Ollie Rant - "Uptown" (4:28)
Wilfy D - "Good Day" (6:29)
Review: Increasingly vital garage label Time Is Now keeps on kicking with this superb various artist six tracker. It recalls close associates like Holloway and Interplanetary Criminal as wells enlisting new names. All shades and sodas are covered here with face mangling jams like 'Mercy' covering the darker end of the spectrum and more sweet and fluid jams like 'Uptown' from Ollie Rant bringing plenty of soul, and a healthy dose of sax. Vocal pumpers from Soul Mass Transit and dubbed out minimalism from Holloway complete this most crucial of cuts.

Nobody Else But U (6:14)
Break Ur Heart (5:20)
Cookin Up Yer Brain (5:20)
Stand By Me (4:08)
Review: Soul Mass Transit System keeps up the pressure in the realm of devout nu-skool UK garage with another four-strong drop for Timeisnow. 'Nobody Else But U' is a boisterous 4x4 slammer with a strong diva streak and a bassline to level the dance, while 'Break Ur Heart' has fun sampling St Etienne and slinging an evergreen vocal hook into a womping peak time belter. 'Cookin Up Yer Brain' gets the nimble organ chords out and goes in hard on the 2-step for a pitch-perfect demonstration of everything that makes garage such en enduring sound. 'Stand By Me' nudges the pitch fader up and barrels into jungle territory with some brilliantly diced up breaks while maintaining that soulful vocal strain which comes as standard with Soul Mass missives.

Poison Dart (4:38)
Bad (4:46)
Review: Oi oi, Instinct is back with more gun finger touting, bass-face pulling garage goodness. This one from Soul Mass transit System click off with a dark groove and shuffling drums run through with plenty of old school signifiers. 'Poison Dart' is another one with marvelous scratchy drums and snares powering it feared as withering sonics, rude boy bass and hints of female vocal all get you marching along. 'Bad' closes out with wobbly bass and crisp hits. It's a more swinging groove with extra room for the sounds to hit that bit harder. Killer tackle.

Murderation (4 The Bristol Crew mix) (7:48)
95 Selection (4:38)
Gonna Be Alright (5:43)
Listen (5:31)
Review: Soul Mass Transit System is a UK garage duo, real names known only as Sam and Tom. 'The Big Speedy G One' is exactly what it says on the outer packaging; a big speedy speed garage quadruple selector, perfect for taking a certain eponymous drug to, of course. The EP is inspired by the pair's love for Bristol's music scene, evidently drawing on their own experiences of living in the city and the nascent revivalism for such genres as garage and jungle there that has seen to their rise. The tunes move between colossal and rave-sirenny, to clippy and soulful, with '95 Selection' recalling the love-bugged soul of Ramsay & Fen.

Need Someone (7:30)
Hold U Tight (6:00)
Fever (5:09)
Tasty (4:22)
Review: The Time Is Now label continues to lead the way in new school garage sound with a fresh platter that matters from Mass Transit System. As ever this is hefty, bass driven tackle with plenty of throwback sounds like the reversed bass and yelping vocals stabs on 'Need Someone' and it is absolutely irresistible. After that face melter is 'Hold U Tight' with its whirring bas sounds and dark grooves, the crispy 2-step naughtiness of 'Fever' and 'Tasty' with its badman lyrics, withering sci-fi synth sounds and gritty warehouse sounds all primed and ready for maximum impact.

Breakbeat
Set You Free (4:43)
Nah Nah Nah (5:43)
Phat Booty (3:55)
Smoke (3:52)
Review: Since joining forces as Soul Mass Transit System a couple of years ago, Baby J and D Jason have released a wealth of club-ready 12" singles, many of which explore their love of vintage UK garage. This EP on Vivid is a little more eclectic but no less celebratory or peak-time ready. For proof, check saucer-eyed opener 'Set You Free', where giddy old school piano stabs, stretched-out sub-bass and spinetingling female vocal samples ride a rolling breakbeat, and the revivalist hardcore hedonism of the ludicrously bass-heavy 'Nah Nah Nah'. They doff a cap to their bassline roots on crunchy breakbeat roller 'Phat Booty', before drawing a fine EP toa close with the two-step-goes-Niche heaviness of 'Smoke'.

