Birds (8:21)
Tubular Bells (Oldfield) (7:46)
Review: There's been much online chatter about Levon Vincent's latest 12". Sadly, it's not been about A-side "Birds" - a thrillingly ragged, aggressive and powerful acid thumper that's up there with the producer's most potent work - but rather what's lurking on the flip. As the title suggests, "Tubular Bells" is a cover of Mike Oldfield's most famous work, whose twinkling melody remains one of the most famous and well known in popular music. Vincent retains that melody line, looping it up and tweaking it out over a typically rubbery and fuzzy 4/4 house groove. Some will love it, others won't; either way, A-side "Birds" is superb, making Vincent's latest Novel Sound 12" an essential purchase.

Maskindans
Hissige Helger
Langbolgen
Gloymde Skogar
Review: Very cool ep from Skatebard on Vivod ! A mixed bag from the prolific Norwegian producer showing us why he's still at the top of his game. "Maskindans" kicks things off with some speak & spell funk followed by "Hissige Helger", a brooding Chicago-style banger sure to tear up some discoteques across the planet. On the flip are "Langbolgen" and "Gloymde Skogar". The former is an acid style work out, the latter is more of a subtle, hypnotyizing opus. All very strong tracks. Don't sleep on this. They will go fast !

The Holy Fix - "Black Rubber"
Khidja - "World Of Noon"
Borusiade - "Marsch"
Utopus - "Re-Velvet"
Review: P-Balans is a new imprint in the Future Nuggets emerging constellation. A tehnodelia ramification within the Bucharest electronic scene that will host rising names like Khidja and Borusiade while introducing new characters like The Holy Fix (Camil Dumitrescu, co-member of Delusion Men) and Utopus (Ion D, producer of Steaua de Mare, Raze de Soare, Anahore?ii among others) already featured on "Sounds on the Unheard from Romania vol. 2". Keeping the same strategies of fusion and diffusion as Future Nuggets, P-Balans will explore the space traversal to techno, entering and exiting the dark halls of the club through multiple doors.

Theologian - "Death Elemental" (17:48)
Ancient Methods - "A German Love" (6:02)
Ancient Methods - "Built On Scars" (6:00)
Review: Theologian has many releases under his belt under a numerous variety of aliases, but the artist has never before collaborated with Germany's iconic Ancient Methods, and it sounds like the two have a lot in common when it comes to techno. The former doesn't really indulge any anything beat-laden, and his "Death Elemental" tune is nothing but pure, cerebral noise from hell. However, that fits in perfectly well with Ancient Method's two coldblooded blasters, "A German Love" and "Built On Scars", a pair of dark and mechanical percussion bombs built for a room with a considerable soundsystem and people with a heavy stomach. Sick.

Review: As Until My Heart Stops turns 10, we head back across the Atlantic , this time to Boston and a stunning ep from the still hugely under rated DeViere.DeViere is a music producer and radio disc jockey (Progressive Black, 90.3 FM WZBC Newton) based in Boston, Massachusetts. He first came to our attention with the Transcendental Numbers ep on Jamal Moss' Mathematics label in 2012 and we've waited on each release ever since, including last year's huge Future Shock Disco ep (a collaboration with Jamal himself). Here DeViere presents 3 beautiful examples of his deep, soulful craft and a fitting way for UMHS to hit double figures.

Silhouettes 1 (7:56)
Silhouettes 2 (8:05)
Review: Mysterious newcomer Eric Miller is back again on Sushitech, following up this year's brilliant Flora LP: and what an explosive introduction that was! Starting out with the deep, dark and driving tech house of "Silhouette 1"; this is the kind of late groove that you could imagine Delano Smith or Jerome Sydenham pumping out to set the cruise control. On the flip we've got "Silhouettes 2" which really shows us how you do do proper dub techno in the tradition of greats like label mate Steve O'Sullivan or Detroit's Luke Hess: this one rolls at you deeply with a restrained ferocity that's perfect arsenal for any serious DJ's record bag.

Sensation (Rrose remix) (8:32)
Clear (Abdulla Rashim remix) (8:44)
Review: A year on from the release of Sensation, Daniel Avery has decided to get the track - and its' original B-side, "Clear" - remixed. Sandwell District and Eaux eccentric Rrose is the artist given the task of transforming "Sensation". She does that well, re-casting Avery's upbeat original as a clanging, clandestine chunk of trippy, feverish, late night techno full of infected electronics, creepy pads, and soft-focus rhythms. Fellow experimentalist Abdulla Rashim picks up the baton on the flip, delivering a version of "Clear" built around dense, pulsating percussion, ghostly electronics, and occasionally confused offbeat kick-drums. It's far bolder and more obviously club-ready than the A-side, but a little less intriguing.

