X-Rated
Review: The Organ Grinder mints his new record label with a bulked up reissue of a gem from his back catalogue that will make DJs - and dancers - very happy. Far from throwaway, this is music rooted in the '90s US garage sound of Kerri Chandler, Masters at Work and early Todd Edwards, with the intensity of true deep house and the light rhythmic touch of UKG. 'Obsession' originally came out almost 5 years ago, but there's simplicity in its skittering rhythm and a mantra of rising minor-note synth hits that keep it burning into the dancefloor. 'X Rated' hits like its inverted counterpart, with a more heavily weighted drum groove and garage stabs that spiral down your spine. 'Physicality' opens the EP with cunningly-sampled soul music, sung notes of passion belted out over a tense background of keys and Rhodes chords, weaving an atmosphere that only comes out of expertly woven harmony.

Review: The third release for Let's Play House offshoot, Room Service, is another fully-loaded four-tracker, a live grenade to be launched at dancefloors around the world. The originals here are by the Organ Grinder, the Welsh producer known for his hefty house bangers for labels like 4 Lux, Heist, and, recently, LPH itself (he remixed Jacques Renault's "The Fake Out" last year).

Living In A Bottle (7:37)
Taurus (6:58)
To Digi (6:13)
Review: For the latest slice of magic on the evermore impressive Fina White, The Organ Grinder, aka
Cayne Ramos, continues with a prolific run of releases which has planted his expansive productions straight in the bags of discerning club commanders like Move D, Brawther, and
Laurent Garnier. Showcasing a broad, tasteful musical pallet, studied studio skills, and a sharp ear in the mix, The Daily Struggles EP is a fine arrangement of house and techno that will find itself at home on the uncompromising warehouse floors, the sun-drenched courtyards, and in the darker, seedier moments of the night, when only the strong remain, and the weak have long since departed.

Wasting no time, the Organ Grinder leads the line with Living in a Bottle, a classic house number on an MCDE tip, laced with infectious vocal samples, muffled Rhodesian keys and groovy, beddeddown bass lines, conducted by a tight back line of crisp, snappy, dusty drum parts.

On the flip side The Organ Grinder moves from the barbecue to the main room with some Berghain sized techno on B1. Taurus is for those who love those big, pulsating kicks, clattering hi hats and deep, penetrating bass notes that work so well in Spartan warehouses at 3am.

Moving the clock along to 7am and relocating to the beach on B2 with Too Digi The Organ Grinder brings the Daily Struggles EP to a head with perhaps the strongest track of the release - a proper cut of deep, tripped out Herbert-esque grooves and vintage keys revolving around an infectious, warped disco vocal. The sort of stuff jocks like Move D and Zip deploy to such devastating effect in the after hours.

Order In The House
Review: Cardiff producer The Organ Grinder returns to Gerd's 4Lux imprint with the forthright house business of The Dancing Angel EP. The sense of 90s house revivalism that's permeated much of Cayne Ramos' 12" output since his adoption of The Organ Grinder mantle is still very much in evidence on the four tracks here, yet what sets his productions apart is the level of detail and unwillingness to settle into a simple groove. The Dancing Angel EP has these full bodied productions in abundance; in full flight, both the Chesus featuring lead track "Steam Roller" and final track "Order In The House" sound like the sort of Ibiza pumper Bashmore should be making, yet the subtle way that the energy levels are adjusted ensures you're not battered into submission. "Deep Undercover" is The Organ Grinder in soulful mood whilst "The Driver" feels like the kind of funky house that kids in the late 90s heard on pirates.

The Organ Grinder - "Changes All The Time" (Detroit Swindle remix)
Detroit Swindle - "The Break Up" (Max Graef remix)
Nachtbraker - "Bluebottle" (Frits Wentink remix)
Max Graef & Andy Hart - "Jungle" (Nachtbraker remix)
Frits Wentink - "Schrewd" (The Organ Grinder remix)
Review: This deluxe 12" and 10" package is the first in what Detroit Swindle promise will be an annual occurrence - a "family remix EP", where members of the Heist Recordings roster rework label releases from the previous 12 months. It's a neat idea, and one that's undoubtedly resulted in some killer material. The Organ Grinder's surging, heavily percussive rework of Frits Wentik's "Schrewd" is particularly heavy, though it is Max Graef's loose, soulful, groovy and sample-heavy reinterpretation of Detroit Swindle's "The Break Up" is probably the standout. That said, there's plenty to cheer elsewhere, not least Nachtbraker's cowbell-laden, acid house-meets-nu-disco version of Max Graef and Andy Hart's "Jungle".

Spanner In The Works (Alden Tyrell & Gerd remix)
Spanner In The Works (original)
Spanner In The Works (Nicholas remix)
Review: Gerd's 4lux label returns with what must be one of its darkest releases to date in the form of "Spanner In The Works", UK producer The Organ Grinder's collaboration with Le Horn. Pairing the rhythmic framework of house with sinister bass music low end, its the kind of thing destined to cause chaos when deployed at peak time. Nicholas's remix takes things into only slightly deeper territory, opting not to tinker with the forula too much, while Alden Tyrell and Gerd's reconstruction adds all manner of mechanoid flavour to proceedings. Highly recommended for fans of Joy O and Boddika's similarly weighty Sunklo records.
