Dead Wait EP (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: PAR 003. Rel: 05 Jun 19
  1. Squid Girls (5:02)
  2. Dead Wait (6:35)
  3. Spice Raiders (5:19)
  4. Scabs (5:35)
Review: Par Avion collective member Agrippa returns with his first full release since last year's "Mygraine Urgraine". Once again getting playful with his titles, once again covering some vast and unforgiving terrains, each of the four cuts takes you to a different corner; "Squid Girls" is an aquatic bashy piece with its techno tendrils lashing wildly, "Dead Wait" is pure crushed stomps with a crunchy warehouse vibe while "Spice Raiders" takes us deep into techno territory; loopy, paranoid and laced with unnerving sound designs before "Scabs" brings us to a fractured close as the 'hot pick' of the EP (not sorry). Time to get Agrippa yourselves...

SNKR 020 (12")
Cat: SNKR 020. Rel: 11 Jun 19
  1. Don't Wanna Know (3:10)
  2. Predator Vs Prey (Toxin) (4:12)
  3. Photosynthesis (feat Tranq Sinatra) (3:19)
Review: Etch and Nico Lindsay make good musical bedfellows; the former's spacious left-footed soundscapes providing plenty of room for Nico's narrative, evolving lyrical style, they're kindred spirits linked by a glacial sense of adventure and refusal to compromise. Opener "Don't Wanna Know" kicks the doors down with force. Rough and switchy, there's a pulsing 2002 feel to both the step and flow while "Predator Vs Prey (Toxin)" takes us on a much swampier, weirded out trip that buns everything but survival. Finally, Tranq Sinatra joins the fray for an urgent finale where fast-tongue tales from Nico are backed from Tranq harmonies and another iced riddim from Etch. Cold.

  1. Ritual Angel (3:48)
  2. No Fear (feat David Osterle) (4:11)

  9. Reset (feat Sophie Lindinger) (5:04)
  10. Pontinatx (4:55)
  11. Hope Dies Last (4:53)
Review: Russian-Austrian by roots, Scottish by upbringing, RBMA alumni and multi-instrumentalist Motsa levels up with this extraordinary debut album. An 11 track opus delivered over two heavyweight 12"s, "Perspectives" spans his full breadth from dark broken bass ("Ritual Angel") to uncut euphoria ("Hyperreality") via urgent, panic-mode breaks laced with mournful harmonies ("World War III") and all types of emotional and complex shades between. From total uplift to grave melancholy, if you've so much as sniffed at an Apparat, Trentemoller, James Zabiela or Nathan Fake record then you'll be all over this. Exceptional.

Dioxide (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: DEXT 012. Rel: 11 Jun 19
  1. Dioxide (5:07)
  2. Tuskanary (5:24)
  3. Dioxide (Bruce Carbon Reduction) (5:41)
  4. Theia (3:27)
Review: More fine fare from Bristolian bass-head Otik, a producer last seen serving up a spacey chunk of percussively intense headiness on Intergraded's multi-artist "Orbitration". Our pick of a very strong bunch is "Dioxide", a pleasingly spaced-out post-dubstep exercise in sparse but weighty drums, alien electronic melodies and out-there aural textures. The obligatory rework can be found on side B, where the "Bruce Carbon Reduction" offers a skittish and fizzing dancefloor interpretation. Elsewhere, "Theia" is a crackling, slowly unfurling slice of yearning ambient bliss, while "Tuskanary" sees Otik pepper a drunken rhythm track with wonky modular motifs.

SWF 001 (hand-stamped 10")
Cat: SWF 001. Rel: 11 Jun 19
  1. Basstone (Scratcha DVA Soul Destroy mix) (4:03)
  2. Singlewhitefemale - "Dub" (3:34)
  3. Singlewhitefemale - "Secret Garden" (1:17)
Review: Oh gosh. Scratcha's up to his old head-spinning tricks again on this super limited 10" white label. His remix of "Basstone" takes the lead. A cult 1994 Louie Vega classic, DVA's twist is unlike anything you've ever heard; all sirens and frequencies and bashy clattering beats over uplifting chords, it's both overwhelmingly heavy and absurdly soulful in equal measures and it will totally melt brains this festival season. Comes complete with two deep and fractured perspectives from the mysterious/anonymous/perhaps-new-alias Singlewhitefemale; the shadowy fractured "Dub" and the woozy dreamweaver "Secret Garden". All stunning... Grab this while you can.

Syndicate (double 12")
Cat: SENLP 001. Rel: 11 Jun 19
  1. Truth - "Simulation Theory" (4:39)
  2. Caspa - "Anyone Else" (3:19)
  3. Bukez Finezt - "Benz" (5:09)
  4. Onhell - "Sun Ra" (3:30)
Review: One of the most prominent and on-point dubstep labels to emerge in recent years, Youngsta's Sentry hits new peaks with their first V/A album. The full set will include the likes of Argo, Taso, Sukh Knight, Mr K, LSN, Nomine, Opus and many more contemporary low end visionaries. And it kicks off right here with a truly international collective; Truth, Caspa, Bukez Finezt, Onhell. From New Zealand to Cali via Germany and UK, all vibes are explored here... Cosmic swagger on Truth's "Simulation Theory", paranoid gravity-defying deepness on Caspa's "Anyone Else" and proper Mozart-flavoured 808 mischief from Bukez Finezt. Onhell brings this remarkable syndication to a close with the wavey, poignant "Sun Ra". Bring on the whole album.
