Review: DJ KOCO AKA Shimokita and Southpaw Chop join forces once more for a tidy new vinyl only 7" under their Funky Soul Brother alias for Southpaw Chop's eponymous label. 'Kiwami' is a raw funk tune with razor sharp hi hats over spy theme-like 60s synths and bi claps. It's brilliantly retro and filled with dance floor drama. On the reverse, Southpaw Chop goes it alone for 'Chocolate Sunday' which his a more deep cut and languid tune that lazes on drawn out funk riffs and cosmic synth explosions.

Review: Over the last decade, Hideo Sasaki has gained a reputation for being one of Japan's premier turntablists and beat-makers, consistently offering up now hard-to-find seven-inch singles that combine "golden era"-influenced backing tracks with raps from some seriously good - and in some cases well-known - MCs. The Far East Quality EP acts as a showcase for the producer's work, gathering together previously seven-inch only tracks and unheard remixes. It's universally excellent, though our highlights include the bustling, string-drenched excellence of 'No Love Lost' featuring Diamond D, the boom-bap brilliance of Large Professor hook-up 'Jewel of the Day', and both versions of 'Laced With Tragedy', Sasaki's collaboration with Tragedy Khadafi.

Review: Japanese hip-hop crew Southpaw Chop keep themselves busy with this new single "How It's Done". For this release they bring two big guests to the table: Kool G Rap and Craig G from Juice Crew. Their previous work "Finger Prints On The Record" (feat. A.G. of DITC) was originally only released in Japan, but made its way further abroad gaining great attention from hip hop fans in the US and Europe. This reunion with the Juice Crew builds and brings chemistry, pushing boundaries and sharp rhymes from the two. Things get even better when matched with Southpaw Chop's signature horn sounds and for those who love Cold Chillin', the label design must be mouth watering. This 7" will send ripples through the 2016 hip hop scene - it's a must buy!

Review: Southpaw Chop is old school: he's a hip-hop DJ who plays on vinyl and samples straight from original wax. Large Professor, A.G, Kool G Rap and Craig G have all come calling for his production chops and this is another in his series of collars with legends. Queens heavyweight Tragedy Khadafi is up this time, rhyming over hard hitting boom bap, with plenty of scratching, chest beating and celebratory stabs and raw street funk. The instrumental on the flip give more room to the super studio sounds of Southpaw Chop.
