Gotta Do (9:37)
Take Me (feat Charli Umami) (8:52)
Review: Metro Area's Darshan Jesrani has more than proven himself with elegant, understated, disco-infused grooves over the years, so you shouldn't need telling that this new 12" for Imogen is an essential for any smooth groovers. The A side jam, "Gotta Do," certainly aligns itself with the towering legacy of Metro Area in its shimmering synth lines and snappy percussive ripples. However the B side strikes a slightly different tone, coming on more forthright thanks in no small part to the excellent vocal turn from Charli Umami. Both cuts sport the same refined quality you would expect from Jesrani, making this 12" an essential grip for anyone craving deep, sophisticated disco house.

Judge Not (Ray Mang Special mix) (8:00)
Judge Not (Ray Mang instrumental mix) (7:20)
Judge Not (Ray Mang reprise) (5:42)
Review: New York psychedelic soul/stoner disco fusionists Phenomenal Handclap Band have been rather quiet of late, with this surprise single on Toy Tonics marking the New York combo's first outing for 18 months. Curiously, there's no original version of "Judge Not" for us to assess, just three reworks from disco stalwart Ray Mang. They are, though, extremely good. The A-side "Special Remix" is particularly potent, with Mang lacing the band's breezy, gospel-influenced vocals and killer pianos solos over a lolloping West Coast disco groove. Those pianos take pride of place on the dub disco style flipside "Reprise Mix", which may well be our pick of a very strong bunch, and on the sweaty, dancefloor-ready "Instrumental" version.

Review: Fizzing all over the shop like an F1 winner's magnum, Frank Timm celebrates 20 years of Sound Stream with this outstanding slab of uncut floor jams. No messing around, just straight up disco house music. At points plain trippy ("Flash Back"), at others straight up sexy ("Love Remedy", "Get Down") but always unifying and obese in width and weight ("Disco Advisor" especially) Timm has cleared the board right here with the full range. Essential.

Flacko - "Lonely Town" (Karizma rework) (6:38)
Robert Glasper - "Enoch's House" (DJ Kemit remix) (7:03)
Guy - "Groove Me" (KZRekchampma club mix - part 1 & 2) (8:55)
Review: There's been little information released about this three-track EP, though we do known that it's the work of "a classic US label going incognito". Whatever the source, what counts is the quality of the music; happily, the EP is impeccable. Leading the charge is Karizma, whose remix of Flacko's "Lonely Town" is a breezy, soft-focus chunk of modern soul/broken house fusion smothered in hazy synthesizer chords and slowly strummed Latin guitar breakdowns. DJ Kemit dances towards peak-time floors with a wonderfully emotion-rich house version of jazz pianist Robert Glasper's "Enoch's House" built around similarly tropical drums, while KZRekchampma's glorious flipside club revision of Guy's "Groove Me" sits somewhere between bass-heavy UK house, soul-powered New Jersey garage and revivalist synth-boogie.

My Comfort Zone (4:25)
Radio Hustle (5:24)
Rainbow Song 2018 (5:03)
Grow (6:16)
Stand Up (6:27)
Review: There's plenty to set the pulse racing on this second vinyl selection of tracks from Ludovic Llorca's debut album as Art of Tones in some 13 years. "Unbalanced Part 2" begins with a touch of tactile, head-in-the-clouds jazz-funk (the deliciously deep and woozy "My Comfort Zone") and ends with a rush-inducing, gospel-fired peak-time sing-along (the brilliant "Stand Up"). In between, you'll find a loopy chunk of tech-tinged deep house hypnotism ("Grow"), a sample-heavy fusion of deep house, disco and jazz-funk (the warm and toasty "Radio Hustle"), and a hard-wired, club-ready revision of 2015 single "The Rainbow Song" that's as rubbery and bouncy as a tennis ball from Bootsy Collins' private stash.

"Meteor Man" moves into a house break flow with beautiful horn injections. Then we move into uncharted territory with the sublime "Prickly" a quirky instrumental groove that encompasses the listener while on this Astral Flight!

