Review: Well, this is an absolute Klockworks takeover this week, and its clear that Mr.Klock himself is making a bit of a statement! This is the third episode of the new Klockworks compilation series, each one of these releases bound together by a similar artwork and, of course, a mutual love for sleek, direct techno for the mind. Newbies Jay Clarke and Ritzi Lee ride on the A-side of this double-pack, both offering a dusty procession of calculating techno, while the B-side is dominated by Reus' tenebrous "Acid Mono" and High Position's hard-hitting, dub-leaning "Cops". The second disc kicks off with Yokol's dreamy patterns through "Dense", followed by the dark and bass-heavy groove of Adam Craft. Vincent's "How I Feel" closes off the compilation with a comparatively more soulful piece via "How I Feel", a melody-rich house-techno hybrid for the masses.

Paul Mac - "Control"
Ritzi Lee - "Reverse Processed" (Paul Mac remix)
Ritzi Lee - "Subway Trip"
Paul Mac - "Grind Returns" (Ritzi Lee remix)
Review: Pitting two techno heavyweights against each other, the latest Theory release comes on strong with original tracks from Paul Mac and Ritzi Lee, who then proceed to remix each others works. Mac's "Control" is a simmering, nervous slice of slow and steady techno, while his remix of Lee's "Reverse Processed" is a more flamboyant affair with a pleasingly dirty lead synth hook and a chunky set of drums. On the flipside Lee's own "Subway Trip" comes on tough with a stout beat and some jangling looped elements that drill straight into your cerebellum, leaving his remix of Mac's "Grind Returns" to nudge into a more poised, dramatic arrangement with plenty of punch and an air of mystery about it.

Drive System (5:40)
Positive Displacement (6:28)
Release (4:56)
Detonation (5:09)
Review: The no-frills Unrillis label strikes again here with some high-octane and brain-frying techno thrillers from Ritzi Lee. 'Drive System' is a multi-layered cacophony of cantering drums and bristling synths next to vast, rusty, distorted hi-hat ringlets. 'Positive Displacement' is another loopy one with metallic hooks, pulsing bass and a relentless sense of forward motion. On the flip, Lee gets the machines to squeal and hiss and draws them out over a more minimal drum line. 'Detonation' is a bright, melodic, and 90s techno classic. Lots of variety here makes this a top EP.

Humanized (3:56)
Review: Militant techno from Ritzi Lee, as ever embracing a looming threat: the oncoming technocratic takeover of mankind. The eight-track mini-album serves as an emotionless rallying call for the robot, paying ironic homage to Dutch technological ingenuity in the process (its parent label Mord is based in Rotterdam, after all). We would go into a track-by-track breakdown, but it's ultimately all the same; shuffling factoryscapes and chalkboard smokeouts - 'Humanized' being the only curveball, but it's a pseudo-humanization at best. "Selection, overtake, control," chant the machines.

Ben Sims - "Bite This"
Ritzi Lee - "Reverse Process"
Paul Mac - "Dry Run"
Review: Ben Sims's label delivers a diverse but hard-hitting three-tracker. The label boss is first up and "Bite This" sees him sever the links with his loopy past. It's still a repetitive track, but as its basis Sims deploys a pulsing electronic groove and firing percussion, while a malevolent riff makes the transition from jarring and abrasive to atmospheric and eerie. Ritzi Lee travels a similar path on "Reverse Processed", where snappy percussion and a nagging bassline underpin metallic stabs and jarring riffs that reach out into the darkness. By contrast, Paul Mac's "Dry Run" is a more soulful experience. Despite the proliferation of spiky, metallic drums, it's the screeching, slightly deranged male vocal that stands out.

Orlando Voorn - "Pimp The Princess"
Orlando Voorn - "Pimp The Princess" (Ritzi Lee remix)
Ritzi Lee - "Meltdown" (bonus track)
Review: On the A-side Orlando comes with an oldskoolish dark Detroit track "Pimp The Princess". A mysterious, almost psychedelic/mental, atmosphere, built around a solid groove. It also has a perfect build up, breakdown and climax. This is really something to experience. The B-side contains a Ritzi Lee remix on "Pimp The Princess", in typical Ritzi Lee style. Hard, funky and uplifting. The bonus track "Meltdown" also has a solid groove, old school style techno, with mental hypnotic sounds to pull the crowd to a higher tension. This one is for the true believers!
