Droid (6:45)
Smashin (5:17)
Indeed (5:43)
Ain't No Shit (6:05)
Review: The YAY Recordings label has only been around for one year, but we're already feeling the heat from all angles. We love imprints that come up with new and exciting talent, especially when they're releasing techno as loose and heartfelt as this four-tracker from newcomer Audri. "Droid" kicks things into motion with a blurry haze of washed-out electronics, but it's "Smashin'" that spins our heads around and gets us nodding up and down to its minimal yet pulsating groove. On the flip, "Indeed" is closer to the electro end of the spectrum thanks to its metallic percussion and brittle arrangement, whereas "Ain't No Shit" unleashes a devilish little techno number that sits just right with us. More YAY, please...

King County Metro Transit (S Olbricht remix)
Review: Madrid's Go! Finger takes the vinyl path again launching some selected tracks from one of their most notable cassette releases to date: Route 8 and S. Olbricht's "Ste Pwri Tmod - Selected Works", Budapest's Farbwechsel duo's early efforts together on Go! Finger. Well known by their most recent releases on Lobster Theremin, Nous, Opal Tapes, Delsin, Gang of Ducks and This Is Our Time, "Selected Works" is finally pressed to please all the hard sick heads eager to play and mix a copy on wax loud! Enjoy this preview of a piece that includes S.P.T. Ballacid's original live recorded tracks "Don't Miss Us Florida" & "King County Metro Transit" plus their respective Route 8 & S. Olbricht remixes. Amazing raw analog deep jam cuts. Stunningly strong stuff. Floorkiller!

Alexandria (7:04)
Track 2 (1:08)
Mesopotamia (6:01)
Track 4 (2:47)
Review: Liverpool-based producer John Heckle is remarkably prolific, but still manages to maintain an impressively high quality threshold. On Tributes To A Sun God, he's in a remarkably melodious mood. While opener "Alexandria" comes blessed with his usual tough analogue beats - not to mention the hissing cymbals of Detroit techno - its' most endearing features are the drowsy pads and undulating melody lines. A similar approach can be found on the more acid-centric "Mesopatamia", which pops and spits with dancefloor intent. A fine package is completed by handclap-heavy drum workout "Track 4", and the Ambient House era electronics and sparse drum hits of "Track 2".

Frey'd
L A T
Golden Burn
Review: The man behind the track that Move D proclaimed "owned the dome at freerotation" , returns with 3 new tracks of deep machine grooves, his first release since 2013's Analogue Mapping. "Frey'd" is built around a synth patch stumbled upon whilst conducting a test on one of bovill's machines with rennouned Synth engineer Frey Smith. Opening with playful ,bubbling analogue tones and nostelgic pads, before characteristic basslines, percussion and 303 lines join in, ending on a spaced out contemplative groove . " L.A.T. " is a more stripped down track, which ebbs and flows around subtle builds, tweeks, and delays, perfect for the deeper late night dancefloor. Closing the ep is Golden burn, the deepest and most dubbed out of the 3 tracks, sprinkled with emotive keys, and underpinned by distinctive bass lines.

SoulPhiction - "Sky So High" (5:52)
Mike Dehnert - "Zumwald" (6:39)
Review: Bang, boom, biff! New label alert from contemporary house maestros Soulphiction and Mike Dehnert, a collaboration which has caught us by surprise and left us trailing by the wayside. Masterful. Hands & Tief is the name of the home to this punchy two-tracker that sees both artists put on their techno mask and offer something a little moodier than their usual output, respectively. "Sky So High" is Soulphiction going for a distorted, industrial approach and it works like a charm; the tune's percussion is raw and mashable in any mix, the bassline ominous and intriguing, and the groove powerful and body-moving. Mike Dehnert's "Zumwald" is more in line with his usual bags of tricks, except that here the lower frequencies are more aligned to the electro dynasty than a classic 'Berlin' approach. Both sleek, effective dance floor bangers recommended for pretty much any DJ wanting to lay down some heat!

STR (6:29)
Review: Melbourne's Butter Sessions are back, this time with local upstart Cale Sexton with the new East Link EP. Starting out with "E-Tagging" which has the early nineties deep house sound going on, featuring some lush analogue pads and an e-sax which was a nice touch particularly. Label head honchos Sleep D get on board to lend a helping hand on the pumping electro disco odyssey "Peninsula Link" while "Unsure Everything" featuring Samuel Davidson gets ultra deep, bittersweet and emotive like classic Mr Fingers.

