Review: Originally released in 2013 and celebrating its ten-year anniversary just a little late, Bloodsports was the sixth full-length and much needed return to form from London's glam-centric alt-rock staple Suede. Arriving more than a full decade after 2002's A New Morning, the LP marked the longest gap between projects from the group as issues stemming from addiction as well as the commercial underperformance of the aforementioned album led to a seven-year hiatus. Reuniting with longtime producer Ed Buller, for the first time since 1996's Coming Up, while re-enlisting former keyboardist Neil Codling who originally departed in 2001, the end result would be not only their most acclaimed work since their last outing with Buller but rejuvenate the Suede camp entirely, as we've since been treated to three more subsequent LPs, with the most recent, criminally underrated Autofiction lading in 2022.

Review: Hyped at the time as 'the Suede record Brett Anderson raps on' - in fact, it's more of a spoken word monologue - 'Stay Together' followed the Britpop instigators' hugely successful Dog Man Star debut album and pointed the way forward for future experimentation away from their core Bowie/glam flash rock. It remains their highest charting single having peaked at number three in the UK charts (an honour it shares with 'Trash') and here, part of Demon's Suede singles reissue campaign, comes backed another non album track 'The Living Dead'.

Autofiction is certainly a triumphant return for the mighty Suede, one of the most iconic of all UK indie bands who helped nurture the Britpop movement out of nappies and into big boy pants, and big boy record deals, during the early-1990s. Whether this is exactly the rebirth into a punk outfit some corners of the press would have you believe is another question.

Ultimately, LP number nine definitely feels like a change of tact, with Brett Anderson's voice taking on a new, grizzlier sound (albeit at times still erupting into the siren-esque tones we fell head over heels for first time round). On the whole, it would be far more accurate simply to label this outing as tougher, rawer and much less affected than the stuff we've had in the past.

Review: As part of a comprehensive reissue of Suede's early singles and albums - the songs which earned them the early 90s limelight - comes this reissued 7" picture-disc version of 'So Young' and 'High Rising'. Both featuring on the self-titled debut from 1993, these were but two of the tracks that contributed to Suede's rise to stardom, and which help to cement their impressive selling of 100,000 copies in their first week. Foreboding a full, newly-mastered edition of the album, these two throwbacks are a reminder of what makes a band great in its early incarnation.

Review: Suede first released Sci-Fi lullabies 25 years ago. This special 25th Anniversary Edition comes on 180 grams of nice clear wax and stands as the band's definitive collection of vital B-sides. As many music lovers know, white often the flip side jams are the best on any record, even if you don't know it at first . As well as the b-side besties and fan favourites like 'Suede', 'Dog Man Star' and 'Coming Up' are 'Europe Is Our Playground', 'My Insatiable One', and 'Killing Of A Flashboy' amongst others.

One of the undisputed artistic peaks of the Britpop movement, it was famously recorded after internal struggles led to the departure of one of the band's driving forces, guitarist Bernard Butler. Yet listening to the album, you'd never know. Brett Anderson's vocal performances are impeccable, while the music - swooping, impactful and infectious - is amongst the best the band ever recorded. This anniversary edition expands the album via a second disc of B-sides from the period, while the deluxe, hardback book style packaging also includes a rather nice booklet full of band photos and full lyrics.

Review: In terms of landmark releases, you'd be hard pushed to find anyone that doesn't rank Suede's third as a seminal moment in their career. And that's not to say the departure of guitarist Bernard Butler somehow set them free, more to point out this record saw the band reach the heights of critical and commercial success, while also confirming they had definitely found their sound.

It's an album with smash hit singles and iconic tunes like 'Beautiful Ones', 'Filmstar', and 'Trash', all of which are still etched into the memory of anyone who was listening to any radio station back in 1996. But there's much depth here too, with a playlist that offers you nothing but the highest quality British alternative indie rock 'n' roll - passionate, camp, playful, tough and infinitely catchy.
