Review: Disco tweaker extraordinaire Nicholas drops this unmixed CD that's bound to fly off the shelves. The Italian has been in prolific form this year, leading the Latin edit charge with his No More Hits imprint, and here we see a host of tracks previously only available on vinyl (or not at all) that tread the line effortlessly between disco and house. Highlights range from killer slo-mo stylings ("Depth Of My Soul"), dubby Chicago house ("On My Own"), synthy 80s goodness ("Get You") and the suitably epic "Don't Make Me Wait", whose sultry vocals make it a favourite in the Juno office.

Review: Glenn Underground returns with his first album proper in some six years in a collaborative release between his own Strictly Jazz Unit imprint and the Circular Motion label. Whilst Glenn dropped a classic refix of Erykah Badu recently, his inclusion on Rick Wilhite's Vibes New & Rare compilation was let down slightly by some corny kung fu sampling. Underground Legacy Of The Know more than makes up for that with eleven tracks of vintage Glenn Underground productions. The opening jazzy leanings of "7th Trumpet" set the tone for what to expect with the sweeping piano melodies and searching pads that characterise the opening bars soon engulfed by a power sax! From here, Underground introduces vocalist Consuela Ivy on "I Am Not In Love (I Jus Wanna Dance)" one of three tracks featuring her soulfully deep delivery which fits the tight house leaning perfectly in each instance. What really impresses throughout is Underground's mastery of instruments, with the heavy Rhodes organs and string movements that pace out the vintage deep shimmer of the title track providing the album's most rewarding moments.

Review: Hot on the heels of the launch of his new label Woe To The Septic Heart just last month, Berlin based producer Shackleton mixes the 55th fabric mix and in doing so cements his stamp on the series with a superb collection of predominantly unreleased tracks alongside material from Disco, Perlon and Hotflush. Inspired by his times at London's flagship club, Shackleton blends dancefloor vibes with his unique, dynamic touch, focusing on atmosphere, mood and effect with masterful precision. Abstract and enticing, the mix kicks off, perhaps rather aptly with dubbed out roller, "Come Up" which encourages us to do just that, as if some sort of intoxicated haze of bongo drums and heady bass - a sound which is echoed again in "Visontele". Later on we get "Man On A String Part 1 & 2" - the first release on WTTSH - which changes the pace again, before the final passage marks a return to the murky atmospherics of the beginning, with eerie vocal snatches urging us to "let go let go let go", as unerring tribal drums and creepy atmospherics swirl around from beneath. Overall, it's a superbly sewn together collection of tracks, which echo and interact with one another throughout the eighty-minute duration.

Review: Markus Nikolai and Zip's peerless Perlon imprint gives a commanding lesson in music - the raw, minimal and dubby kind - via this superlative 28 track mix double CD of unreleased material, the fifth instalment of their Superlongevity series. The names themselves are enough to have us salivating - Baby Ford, Shackleton, Sammy Dee, Cassy, Portable Riccy Villalobos all appear - as well as the first Daniel Bell track since 2003, which is utterly amazing if we do say so ourselves. And it's all mixed together in superb fashion, with a neat line drawn between the artists and styles that make up the label's towering roster.

influenced tip. More soulful/sung vocal territory includes an upfront track from Nostalgia 77’s upcoming album (due in 2011) and the
cinematic sound of the amazing Hidden Orchestra, whose debut album, ‘Night Walks’ has just been released to high acclaim and was
September’s Album of the Month on BBC Radio 1 Introducing in Scotland.

With names like Dennis Ferrer, Louie Vega, Steve Angello and Treasure Fingers all represented here, there's greatness at every turn on this mix. Definite highlights include the classic piano-styles of Nathan G's "88 Keys To Love", Round Table Knights version of the epic "Coma Cat" or the Balearica mix of DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto's effortlessly funky "Canoa". A great collection spread over three unmixed CDs that's well worth getting stuck into.

