrito parties, hosted by DJs Hugo Mendez and Frankie Francis alongside The Mighty Crime Minister, have grown beyond their roots in the, erm, tropical climes of East London to beach parties in Greece, shady Brooklyn bars and festivals ala WOMAD and the Big Chill. Showcasing the finest in Afro, Caribbean and Latin grooves, here we see the Sofrito collective's first compilation, and what better label to hook up with than the kings of all things funky and boutique, Strut? The selection on offer here certainly opened our ears to some dynamite tropical jams, which touch on everything from cumbia to Congolese jams, native Ghanaian funk, salsa and calypso. Basically, if it's exotic and you can dance to it, it's in here. The wonderfully distinctive artwork of Sofrito designer/illustrator Lewis Heriz adorns the packaging, with insightful notes accompanying each selection, highlighting how much time, effort and care has gone into selecting each and every track. It's early days yet, but we'll be surprised if we see another compilation that grabs our attention as much as this in 2011.

Review: Given his popularity and enduring appeal within the drum and bass community, it's something of a surprise to find that this is DJ Marky's first mix for the long running Fabriclive series. It's no doubt a product of Fabric's impressively eclectic music policy rather than a snub or oversight, but it still seems odd - especially considering the quality of the mix he's delivered. From start to finish, it sounds like Marky's having a ball. Propelled by a plethora of his own sun-soaked dub plates and a raft of quality cuts from compatriot S.P.Y, Fabriclive 55 slips impressively from one string-drenched roller to the next. Even when the mix takes a darker, moodier turn 30 minutes in, there's enough underlying musicality to ensure that the Brazilian's famous sense of fun prevails. Along the way, there are some terrific tracks to enjoy. Calibre's "Even If", from the excellent album of the same name, is an "Inner City Life" for our times, while there are few more immediately funky drum and bass tunes than Lynx's "Chess Funk". Throw in similarly impressive cuts from Die & Interface, Siren, Klute, Marcus Intalex, Logistics and S.P.Y (the awe-inspiring "By Your Side"), and you've got yourself a near perfect drum and bass mix.

Review: Immense triple CD offering from the Subtle Audio camp, who get knee deep in the more refined end of D&B, a sound the Irish label has aligned itself with since its inception. Many of the dark, creaky tracks that make up this selection share sonic similarities with techno, ambient and old school electro. The first two CDs come unmixed and feature a multitude of highlights: the stripped out rhythms of Mindmapper & Fre4knc's "Fangtooth", the subterranean squelch of "6,000 Degrees" by CJ Weaver and metallic groans of Kontext's "Thaw" standing out above the rest. Young producer NicTVG wins the award for best track title with "I'm Sorry I Puked On Your Dress" - the results of which are surprisingly gentle. The third CD comes mixed by label boss DJ Code, who takes us on a 16-track sojourn through his favourite Sutble Audio moments. An essential release, and one that will challenge any preconceptions you may have about the drum and bass genre.

Review: Legendary New York jock Timmy Regisford has long championed the sound of soulful house, taking immense pride in playing and producing meaningful, emotive songs ahead of functional tracks. As such, each of the 13 songs that appear on the At The Club album are fronted by a vocalist, with Arnold Jarvis, Kenny Bobien and Fela Kuti among those involved with the project. It's the two appearances by the inimitable Kuti - namely "Sorrow, Tears & Blood" and "Beats Of No Nation" - that are the favourites here at Juno HQ, with the sultry tones of "Someone Like You" featuring Lynn Lockarmy not far behind. With Regisford's much loved Shelter club in NYC set to relaunch next month, the timing of this release couldn't be any better.