Soki Loka (6:40)
Disaster Crash (6:03)
Review: Rush Hour weirdo house production unit Faster Action loses Robert Bergman on this LIES BLK release with Interstellar Funk taking full control. Up top, "Soki Loka" is a loose and grainy techno bullet that seems to be breaking down with each new segment of the 4/4 before falling back into shape and bruising the listener further and further. Complementing this, "Disaster Crash" shows a more heads-down side to Faster Action, dominating by a pulsating kick drum permeating through a thick wall of molecular sonics and industrial atmospherics. Large and in charge, as per usual. LIES in the place - act faaast!

Review: German techno hero and known gun for hire Gregor Thresher teams up with Croatian hypnotic techno don Petar Dundov for two lethal weapons on the Spike EP for the always reliable Cocoon imprint. On the A side, the title track gets all tunnelling and transcendental on you with its trancey bassline, subtle yet energetic beat and disorienting synth swells; absolutely killer track for fans of Donato Dozzy or the Prologue sound. On the flip is the uplifting and melodic "Differentiator" whose dreamy and ethereal grace will get some real moments of psyched travelling on the dancefloor.

Beneath The Skin (6:21)
Trace To Nowhere (5:51)
Devil May Care (5:38)
Immersion (6:40)
Review: In a DJ and production career approaching two decades, Terence Fixmer's music has appeared on some real bastions of European techno - International Deejay Gigolo, Speedy J's Electric Deluxe, Prologue, CLR and Jealous God being just five. Last year saw Ostgut Ton added to that list, with the label giving the Belgian's iconic 2003 production "Aktion Mekanik Theme" a pleasantly-surprising reissue augmented by some high profile remixes (Nodge, Dettmann, Kobosil). Beneath The Skin adds further steel to that relationship and is a fine Ostgut debut for Fixmer, with the title track a devious muscle rippler of a modern EBM/techno hybrid DJ tool. Wait for those sirens to come in! "Trace To Nowhere" pairs up breathing vocals with alien-like acid squeaks over a stripped back techno patter whilst "Devil May Care" takes the lysergy into more foreboding territory. The tension eases as "Immersion" closes out the 12" on a more ambient techno tip.

Review: Alex Picone and Etienne are back with their Eticone moniker, their more raw and rugged side pressed up on minimal black labels for the heads. "Random Afternoon" is a dusty, percolated strain of tech-house that chugs away amid dubby bass tones and metallic drums, "Bectro" contains the same style and flair except that here the mood is more techno-minded, and "Wet Beta" rolls its full-bodied drums over subtle drum machine beat and stripped-back electronics. Wet, wild and perfectly crisp for deejay playback action.

The Soft Bounce (Daniel Avery rework) (6:49)
Third Mynd (BTU rework) (16:02)
Review: The Beyond The Wizard Sleeve project from Erol Alkan and Richard Norris finally delivered the psychedelic treat of a debut album we all knew they could this year. Having been preceded by some fine remix 12"s featuring Psychemagik and Shock Machine, Phantasy Sound pick up on the series again with a single featuring the highly-regarded talents of one Daniel Avery. The straight-faced DJ and producer turns his attentions to "The Soft Bounce," morphing the track into into a bubbly, bleep-heavy techno bullet with plenty of atmosphere and zest, whereas BTU rework "Third Mynd" into a whirlpool of sludgy outsider sonics that recall the weirder end of the Hanson Records spectrum. Fans of labels like PAN might well enjoy this little TIP!

Beyond The Sequence (17:38)
Beyond The Clouds (15:54)
Review: According to Rod Modell and Steve Hitchell, this live version of "Beyond the Clouds" was recorded live one evening in Tokyo where "there was a mystical element in the air, strobe lights, vaporous gas and electric dreams." It has been remastered by Bazza at Alchemy Studio London and has the classic and timeless Echospace vibe: glacial and textured, smoked/dubbed out and done like only these guys can. On the flip, the journey continues with "Beyond The Sequence", a cavernous and haunting descent into the void, assisted by sombre pads drenched liberally in delay, swimming violently through resonance and screaming gloriously through ring modulation. Proper and purist dub techno by the true masters. Pure bliss!

