Ammo 2

Disco/Nu-Disco
Track 1 (5:00)
Track 2 (5:21)
Track 3 (5:42)
Track 4 (4:58)
Review: Four raw as you like tracks of floor filling sounds that fuse disco, funk, house and synth pop into rugged and irresistible grooves. 'Track 1' is all echoing vocals and steamy synth lines over big drums. 'Track 2' has a more funky feel with plenty of jittery Chicago house drums and 'Track 3' then gets a little more spaced out and tropical. 'Track 4' closes with a dense analogue party vibe.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks on the record, otherwise in perfect working condition ***

During the heady days of the 2000s and early 20-teens, Sheffield scalpel fiend The Popular People's Front offered up a string of essential re-edit EPs. He's been rather quiet of late though, with this collection of fresh dancefloor "Ammo" marking the Steel City producer's first outing for four years. He opens by applying his touch to a lolloping disco classic (you'll know it when you hear it) before offering up an on-point revision of YMO's "Computer Games" that first surfaced - without being released - back in the 2000s. Over on side B the Sheffield veteran adds a vintage (we think) Elektrons acapella to a dubbed-out, low-slung disco workout (track three), and then goes all weird, electronic and forthright on the bonkers-but-brilliant closing edit.

Review: The mysterious PPF crew strike again! Four absolute floor gems with no expense spared, the A-side runs amok with big supersized beats and just the right amount of sleaze dripping off every funky note. The lead track goes all wig-out and full on with the organs while a cracking slowed-down take on Alphonse Mouzon brings up the rear. Flip for a fizzy twist on the Crown Heights Affair before the finale pings us between heaven and earth with an almighty reboost of First Choice's "Doctor Love". Prescribe as soon as you can... This won't stay on the shelves for long.

Review: Amongst the many things we're excited about in the coming months is Stealing Is Believing, the debut album from Popular People's Front. Made up of Sheffield legend Chris Duckenfield, the esteemed Leo Zero and DJ History decision maker Bill Brewster, Popular People's Front represent an enviable collective fountain of musical knowledge. We've been reliably informed the album is done, and they drop this vinyl sampler to give you a sweet taste of what to expect .Wrapped in suitably resplendent cover design from Leo Zero, the four tracks here naturally demonstrate a keen knowledge of disco, boogie, proto electro and Italo influenced Detroit house. In a word, essential.

Abah Dabah Dis
Cheryl Lynn - "Saved My Day" (Everlasting Chorus edit)
Party Over Here
Review: We fully expect this third Popular People's Front Edit 12 inch to swiftly follow the previous editions into the realm of "sold out and only available for ridiculous amounts on Discogs". Rightly so too, as the third volume is the best one yet and worth buying for the A Side alone! "Abah Dabah Dis" is a marvellously drunken disco throbber, replete with heavily phased horn arrangements and over dubbed Eastern vocals. The ever present acid bassline guarantees smiling faces and encourages hip movement. The B Side is equally as good though, commencing with an Everlasting Chorus Edit of Cheryl Lynn's all too rare "You Saved My Day" which expands the vocal refrain and rearranges the song progression to take advantage of the infectious hand clap rhythm section. Heavily dubbed vocoder reverberates out over the vintage outer galactic p-funk groove of "Party Over Here", the final track on another superlative and varied selection of edits from the PPF camp.
