Deep House
  1. Mosquito
  2. Transit
  3. The Pagan Groove Of San Francisco
  4. The Way (Of The Dub)
Review: Vester Koza is a fresh talent based in London, but his smooth, hypnotic brand of house sounds like it's come straight out of Berlin. "Mosquito" is a dubby basement jam whose nuanced production packs imperceptibly subtle percussive click into its warm chord arrangement, while "Transit" comes across as a slightly more motorik jam, with the kind of cavernous snares and tense chords Kassem Mosse would deploy in one of his darker Workshop releases, accented with lighter melodic chimes. Turn over for "the Pagan Groove of San Francisco", whose lively, funky groove is underpinned with a heaviness that puts it almost into dub techno territory, counterbalanced by "The Way (Of The Dub)", a masterful exercise in warm, unfolding deep house. On the strength of this release, Koza is one to keep an eye on.

Deep House
  1. Out Of The Blue
  2. Beauty
  3. Far Away Dub
Review: Despite brandishing a name that sounds more at home in Berlin, Vester Koza is an East London based producer who made an auspicious self titled and self released debut earlier this year, charming the ears of considered selectors such as Jane Fitz, Ben UFO and Madteo and garnering comparisons with Messrs Mosse and Vincent. As such, Koza's next release is something akin to 'hotly anticipated' and the Out Of The Blue EP is a further compelling demonstration of his beguiling style, originating from the same pool of demos that Koza's debut EP was formed of. Out Of The Blue fizzes into action with the deep cut, finely measured title track which pairs spacious kicks with dubby chord swellings similar to XDB's output and a similar approach runs through "Beauty" though the execution is decidedly swampier with the rhythmic elements barely escaping the crusty low end.

Maslo 03 (12")
Cat: MAS 03. Rel: 04 Nov 13
Deep House
  1. Track 1
  2. Track 2
Review: Emerging earlier this year, the London-based Vester Koza has demonstrated a level of measure and refinement in his production that goes beyond auspicious. Releasing via his own Maslo label, Koza's recorded output evokes a similar otherwordly sensory response to the work of East Coast producers Joey Anderson and DJ Qu, and it's not surprising to see the likes of Jane Fitz, Bill Kouligas and Ben UFO gravitate towards his releases. This is the third and final 12" of 2013 from Vester Koza and the two tracks demonstrate a notable level of production maturity. Space is the prevailing sensation on "track 1" where swirling mists of spectral organs are gently pushed in circles by finely poised drum arrangements. This is not evident on the accompanying untitled production where a sense of immersive claustrophobia clouds proceedings.

  3. OPT_iCAL_IN (6:58)
  4. Bind_Dream_Service (6:46)
Review: Vester Koza has remained quiet as of late but he's back with his singular brand of deep house on his own Maslo imprint. While his previous 12"s were coated in a relatively upbeat and funked-out flavour, the PRISN EP feels darker, more expansive and ethereal, where Koza prefers the use of drones and abstract electronics as a base for his grooves. "Deciveid", for example, takes a broken, hypnotic beat and places it over subtle twists of noise, whereas "Bind_Dream_Service" is slow, jagged and lacking of a 4/4 beat...it's Vester Koza's industrial side coming out to play.

  4. ZRTP [P-Bass_Special] (3:46)
Review: London-based Vester Koza makes the move from Maslo to Houndstooth. It's a shred signing by the Fabric-backed label, as "OT_R~cord" shows. Fusing glitchy elements with early 90s Warp melodies, it's a twitchy but entertaining affair. "Robocow Exe" is cut from the same glitchy, low-tempo sources, although on this occasion, it feels like Koza is drawing on jazz influences. "Served_On_Barm" sees the upcoming producer create a mysterious dub odyssey, where eerie textures flow and ebb, while closing out this release is the understated, reflective minimalism of "Zrtp (P-Bass Special)", which sounds like Akufen on downers.
