Review: Over the last few years, Rene Pawlowitz has spent much of the time establishing a range of alternate aliases - Head High and WK7 amongst them - leaving little team for new Shed material. Constant Power is his first outing under the guise since 2013, and is every bit as essential as his previous material. There's a general '90s feel throughout, from the sharp-cornered dancefloor IDM business of "Final Distortion", to the Future Times-ish new age motifs and stuttering breaks of "Up The Hills" and Surgeon style assault of "Crystal Cubes". Best of all, though, is "Break Up II Tk4", an industrial strength fusion of thumping techno and hardcore-era breakbeat madness.

Review: "If you do not hear this" a distorted voice says at the start of Shed's third album, The Killer, before deploying a low bass frequency, "or that, you will not feel it". It's a statement of intent which is followed through with some of the heaviest material of the producer's career - whether it's the dense ambient of "STP3/The Killer", the tunnelling, waspish drone of "I Come By Night", or the screaming oscillations of "Day After". Despite being an album grounded by monolithic rave-era breakbeats, it's also an album of contemplative moments - the thermal current melodies of "Gas Up" and "The Praetorian" chief among them. The artwork says it all - this is an album made for the body, and our advice is to turn it up loud and let techno's greatest contemporary producer work his magic.

Review: Rene Pawlowitz is back on Ostgut Ton with his first album for the Berlin powerhouse since 2010's "The Traveller". It's an interesting time to hear Shed diving into his own particular distillation of techno and soundsystem ethics - sounds that have coalesced and splintered into so many factions in the past 10 years. Of course there's no doubting the man's ability to bring us the freshness - just listen to the steady dub throb and madcap break science of "Menschen Und Mauern" and marvel in the compositional heft. This is stunning, nimble, smart and downright fun club music and home listening fare sitting comfortably side by side, rarely mutually exclusive and shot through with the kind of studio precision we've come to expect.
