Review: Amongst fans of early electronic music, Raymond Scott is talked about in hushed tones. The composer and bandleader turned musique concrete artist, who passed away in 1994, built his first experimental synthesizer in 1949, and continued to invent bizarre new electronic instruments throughout his career. Manhattan Research Inc, originally released in 2000 and here reissued for the first time since, gathers together Scott compositions from the 1950s and '60s that were never intended for commercial release. Alongside a wealth of curious radio advertisements - think cheeky 50s easy listening made on homemade synthesizers - the collection boasts industrial oddities, sparse weird-outs, odd soundscapes and Radiophonic Workshop style experiments.