Review: 20:20 Vision do the world of music a favour by releasing the latest album by veteran French artiste Carl Finlow. You may know Finlow via one of his many other pseudonyms (Carbon Academy, Voice Stealer, Silicon Scally to name a few), and his third LP for the Leeds based imprint doesn't disappoint. The slow burning disco-electro-funk of "Infrarouge" openings proceedings, before we are introduced to the robust "Beaten" which will please fans of Gomma and Relish. Head to the beefy bassline of "Tab" for the album's most overtly club friendly moment (along with "Love Is Electric"), while the mechanical groans and chops of the title track sound like a sampled steel factory during production hours. It's the clever combination of robust, synthy disco that permeates through every track that makes this an utterly beguiling and very listenable album.

himself with the celebrated Africanism project and ultimately founding his own label, Faya Combo, in the new millennium.
In 1996 DJ Gregory made his recording debut with a Cerrone Sample, 'Take the Cash & Run', on Basenotic Records as Cheesy D. Then he hits the charts with his remix of cheek 'Venus' Sunshine People. Throughout the remainder of the decade, he produced additional tracks under a series of monikers - namely Bobby Ewing, G, Prassay, Carinhoso Project, and DJ Gregory - for a variety of labels, most notably Yellow Productions, home of DJ Yellow and Bob Sinclar. In 2000 he began producing tracks as Africanism, a collaborative project on Yellow Productions.
Established as a hit maker, DJ Gregory founded his own label in 2002, Faya Combo, and released 'Tropical Soundclash', and 'Elle' (2003). During this same time period, he and Bob Sinclar mixed the double-disc Africanism (2002); plus, he and Julien Jabre produced a series of tracks for Basic Recordings under the Soha moniker. In 2004 Gregory was awarded 'Most Innovative Producer' at the House Music Awards. In subsequent years, DJ Gregory affiliated himself with Defected Records, on which he released Faya Combo Sessions (2008), a three-CD collection of his work (the first disc a DJ mix, the second a compilation of his productions, the third a compilation of productions as remixed by others). Year 2008: Gregory relocates to Amsterdam, now exploring the Dutch club scene and collaborates with Holland's finest producers. Meanwhile he takes on a couple of projects, travelling back and forth to Brazil and Angola and working with the local artists.
Gregory is without doubt the current king of the House beats and it's with this that he is awarded the honour of House Master with a 2 disc package of original productions and those who have remixed his work.
Including the brand new 'Paris Luanda', 'Vem Rebola', 'Soldiers' alongside classics such as 'S2' and 'The Jouburg Theme'; CD1 is the roundup of his original productions.
CD2 is a collection of those who have been given the hefty task of re-interpreting Gregory's trademark beats and remixing his talents. Highlights here include: Kenny Dopes 'Tropical Soundclash' remix, Louie Vega's EOL rework of 'Elle' and Karizma's 'Don't Panic' dub.

Review: Tirk is one of a sprinkling of label's intrinsic to the return of the disco beat to our collective hearts since their emergence in 2004, and as they deliver their third compilation it's clear they want to explore other avenues. Tirk 03 is a bridge between the label's present and future with the disco ink blotted by sojourns through psychedelic rock, proper house music, contorted funk, cavernous dubisms, retro Gallic smoothness and 80s freestyle sounds. Tirk regulars such as Architeq, The Love Supreme and Richard Norris find themselves surrounded by new acts. Norris features prominently with a refix of new singings Molly Wagger complemented by two tracks from his Set Phasers To Stun album as The Time & Space Machine; the Buffalo Springfield leaning psychedelic pop of "After The Goldrush" is delightful. It's the glimpse at what's to come that proves most exciting here, with Sportoloto and Son Of Sound impressing in particular. "Will I" from the East End dwelling former coves your senses in a sheen of shimmering piano led twilight house bliss whilst the latter's "Life Under Bridges" delves deep into reverberant 80s freestyle boogie.
