Never Been (feat Fox) (6:04)
Codec (5:26)
Review: Manchester lynchpin Dub Phizix has already had his hand in one of this year's standout tracks in the monstrous Skeptical & Strategy collaboration "Marka" and his debut on the Critical Music imprint has him pitching up with some comparable heat. "Never Been" sees him team up with another regular on the Manchester D&B scene in Fox, and the interplay between the stripped down hyper flex and micro drum edits of the producer and the sick delivery of the vocalist has badness written all over it. Complementing this is the obese sounds of "Codec" with a huge square bass flex pressurising the simple steppah groove to the outer reaches of your attention - super fresh sounds on this one!

Moonshine (6:01)
Potshot (4:57)
Roots (feat Kinross) (5:39)
Review: Following the launch in March, LSB returns to his burgeoning Footnotes imprint with four more soulful sessions. "Space Between" lilts with a swinging jazz piano hook and cosmic vocals before kicking up a whole tonne of vibe dust, "Moonshine" hits with subtle notes of funk and a classic string and horn sample that conjures memories of 2003. For the darker side of LSB see "Potshot", a powerful nod to Marcus (RIP) with its plunging bass tones, technoid rises and precision two-step groove before "Roots" closes with a loose, dreamy hip-hop feel. Perfect.

Oh Diggity (3:44)
Love Gets Sweeter (vs The dancefloor Outlaws) (5:07)
Review: The clue's in the title... Two anonymous stitch-ups that will tear-up your floor with serious badness. "Oh Diggity" takes TC's version of Bashmore and takes it for a romantic walk down Blackstreet while "Love Gets Sweeter" busses up a bit of Mr Quaye with a sugar-sweet jungle feel that's perfect for the summer ahead. Subtle as a hammer.

You (5:18)
King Of The Beats (7:06)
Review: Dom returns to his Dubs Dungeon once again and re-opens the Dillinja crypt for two more long-coveted dubplates. "You" is fresh from 94 with subs so thick and misty they'll freeze you to your bones and breaks so sharply edited you now have pierced ears just reading this short review, this was a major missile for the AWOL massive. "King Of The Beats" is a year or two deeper into Dillinja's unmatchable discography with a killer b-boy sample, rocket fuel drums and a waspy bassline that stings from a 10 mile radius. Jungle royalty.

Remember Me (5:02)
Review: As the sun still sets on their evergreen third album How We Live Spectrasoul deliver a series of killer remixes and versions to celebrate. First up is this golden twist from Calibre. Immaculately redressed to highlight the delicate emotion and beauty of the original, it's yet another heart-stopping work of art from the singular Signature bossman. Spectrasoul themselves take care of "Say What" themselves by twisting up the swaggering halftimer into a beautiful rolling moonlit 170 jam while "Remember Me" closes the wax with its spacious plucks and barbed vocal. You won't forget this in a hurry.

Review: Following the likes of FD, Redeyes and label boss Lenzman himself, Submorphics is the latest to step up to The North Quarter hot seat with his own take on soulful drum & bass. Expressing his widest range and the warmest shades of his palette, the San Francisco vibe flexor delivers his finest; the yearning gutsy soul of "Don't Be So Cold", the heads-down sultry ripples of "Whatchudo", the swaggering hip-hop swing of "Hot Ish", the whirling almost psychedelic textures to the organs and Steo's stunning vocals on "Weather It Out" and the all-out soul belts of "Can't Get Over You". Five slices of genuine soulful drum & bass gold; Lenzman knows what he's up to with The Norther Quarter.

Superior Selectionz & Ben Soundscape - "Justa" (5:37)
Roygreen & Protone & Ben Soundscape - "Ruffneck" (5:39)
Luch & Joakuim - "Lifespan" (5:41)
Review: Since 2003, the Intrigue crew has been providing Bristol clubbers with regular doses of liquid funk and musically expansive drum and bass, first at their regular parties and, since 2008, on their offshoot label. Predictably, there's much to enjoy on this celebratory 12". Old pal Break steps up first with a veritable warm summer breeze of a roller, "Mind's Eye" - all punchy, snare-heavy beats, acoustic guitars, rumbling bass and dreamy freestyle vocals - before Superior Selectionz and Ben Soundscape join forces for the slightly more weighty but no less attractive "Justa". Over on side B, Soundscape returns to action alongside Ryogreen and Protone on the wobble bass-propelled stepper "Ruffneck", while Lurch - a lesser-known stalwart of the Bristol scene - delivers some delicious, Afro-tinged liquid funk alongside Joakuim. Rock solid.

