Cat: POLEGROUP 029. Rel: 06 Jan 15
Techno
  1. Claudio Prc - "Atik"
  2. Woo York - "Farewell Old Friend"
  3. Christian Wunsch - "Beta V 0 5"
  4. Tripeo - "Zebog"
Review: To complement the release of the second edition of Unknown Landscapes, Polegroup once again compile four of the previously unreleased contributions for a must have 12" sampler. With Christian Wunsch at the controls, the mix itself is of course a must have for anyone who classes themselves a fan of modern techno. Equally any techno selectors out there that prefer the vinyl format will want to indulge in the four productions here from Woo York, Tripeo, Claudio PRC and Wunsch himself. Claudio PRC opens proceedings with the stripped back and spacious warehouse boom of "Atik" which contrasts nicely with the brighter tones of "Farewell Old Friend" from Woo York. "Beta 0.5" from Wunsch is scratchy, atmospheric techno at its best and Darko Esser is on fine form with the heavenly acid flutter of Tripeo cut "Zebog".

Ben Sims pres Tribology Sampler 4 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MachineSampler 004. Rel: 10 Dec 18
Techno
  1. Function - "Introversion" (4:46)
  2. Tripeo - "Sequoia" (6:17)
  3. Truncate - "Rings" (5:23)
  4. Blasha & Allatt - "Broughton 93" (6:04)
Review: The fourth sampler from Ben Sims' mammoth Tribology mix features another four of the must-have exclusives from this crucial document of contemporary techno. Function leads the way with "Introversion", a spooky and sleekly designed deep driver marked out by thin slithers of displaced vocal. Tripeo plays the opposite tact with a bright and bold synth hook front and centre of the mix on "Sequoia", and then Truncate trickles down a pattering array of drum machine rhythms and fluttering melodic chimes on the stunning "Rings." Blasha & Allatt bring the tough stuff to the B2 with the jacked up energy of "Broughton 93" - their debut appearance no less and a very strong one at that.

Techno
  1. Track 1
  2. Track 2
Review: Having found his way into the bags of Ben Sims, Norman Nodge and Rolando among others with his first release, Tripeo returns with a second 12" of heavily textured, hypnotic and puristic techno. An alter ego of Holland-based producer Darko Esser, Tripeo eschews the eclecticism of his other project Onionboy for "niches and purism". This is clearly evident on the A-side, where a functional kick drum combines with diamond-like hi-hats and a lone glassy synth to create a purist techno experience that borders on the psychedelic. The B-side is even more sparing but no less striking, with a broken techno rhythm that is interrupted by a trippy mosaic of morphing synths on a 90s tip.

Food For Thought (HVL mix) (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BAS 007. Rel: 28 Jan 19
Techno
  1. Food For Thought
  2. Resist
  3. Tuesday Blues
  4. Tuesday Blues (HVL Wreckage)
Review: We have some 'Food for Thought' for you. On BAS007 Tripeo experiments with a diverse spectrum of motives. Three tracks, striking different cords with the inclined listener and an addition with Georgian flavor. Title track 'Food For Thought' starts off as a classically orchestrated techno track. With 'Resist' we dive into an electro-driven sketch and a bass line, lurking behind melodic corners. But it's the B side where Tripeo's wit unfolds: 'Tuesday Blues' comes along as a reminder to embrace joy on the worst day the of the week after a weekend to remember. Our very own HVL turns the track into a rolling and tripping beauty on B2