Ephemeral Beauty (Joey Anderson)
Mono No Aware
Down So Long
Review: Love Notes strides into 2019 with a return visit by tape_hiss, last spotted on the label with the on-point Jacob's Ladder 12" in 2017. This time around the Brooklyn-based artist is unfurling twinkling, star-gazing, techno-tinted house to spellbind all manner of dancefloors. "Ephemeral Beauty" is positively sumptuous with its many layers of melodic interplay, giving remixer Joey Anderson more than enough material to work with. Anderson's version plays to his strengths as a weaver of understated, mechanical but soulful techno, setting the scene perfectly for B side tracks "Mono No Aware" and "Down So Long" to explore further avenues of deep, emotive machine music.

Keep On Having Fun (5:30)

Review: Although Ludovic Llorca has released albums under his other production aliases (the most recent being 2017's jazz-funk set "The Garden" under his longest-running pseudonym, Llorca), "Unbalanced" marks his first full-length outing as Art of Tones - some 13 years. While it is available digitally as one expansive work, Local Talk has decided to split the vinyl version into two parts. This first volume contains six suitably warm and fuzzy tracks, most of which are gleeful dancefloor workouts that put fun and positivity front and centre. Highlights include the disco-fired "Keep On Having Fun", the Clavinet and organ-heavy stomper "Where One Is", suitably loopy "Have Fun For A Little While" and P-funk influenced "I Can" and "To The Limit". It's all up to the Frenchman's usual high standards.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Thus far 14th Level Of Paradise have done some great things with digital and vinyl releases from Vincent Inc, Dave Harman and others, but now they've scored a huge coup in getting the legendary Kerri Chandler on board with four mixes of "Harmony" that take his distinctive deep house sound into truly cosmic realms. It's a classic sound twisted up four ways, delivered with that soulful touch and addictive garage bump that Kerri defined from the get go. The "6:23 Rage Mix" is a heady brew, while "Psycho X 6:23" brings a more forthright party slant to the track. The soul is strongest on closer "6:23 Shelter Mix" as the vocal from The Temptations takes centre stage.

Review: Los Angeleno in Berlin Steve Huerta returns to homeboy Urulu's Amadeus imprint for the first time since 2016's Apache Line EP. Still very much a deep house producer, he's truly reached a new level with his sound on the new Amaso EP. From the emotive, neon-lit vibe of the enchanting title track, the lush rolling breaks of "Fake Leather Whatever" to the full throttle retro techno vibe of "Don't Be Gentle, It's A Rental" which is quite reminiscent of his other great efforts on Slow Life or Oscillat recently.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Niles Cooper had a very productive past year, and he strides into 2019 with some of his most refined productions to date. Melbourne label Kyoku is the latest outpost to carry his funky wares, and "The Juuc Miks EP" leads in with the sumptuous delights of "Strygere & Klaver," which then gets swiftly remixed into a peppy deep house jam by Joe Corti. On the B side Cooper starts flexing with some heavy samples to create a deadly heads down jam on "Joe's Gruv Juuc", before rounding the record off with the piano-lead pump of "Easy Listening Miks Juuc".

Review: Mark E turns over duties on the latest E-Versions 12" to one of his most celebrated and respected namesakes, Mr Mark Seven! Fans of the Parkway Megamix from Mark Seven should be eminently familiar with "Dial Theory (Tony's Slice)", which is where Mark E first heard it. "A lot of telephone conversations, a lot of pleading, digging, sweat and tears" later and Parkway's Mark revealed to MERC's Mark it was an attempt to recreate a live mix by Tony Humphries he heard on Kiss cutting 2 copies of the phone conversation back and forward forever. All this talking has led to the track featuring here, a serious edit from MKVII indeed! The flipside acid cut, "Case Study 9" is just as potent too!

Chief Sun Moon (6:12)
Review: Deepblak maestro Aybee is back in action on his home turf with a finely crafted selection of future-minded variations on the techno template, where rhythms shift and a cosmic sense of exploration reign supreme. "Afro Galaga" surges with a Motor City-informed pulse, but there's some signature Aybee looseness in the programming. "Escaped Drum" pushes this notion further out into broken beat territory without losing that urgent upthrust, before "Chief Sun Moon" swerves into deeper territory with a motif that wouldn't sound out of place on Livity Sound or a similar UK-rooted label.