Digital - "Motherland" (4:47)
Digital & Response - "Silver Lining" (Seba remix) (6:03)
Digital & Villem - "Lost Civilisation" (6:01)
Review: Heaviness klaxon: Digital is unleashing his fifth album right now and it's one of his best bodies of work in his 22 year production history. The tone is set by the currently unavoidable "Motherland". Smashed by the likes of Storm for well over a year now, its vocal charm and beat weight are so well balanced you'll never want the track to finish. Elsewhere Seba applies his own stripped back charm on the mystic "Silver Lining" while Villem taps in for an Aztec odyssey. Ridiculously on-point. And there's more to come.

Etherall (6:21)
Always (5:58)
Review: Few producer / vocalist partnerships in drum & bass have been as enduring or iconic as Seba and Robert Manos. Even though they both work autonomously with other artists, you can really feel it when they work together. Mystical, moving, soulful but heavier than lead boots, it's been this way since 2005's "Make Peace" and their work keeps getting better; "Etherall" is a hurricane break-based piece with fluttering pianos and dynamic breakaways that let Robert and his earnest, heart breaking lyrics shine through while "Always" shakes with more of a jazzy, cosmic energy where Manos's vocals provide just as much texture as they do soul. Timeless.

Gone Too Soon (Sully remix) (6:30)
Limit Of Paradise (Falty DL remix) (5:37)
Review: Sneaker Social Club are not messing around! Following their previous outings from the legendary trio 2 Bad Mice comes remixes from two impeccably forward thinking break crafters; Sully takes "Gone Too Soon" into some fantastical places as the breaks scream jungle but the big breeze pads scream Alex Reece but both elements work together emotively. Falty DL, meanwhile, gives us a hardcore schooling on "Limit Of Paradise" with its heavily layered breaks, wall of sound pads and dynamic drops into spacious hooks. Bad to the (clear vinyl) bone!

Time Will Tell (6:29)
Why Can't This End (5:58)
Review: Now into his third decade as a full-time drum and bass producer, Seba continues to serve up high quality EPs at a furious rate. "Close To You" is the Swede's fifth 12" of 2018, yet it's every bit as alluring and essential as any of its predecessors. We're particularly enjoying the colourful, soulful flutter of the rhythmically punchy title track, though opener "She Looks Real" - a more foreboding, warehouse-friendly workout - and "Time Will Tell" are almost as good. Arguably best of all, though, is "Why Can't This End", where a poignant, heartfelt vocal from what sounds like house legend Robert Owens majestically rises above deep, spacey melodies and rolling drum and bass rhythms.

Hold On (7:08)
The Vortex (8:37)
Review: Paradox dons his arctic guise for the second time this year with two more glacial jungle adventures. Following "Venera" and "Criterion" come "Hold On" and "The Vortex". The former is an enchanting vocal cut that wafts with far-away charm over some classically springy breaks while the latter takes us down a darker path with crushing breaks that get coated with layer upon layer of atmospheres, arpeggios and pads. Wrap up warm.

Lift You Up (feat Steo) (5:13)
Back To You (6:01)
Review: The second instalment of New Zealander Tokyo Prose's surprise album drop on Lenzman's The North Quarter; once again it's another sublime, dynamic soul out whittled down to perfection. The long demanded dub "Brilliant Corners" takes the lead with some stunningly arranged and cascading ivories while "Runaway" takes us deeper into the spacier corners of Tokyo Prose's palette with faraway vocals from KSR. Flip for the biggest vocal cut on the 12" as Steo brings his signature honeyed dulcet soul with an almost gospel level of urgency on "Lift You Up" before "Back To You" closes with more of TP's distinctive fluttering piano work. Gracefully does it.

Apex - "Echoes" (5:16)
Unknown Error - "The Yearning" (Super VIP mix) (9:24)
Review: It's been seven months now since the death of Rob Dickeson AKA Apex stunned the drum and bass community. "Echoes" is the last known track that Dickeson completed and is being released by Hospital Records in order to raise funds for Help Musicians UK's Music Minds Matter campaign. It's rather good, too, with poignant pianos, stirring strings and melancholic chords floating over a snappy, liquid funk beat. It's accompanied on the flipside by a fantastic, floor-friendly "Super VIP" mix of "Yearning", a soaring 2006 cut Dickeson produced alongside Jim Gash as Unknown Error. Top tracks and a worthy cause: this should be an essential purchase for D&B heads everywhere.