Persistence Of Vision (6:25)

In Equal Measure (5:59)
Review: Avian boss Shifted is back with more noisy and textural techno experiments on the Six Steps To Resurgence EP. Starting out with electrifying "Persistence Of Vision" with its snarling modular synth drone that carries the track atop of a violently galloping rhythm; this is the kind of techno we're digging right here! Next up "Anti" is a savage drone journey that polarizes you in frightful fashion over its three-minute entirety. Something what we thought was more usually associated with his Alexander Lewis alias. Finally on the flip he gets back into straight up techno with "In Equal Measure", a tunnelling and trance inducing cut with its strong pads subliminally grasping you while the snarling and syncopated percussion grooves you in a particularly sinister fashion.

Review:  Very few can do po-faced, gothic techno as eloquently as the UK's dark lord Sigha, the Our Circula sound main man returning on Belgian hard techno imprint Token with the rather restrained "Christ Figures" which makes up for the kind of aggression most usually associated with him (and the label), with its exploration in tension, texture and functionality. Review: London label Pacific Command brings the heat again, this time courtesy of Vancouver act 1800HAIGHTSTREET (Lobster Theremin/Mork) who follow up some killer releases by nthng and Reflec. Starting out with the lush and deeply hypnotic "Georhythms" with its airy pads, broken beat and tribal percussion, they then get stuck into the fierce industrial techno rage of "Apprentice" which calls to mind classic Marcel Dettmann or more recently Fango. Finally, on the flip is "Interactions" which carries on with the more aggressive tendencies with its reverb and delay drenched aesthetics, creating some properly tunnelling vibes for sure-fire dancefloor impact.

Review: Japanese experimenter Kouhei Matsunaga has been quietly building an exceptional discography as NHK yx Koyxen and the numerous variances. With prior NHK yx Koyxen output on PAN, Skam and Raster Noton, Matsunaga's growing alliance with Powell's Diagonal label makes perfect sense. After debuting on Diagonal last year, he's back with Doom Steppy Reverb, a fresh NHK yx Koyxen LP that expands on his fuzzy, texture-laden, leftfield techno blueprint. So, while there's plenty of industrial-influenced darkness, claustrophobic tape hiss, and redlined rhythms, the Japanese artist also includes quietly beautiful textures and hazy, looped melodies. This is most evident on the foreboding, late night swing of "Y", where the application of dub delays helps emphasize the skewed, doom-laden mood. Superb artwork too!!!

The Mexico EP starts out with the stripped and tunnelling hypnotism of the title track or the particularly atmospheric "The Licker"; these are tracks that make a great DJ tool for any serious DJ. "Chez Dre" is a thick slab of industrial style techno with a wall of bass that will topple crowds, plus those dub techno stabs and CJ Bolland style mentasms for added fear factor! Review: There's an uncanny, yet distorted resemblance to the Omar S. Berlin Mix of Gunnar Wendel's "578" in Redshape's raving "Tel Aviv", the first cut from a series of EPs the German plans to release to mark a decade of live performance. To be released across a range of labels, Gerd Janson's Running Back is first up to honour the masked producer with his personal celebration of music. Sublight Velocities (7:08)
Semiclassical Gravity (8:17)
Review: Adam 'X' Mitchell is back again under the alias which essentially re-launched his career five years ago. This time his hypnotic techno excursions do not come via Chris Liebing's CLR, but rather, it's Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions serving up these two dark and sinister snapshots of his most recent work. Mitchell finds a fitting home here, given his recent forays into industrial music under the ADMX-71 alias and "Sublight Velocities" does a great job of bridging the gap between the two projects with its droning loops trancing you out nicely while the metallic beats hammer away in factory-like fashion. "Semiclassical Gravity" features a slow burning EBM style arpeggiation over doomy synth stabs while steely drum patterns smash it out with restrained violence.

Review: For this expansive double-pack of reworks of tracks from Cassy's debut album, Donna, Will Saul has assembled an impressive cast of remixers. First out of the blocks is Marcel Dettmann, whose hypnotic, late night interpretation of "Move" fixes dubbed-out organ riffs to a bustling techno rhythm. Ron Bacardi's version of "All I Do" sounds like a cross between Twilo-era tribal house, and bumpin' old skool U.S garage, while Radio Slave is at his druggy, early morning best in stretching out "Keep Trying" (first on the club-friendly "Feel Raw" mix, and later on the K-hole embracing, pitched-down "100 Reasons Remix"). If that wasn't enough to set the pulse racing, there's also a brilliantly melodious and emotion-rich remix of "Feel" from Yoruba Soul.

Starting out with "1271" with its deeply rolling groove; it's just so sublime and that pitch shifted monologue gives it that epic feel. "MKV" dives even deeper into the abyss, its overdriven aesthetic only adding to the vibe; all echo laden atmosphere resonating violently.. yet full of bliss.
