Review: Freerotation Records returns with another 12" featuring Freerotation residents and regulars. The theme for this release is live hardware techno and the A side features two cuts from Juju and Jordash's live improvised set from Freerotation 2017, while the flip showcases two of Freerotation 2017's live hardware acts, the evergreen Shawn Rudiman from Pittsburgh USA, and the recently revived North-Easterners Cubic Space Collective.
Collectively these artists are some of the best live techno performers in the world today, with decades of experience behind them, and true dedication to their craft.

Review: Deeply concerned with the here and now versus sister label Was/Is' electro archaeology, Is/Was delivers the goods once again with this various artists 12" zeroed in on the Pittsburgh scene. You can feel the Steel City tension reverberating in Naeem's edgy beatdown "Forward Facing", while Hits Only takes things in a slightly cleaner, modernist direction that aligns with some of the UK soundsystem interpretations of electro that have emerged in recent years. Shawn Rudiman takes control for the B side with two jams that tip their cap to the veteran producer's long and accomplished career, but they sound as fresh as anything else on the record too. "Derelict" is a gnarly, bloated banger of a track, and "Asimolar" takes the route towards Cybotron, Kraftwerk and the truly foundational version of electro in all its lysergic glory.

Review: For their latest release, Pittsburgh Tracks has turned to Shawn Rudiman, an experienced producer arguably best known for previous releases on Applied Rhythmic Technology, Matrix and Detroit Techno Militia. There are four quality cuts to choose from, of which the muted Detroit futurism of "Works On Paper" - classic sounding riffs and spacey electronics over a rolling techno groove - and the acid-fired deep space thrust of "Switching Rails" are our picks for peak-time plays. That said, ultra-deep, daydreaming IDM closer "One More Sometime" is also superb, while "Last Light On" is a deep and driving techno box jam. In other words, it's an excellent EP.

Review: Kirk DeGiorgio's Applied Rhythmic Technology imprint remains refreshing in their outlook despite their 20 years plus vintage, with this label debut from Pittsburgh's Shaun Rudiman a near perfect example of their uncompromising approach. Long regarded as one of The Steel City's most passionate advocates of the Futurist Techno more commonly associated with Detroit, Rudiman's "Uplink" feels like a mission statement. At first bristling with interest, Rudiman launches unannounced into a rattling concoction of funked up machine soul that has techno as it's mainframe but sounds unique all the same. ART complement this original with remixes from Frank Mueller and John Selway, with the former offer a constantly shifting rendition that flirts with Rudiman's alien melodies, whilst the latter drops two differing yet equally charged remixes.