Review: Mighty, mighty vibrations from the Berceuse Heroique camp who unleash Control / Information / Version, a monstrous double pack of paranoia-filled dubs from Young Echo associate Ossia. A man who is involved in most of everything that's good in Bristol, Ossia has kept his production output to a bare minimum with that immense BEB 12" last year complemented by some low-key sonic experiments as DJ Oa$i$. You feel Ossia won't be able to hide in the shadows of recognition once people here these tracks in the dance, this is some devastating dancefloor tackle that's been perfectly mastered. Dread Nox (6:22)
Portals (7:59)
Tea & Oranges (6:11)
Review: Having impressed with last year's Let That Shit Breathe E.P, Billy Werner once again dons the M/R guise for another forthright and intoxicating outing on L.I.E.S. There's been plenty of chatter about this E.P's lead cut, "Dread Nox", and it's not hard to see why. Built around dusty, pitched-down jungle breaks, disconnected vocal samples, metallic electronics and curious ambient textures, it's a little reminiscent of some of Future Sound of London's more claustrophobic efforts. "Portals" sees Werner successfully fuse bouncy, broken techno rhythms - built around restless drum machine handclaps and rubbery kick drums - with a whisper of acid and some seriously creepy textures, while "Tea & Origins" sounds like a stripped-back Autechre roller.

Hyperbolic Paths (5:45)
Suborbital Trajectories (6:06)
Inclination (6:03)
Eccentricity (5:06)
Review: It would be fair to say that Oscar Mulero is a techno purist. Over the last 16 years, he's built a solid reputation via 12" singles and albums that rarely stray from techno's hypnotic, heavyweight roots. Hyperbolic Paths, his first EP for Token since 2008, continues on this path. Its' four cuts are built around bombastic, full-throttle rhythm tracks, unsettling chords and undeniably trippy, looped melody lines. The standout track is arguably "Suborbital Trajecteries", which combines spacey, rising and falling synthesizer motifs with beefed-up, tropical-influenced techno drums and sweaty, constantly building percussion fills. The deeper and dub influenced closing track, "Eccentricity", is also quietly impressive.

Review: Lakker artist Ian McDonnell realigns with Bedouin Records for a most conceptual of albums as Eomac, the result of an invitation to use samples from the Arabic world sourced by the label, in a bid to cross cultural boundaries in a typically modern fashion. Bedouin approached McDonnell due to his life as an Irish man living in Berlin, further emphasizing the displacement of the original source material. As the Irish producer explains in the album's press release, he took great care to treat the source material with sensitivity and respect in order to understand the context of what he was working with. Apparently he submitted over 30 tracks, which has been condensed down into this 10-track album by Bedouin and adds a compelling chapter to Eomac's brand of brutal yet supple electronic production.

Hype Beast (4:42)
Rejected (5:34)
Jungle Ting (8:06)
Review: From Get Physical, to 100% Pure, and even Deeply Rooted House, we can safely say that Emmanuel has built himself a string tech-house curriculum. However, it's his more recent material on his own Darkmatter Inc that has tuned our ears onto his sound, and this latest bombshell might well be one of his best. That's because his tech-house days have led him to produce some truly swinging techno jams now, and much like Shed with his Head High project, "Hype Beast" is a huge, driving dance floor anthem backed by a booming kick and rattling percussion swings - excellent! "Rejected" is equally banging and naughty on the low-end, but here we're definitely in a darker techno mode, which leaves "Jungle Ting" to offer another sublime house/techno hybrid fuelled by pure drum magic. Techno tip of the week!!

Full Spectrum (Juniper dub) (7:46)
Review: When he made his debut on Nous Disques last year, there was much discussion about whether O Xander - AKA DJ Rei Ayanami - was actually from Antarctica, as his sparse Soundcloud profile claimed. Either way, he's decided to roll with the theme on this fine follow-up, From Antarctica With Love. The EP's five tracks variously touch on icy electro ("Snowspeeder Blues"), windswept acid ("Thru Our Veins"), glacial electronica ("A Perfect Balance"), and clanking, mechanical techno (the deep but metallic "Full Spectrum"). The latter track is also featured in Juniper Dub form, with the Smallville and meandyou duo excelling at combining cut-up melody snippets with rolling, drum machine rhythms.

