How We Relate To The Body (12" mix)
Now We Relate
Review: Jam City's Classical Curves remains one of the 2012's most unique albums, and "How We Relate To The Body", one of the album's standout tracks receives an extended 12" mix on this latest Night Slugs white label. A screaming piece of futuristic echo-chamber house characterised by its squealing synths, smooth piano and wobbling sub-bass, its nonetheless upstaged on this disc by the all new track "Now We Relate". A 9 minute epic which stretches out Jam City's hyperreal house template like a piece of elastic, it constantly hovers on the edge of mayhem for what seems like an eternity. Keeping the kick drum back until halfway through, its peak time stabs skipping maniacally like a broken record before dropping in with all the force of some lost Underground Resistance production. Essential.

Review: As one third of the Hessle Audio triumvirate, Kevin McAuley - better known as Pangaea - has been responsible for some of the label's best releases. The eight track Release represents his most potent statement to date; continuing the rolling pirate radio techno direction he started with last year's Hex and Inna Daze EPs. Beginning with the Missy Elliot sampling "Game", he sets out the stall for the rest of the EP, a combination of tough, steeled-up steppers rhythms and dub techno textures. Whether listening to the abstract melodies of the title track, the blistering pace of the searing "Majestic 12" or the broken garage of Middleman, its clear that Pangaea is still light years ahead of the competition.

In Her City
Sin Love With You
Meu
Lock Lock Key Key
Review: Berlin-based operation Leisure System score a big hit with this, their fourth release, premiering the partnership of Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum in a holy matrimony of refined modern electronics. Opening track "In Her City" has the sheen of Edgar all over it, but the ravey chops have a Machinedrum cheek to them. What's most striking though is that as a whole, the result is wonderfully fresh. On the clipped funk-dream-pop mash-up of "Sin Love With You", or the jagged intricate wiggle of "Meu", this is the sound of two artists meeting perfectly in the middle without any battle of egos and instead creating an excellent new whole.

Turtle Fight
Review: Having already marked himself out as a producer to keep an eye on with his EP for Deadplate early this year, Artifact moves to Local Action for another EP of swung UKG influenced techno. Two of these tracks are refined versions of tracks that have been in Local Action sets for the past few years; "Worn" combines a strong but lean rhythm with a wonky acid-tinged bassline, building up the drama with its rising strings to create a unique hybrid of techno and UKG, in the vein of Mosca's killer cuts for 3024, while "Turtle Fight" takes the acid theme full throttle with its combination of fierce squelch and rapidfire vocals. Finally, new track "Drain" combines the atmospherics and vocal trickery of early Joy Orbison with metallic, industrial percussion and warbling sub-bass.

Review: Brighton-based synth-step explorer Alan Myson is nothing if not prolific; Nebula Dance is his third full-length in five years. Like previous excursions, Nebula Dance sees him attempting to join the dots between dubstep rhythms, synth-wave melodies, clattering IDM grooves and the shimmering sweeps of classic electronica. It's a sound dripping with positivity, and the result is an album that somehow manages to sound both self-consciously grandiose and impressively intimate. Tracks like "Intercruise" and "Glokk" bristle with retina-sharp melodies and glistening electronics, all atop rhythms that are seemingly pulling you in different directions. It's a delicious combination, that's for sure.

Serious Bidness
Hundred Mil
Moment Of Truth
Adventure Tune
Review: Clicks & Whistles are a duo (one a programmer, the other a classically trained whizz) from North Carolina and together they have carved a niche with a sound resulting from their idiosyncratic influences. Upon hearing tracks like "Serious Bidness", it's apparent that they have clearly absorbed a lot of local Southern hip-hop, while "Hundred Mil" goes further still: venturing into sinister Salem-style juke territory. Conversely, both "Moment Of Truth" and "Adventure Tune" are pure mid-80s synth-hop-pop workouts! A varied and unique release.

First Forlane
Second Forlane
Third Forlane
Review: Making quite a splash with his brilliant EP for Ramp sub-label Fourth Wave, Dutch producer Felix Lenferink returns on Shipwrec with a similarly intricate trio of bass/house dissections. "First Forlane" comes across like a jazzy, broken-beat take on fellow Dutchman 2562's choppy techno, as churning subs mingle with autumnal melodies, while "Second Forlane" is a more driving production, combining neon synths with forceful kicks and metallic percussion, creating something very much in the Jacques Greene mould. "Third Forlane" offers Lenferink's most stripped back offering, piling discordant keys over dry 808 rhythms, combining with a bold vocal with rich harmonics.