1 Of A Kind (5:57)
Extremely Dangerous (4:12)
Never Turn My Back (5:00)
Turn The Lights Down (6:28)
Review: Leeds twosome Soul Mass Transit System have been one of the success stories of the last 18 months, with their bass-heavy blends of UK dance music styles old and new gracing such labels as Timeisnow, Warehouse Rave and Dr Banana. Their latest EP, the pair's second outing on Instinct, is another strong offering. They begin with the seductive, sub-powered two-step revivalism of '1 ofa Kind', before reaching for darker sonic textures, serious wobble bass and echoing ragga snippets on 'Extremely Dangerous'. 'Never Turn My Back' is a pleasingly bouncy chunk of bassline-influenced two-step heat, while 'Turn The Lights Down' ratchets up the low-end pressure while showcasing chiming melodies and ultra-dreamy pads. High-grade garage business that should be an essential for anyone who loves two-step.

Wine (6:46)
Babeh (4:11)
I Know (5:17)
Review: As is often the way, this new one Instinct is as rude as flicking the bird in a pair of Nike TNs and a full tech fleece. It comes from Soul Mass Transit System, a Leeds based duo made up of D. Jason and Baby J known for their retro tinged garage bangers. 'Wine' is all naughty bass, slamming drums and jungle samples, while 'Babeh' gets more down and dirty on tightly programmed kicks, dark bass and echoing vocals that are all made for the peak time. Last of all, 'I Know' is a cluster of percussive hits and reversed effects, warped bass and twisted rhythms that make for perfect body music.

What U Did (5:29)
Over (Crazy Bank remix) (5:21)
Over (5:46)
Review: As the UK garage sound enjoys something of a boom time, Soul Mass Transit System slide up to Rhythm N Vibe with some absolutely on-point bumpers to get the party greased up good and proper. "Need U" is a slick, stripped down shuffler with classy, tightly clipped chords and vocal snippets, while "What U Did" leads in with a fuller vocal and a tougher beat. Crazy Bank's version of "Over" kicks off the B side with a cheeky vibe marked out by some wobbly synth touches like you'd hear on a micro house record from the mid '00s. The original version of the track is a more grounded, soulful workout that completes this package of piping hot garage tackle.

Soul Mass Transit System - "Heart Sing" (Vanilla Cream mix) (6:46)
D Jason - "Deception" (5:55)
Baby J - "Freakin'" (6:26)
Review: After a break of almost two years the Hokkaido Dance Club crew is back in business with an EP that explores the growth of UK garage revivalism. Soul Mass Transit System handles side A, serving up two versions of "Heart Sing": the undeniably weighty, organ-flecked speed garage flex of the "Passion Mix" and the even more bass-heavy, hybrid two-step/4-4 garage vibes of the "Vanilla Cream Mix". D. Jason opens up the flipside with the Todd Edwards style vocal cut-ups, warming organ stabs and breezy two-step drums of "Deception", before Baby J brings the curtain down via the stabbing female vocal samples, rumbling bass and crispy drums of late night workout "Freakin'".

Groovy D - "Don'tCareBoutMe" (5:29)
Stones Taro - "Rise Up" (5:09)
Review: We continue to be fully enamoured by the garage sounds getting dropped everywhere from the Midlands to Berlin to London. Much of it comes from Time Is Now, frankly, as does this new All Stars collection. It is the fourth in the series and is once more chock full of jams. Soul Mass Transit System & Introspekt keep it deep and seductive, Yemi brings a darker jungle vibe, Daffy's 'Check 1' is steeped in the same sound sources and Groovy D's 'Don'tCareBoutMe' then drops into a slinky 2-step vibe that is full of feels.