Stomping Grounds (4:48)
Don't Stop The Beat (6:04)
Stomping Grounds 2 (5:47)
The Kissing Game (5:57)
Review: It was 1993 when Chicago's DJ Skull first released these four face-melters, and we can only imagine the faces of the dancers hearing this for the first time, amid a frenzy of other, softer variations of house. Be warned: this is still a frightening prospect on the dance floor today, as it was almost 25 years ago. The Southside DJAX affiliate re-drops the never-ending tunnel of a tune that is "Stomping Grounds", followed by the more minimal, stripped-back percussion shots of "Don't Stop The Beat". On the flip, "Stomping Grounds 2" ups the tempo and chucks in a layer of hypnotics round the lower tones, while "The Kissing Game" reduces the tension and aggression of the previous tunes down to a softer, more soulful house swing guided by that dusty drum machine programming that makes it signature Skull material.

Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase (9:06)
And Again Those Eyes (0:54)
Meiosis Gametes (6:36)
Review: London-based electronic artist Karen Gwyer has kept on impressing us over the last four years. With releases for labels like No Pain In Pop, Kaleidoscope, and Nous, Semtek's Don't Be Afraid seems like a natural fit to her improvisational take on techno. "Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase" is a stunner, a nine minute techno journey thats spans the whole length of the A-side with its loose, aqueous groove barely held in place by raw, analog drum programming. On the flip, "And Again Those Eyes" sees the artist return to more familiar territories thanks to a broken sway of beats and melodics, whereas "Meiosis Gametes" is a harsh, menacing techno swing with an electrifying buzz running through its groove. Solid, as per usual. This material comes hotly recommended.

Snake Eyes (O/V/R remix) (5:41)
Bad Blood (Perc remix) (6:17)
Back Alley Sally (Randomer remix) (6:06)
Review: Perc Trax has commissioned some of techno's most respected artists to rework tracks from Ansome's debut album. First up is the titan tag team that is O/V/R. In James Ruskin and Regis' hands, "Snake Eyes" turns into a cavernous broken beat track laden down with haunted vocals. For his part, Perc keeps a straight focus for the heads-down techno version of "Bad Blood", while Randomer turns "Back Alley Sally" into a labyrinth of doubled up drums and shuffling rhythms. The last remix is left to the newest artist but Ossian doesn't disappoint and his take on "Blackwater" is a wild, analogue acid workout that recalls the wild sonic excesses of Woody McBride.

Undertow (6:33)
Traction Time (5:25)
Lifeline (6:29)
Technoid (5:12)
Review: Apart from a fabulously 90s style website and a few YouTube videos, Activ Analog remains a pretty mysterious name. Could it be a him, a her, or even a them? We're not sure. However, we are and have been continuously impressed by their music over the past fifteen or so years. That's right, Activ Analog was first spotted in 1999, and the artist(s) has continued to release sporadically ever since, with the last two years seeing a sudden rise in new material. Assemble Music is the label to host these cold and utterly palatable techno cuts; four killer tunes that contain a distinctly analog sound to them. "Undertow" is a chilly warehouse driller with subtle waves of acid, while "Traction Time" is coated in a much more vivid 'house' framework. The B-side features another two tunes, the bouncy, militant industrial techno joint named "Lifeline", and the deeper, more pensive sonic landscapes of "Technoid".

Never (5:51)
Stateless (5:10)
Track 3 (5:30)
Review: Somewhat surprisingly, it's been two years since Imre Kiss's most recent outing on Lobster Theremin, the fine Raw Energy EP. This belated follow-up - his first 12" single since - is every bit as essential. Perhaps the most striking track is "Never", a fizzing but spaced-out techno excursion that makes great use of tumbling sub-bass and dreamy, ambient style chords. That said, the slower and even more bass-heavy curiosity that is "Stateless" - mutant broken techno fused with ultra-deep house - is almost as good, while bold, bumpin' B-side "Track 3" is the EP's most straightforward dancefloor moment.

Power Flower (5:35)
Review:  Bryan Kessler has already released on labels like Get Physical, but this outing for Numbers really sees him prove his worth as a techno producer. The emphasis here is on grimy warehouse techno; it starts with the woozy chords and insistent stabs of "Super Boo" before heading into a scuzzy direction on "Hi How Are You", where dollops of dirty bass and some crowd whoops prevail. Air raid sirens, train shrieks and tough drums come together to create a killer title track and it's only on the final track "Power Flower'' - where Kessler rattles snares over a toy-town synth - that some sense of melody appears.
