Review: Highly limited and sonically stunning, this special 7" taken from Gabriel's Raggabass Resistance album, neither of these versions have seen the light of day before. And, according to the label, they're not likely to see it after this limited press. Gabriel's own version is authentic dub to the very core: rich organic instrumentation, a huge spacious bass and full emphasis on the groove. Dim Mak's Ming and Lee Perry's own Subatomic Sound System provide the contemporary version; squidgy, squelchy and full of surprises, it's a neat reminder of dubstep's innate funkiness. We're luvin' it!

Review: Love Trio in Dub featuring U-Roy is all at once a return to the best times of reggae and dub while a window into the future of the genres. U-Roy sounds like the legend and originator that he indeed is. Mixed with the Nublu regulars/downtown-tronica guys Love Trio he comes across as never before. This collaboration between U-Roy and Love Trio is for sure a record for the collectors of dub and reggae of the past as well as fans of Thievery Corporation and Herbert. The best news is that these players are the bomb when it comes to playing live. Ilhan Ersahin, Jesse Murphy and Kenny Wollesen have already performed in Brazil, Istanbul and NYC as Love Trio as well as individual sidemen to Tom Waits, Bill Frisell, Eddie Henderson, Erik Truffaz, John Zorn...Ilhan is the man behind the band Wax Poetic and Jesse is also the bass man for Brazilian Girls. Montreal native, Deadbeat, contributes a stunning remix of "Lovers Rock" to the vinyl, demonstrating his powers in minimal dub and bass. DJ Cil 's mix of "Flight In Dub" is an organic banger with rolling bass lines that build the track into the stars.

Review: Charles Strite might have invented the toaster, but it was U Roy who invented toasting. The first ever album from reggae legend U Roy aka. Ewart Beckford - three years before his self-titled debut-debut - Version Galore first appeared on Treasure Isle, and was a gleaming cornucopia of all the rocksteady singles he'd been releasing and performing since at least 1969. The album is emblematic of Beckford's distinctive rap-singing over the beat, known as 'toasting', a hallmark of all reggae-adjacent sounds to this day.

He made an indelible mark on the Jamaican scene as soon as he arrived on it in the1970s and his signature vocal style soon became what is now known as "toasting." Review: You don't get dubbed The Originator for nothing: U Roy was a real reggae pioneer almost from the moment he burst onto the Jamaican scene in the early 19070s. He was an early pioneer in the vocal style known as toasting, which also had an influence on the earliest days of ra across the water in America. His fourth full length album Natty Rebel has not been in print for 30 years but now the 11 bouncy cuts produced by Tony Robison are back on wax once more. Next tot he reggae rollers are some special disco-tinged grooves such as 'Have Mercy' and 'Go There Natty' to make this all the more essential.