Review: Parisian groove sculptor Hugo Lascoux returns to his spiritual stomping ground to continue where he left us on the Nick V's label launch release. Gilded instrumentation, fluttering in pace and feel but still popping with a strong kick, there's a strong US twang deep in the blend which Karizma really brings to the fore in his own Kaytronik Mo' Bounce dub. Finally fellow Paris artiste Ambrose concludes the jam with a new hazier, smoochier twist on Hugo's previous Mona slaying session "Drifting Away". Just like their parties, Mona ain't messing.

Review: London-based G Markus' credentials include productions on Soul Clap Records, Exploited, Roots For Bloom, Music For Freaks and Monologues. This will be the sixth edition of his own G-Edits series, where he serves up a familiar stateside groove that has been respectfully respliced on "Red E" - think classic Strictly Rhythm or Catch from the early '90s. On the flip, it's more of a remix on the sexy late-night trip "Cum Thru" that will give y'all a nice fix of deepness with its bouncy bassline and soulful vocals. More surefire grooves from the lesser known alias of Ben Gomori.

Review: Berlin based Brit Ewan Smith aka Youandewan follows up the inauguration of his first imprint The Brane with his second imprint called Small Hours. The inaugural release here is a great snapshot of Berlin's sound of now, with these fellow expats from both sides of the Atlantic giving their take on new wave retro-techno - formerly of a deep house state of mind. Smith teams up with Los Angeleno Steve Huerta, who is fresh off a great release on Slow Life on the spacey minimal funk of "Who R U", Galdoors main man Junes comes off sounding far less arcane than usual on the quirky blip, blurp and bleep of "Park & Ride" and Gene On Earth gets even more out there on the all analogue IDM madness of "Dr Drago".

Gargantua (Life Energy mix)
Review: Altered Moods strides into its 11th year of active service with a delectable platter of sumptuous house music presented by Jesus Gonsev. The Spanish producer has previously been spotted on deepArtSounds, Music With Content and his own Troubled Kids label. "Fuerza" is a billowing, dreamy trip loaded with heavy pads and submerged acid, leading into the gritty but soulful crunch of "Old Times." "Gargantua" is a loose-knit creation that celebrates skittering drums pinging around the anchor of the kick while wistful keys smooth the whole jam out. Life Energy taps into this feeling and runs with it on a remix of "Gargantua" that creates a more pumping backbone while amping up the romantic wooze of the melodic content too.

Review: With this four-track EP, Alex 'Omar' Smith welcomes fellow Detroiter Norm Talley back to his FXHE label for the first time since the release of his 2017 debut album "Norm-A-Lize". The quality threshold remains high throughout, from the brilliantly bass-heavy Motor City deep house futurism of EP opener "The Runner" - all booming sub, swinging machine drums and looped space synths - to the jazzy deep house bliss of closing cut "Starz". In between you'll find the similarly enjoyable, Theo Parrish-esque jazz-house drums and glassy-eyed musicality of "I'm Feelin' Hot" and the sparse dancefloor dreaminess of "Twi-Lite".

Review: Harlem NYC based 13th Hour return with more music for the witching hour on their third release, after having previously shown off great grooves by Belgian Ricky Razu, Tbilisi's Hamatsuki and local lad M. Vaughan. This time round they have decided to focus on two select talents, with the A side being taken care of by Colombia's Felipe Gordon. He takes a break from the three-piece Mercury to deliver the Jazzmatazz inspired cut "I'll Become Blue" and the dusty, emotive deepness of "The Last Time I Saw You". On the flip, things start to heat up with Australian Loure (Apparel/Slothboogie Jamz) who serves up some sexy late mood lighting on "So Dive" and vocal-led cut "Club Shade".

Review: This fine outing on Church marks the return of Rai Scott, a woman who knows a thing or two about crafting quality deep house. Despite it being three years since her last EP, Scott has lost none of her production powers. For proof, check the dreamy lo-fi wooziness of "Paradise of Crane", where deep space synthesizer chords seemingly float around a clicking deep house groove, the cinematic bliss of "Lazy Sunshine" - "Deep Burnt" for a new generation, perhaps - and the lilting, enveloping dancefloor melancholia of "Detached Observation". Also worth checking is Valentino Mora's fine remix of "Paradise of Crane", which recasts the track and a slowly shifting chunk of head-in-the-clouds deep house/dub techno fusion.
