Mark Archer - "We Jack The House"
Ben Pest - "Schedule Acid"
Posthuman - "Don't Rush"
Chevron - "Vishnu 303"
Review: Drum machines, synths and sequencers are alive and kicking on this various artist EP from, Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl label which features Horror Boogie's Ben Pest and Planet Mu artist Chevron. Mark Archer, a name familiar to Balkan Vinyl, opens the EP with an electrified piece of four-to-the-floor techno funk, while Ben Pest boils down the instrumentation in "Scheduled Acid" for a track that sounds like a cooler version of Mylo's "Muscle Car". Posthuman takes the EP into spacey, Detroit, 909 techno territory with "Don't Rush", while Chevron powers up his 303 to supply a track as cheeky and acidic as what Killekill's Affie Yusuf can muster.

Perseus Traxx - "Amphitheatre Of Joppa" (7:15)
Posthuman - "Turn My Tape Up" (7:51)
Paul Mac - "Borrow The Sound" (5:22)
Review: Balkan Recordings return with a third edition of their Mutant City Acid series. On the A side Cardopusher gives us some vintage Chicago acid reminiscent of DJ Bam Bam on the ferocious "Facelifter" while Perseus Traxx gives us the spooky "Amphitheatre of Joppa" which builds the suspense a lot like another certain classic by Suburban Knight; you know the one! On the B side we've got "Turn My Tape Up" by Posthuman. Not just another apt slogan for the new generation but a wicked track to boot! With its driving arpeggio that later morphs into 303 style acid and rusty drums; this one's got all you need! Finally UK techno legend Paul Mac appears too! "Borrow The Sound" sees him taking time out from engineering for the likes of Ben Sims to throw down a sturdy example of dark side electro that'd make Silicon Scally and Scape One stand up and notice.

Review: Balkan Vinyl and its TB-303 obsessed offshoot I Love acid enjoyed a hugely successful 2017, so hopes are naturally high for the Chicago jack-inspired imprint's first EP of 2018. Predictably, the compilation style affair is packed full of rock solid box jams and mind-altering peak-time workouts. Highlights include the ragged acid lines and bouncy, ghetto-house style beats of Granary 12's "Manc Mania", the futurist Detroit melodies of Matt Whitehead's "Transmit Frequency", the no-nonsense acid house psychedelia of Posthuman's "Meat Market" and the slowed-down intensity of Han Do Jin's "Drive Less". Oh, and the Adonis style swing of Chevron's on-point opener, "Hitman & Her" (which, thankfully, doesn't feature a cameo from Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan).

Wobble Tool
Review: East London label deadbeat Records is back with a third offering of no-frills, high-thrills club tackle from a long-time master of the genre in the form of I Love Acid/Balkan Records head Posthuman. All four of these cuts are full-throttle, sweat-inducing bangers with kinetic drum programming and lithe synth work. 'Head Wrench' is riddled with acid that will melt minds and 'Builder' steps things back to menacing kick and snare combos with a saw-tooth line buzzing about in the background. 'Wobble Tool' is just that - one to ensure things get messy.

Airstrip One (6:59)
Hack Jammer (LDLDN remix) (6:23)
Review: I Love Acid founders Posthuman are naturally most often associated with drum-machine-driven, TB-303 sporting jacking house, though in truth their output has always been far more varied than that. As if to prove that point, 'Hack Jammer' is not a straight-up acid house monster, but rather a deliciously rubbery, loose-limbed number that sits somewhere between electro, hip-house and acid, with rugged TB-303 motifs twisting themselves around a weighty sub-bass boom and crispy breakbeats. Bonus cut 'Airstrip 1', meanwhile, is bleep-laden acid-electro sleaziness of the highest quality. Elsewhere across the EP, you'll find contrasting takes on 'Hack Jammer' - a pulsating acid techno version from WTCHKRFT, and a hard-to-pigeonhole, synth-heavy rework from LDNLDN - and a punchy electro revision of 'Airstiop 1' courtesy of DJ Karawai.

Review: Posthuman, the duo of Richard Bevan and Joshu Doherty present the latest full length release on their Balkan Vinyl imprint titled Requiem For a Rave, where they get nostalgic about their teenage years growing up in Scotland and the north east of England. The album conjures up memories of raves in the fields, cassette recordings of pirate radio stations, mixtapes, strange warehouses, strobelights and dancefloors. Indeed you can pick up on these sentiments throughout the album, from the ruffneck ting of opener 'RMX', to the cavernous tunnel vision of 'Fontalic', the acid trance euphoria of 'Proof & Fade' and the early '90s rave throwback of 'Rushing High'. Prepare to go all the way back.

(Find Me) On The Edge Of Town (6:41)
Review: Longtime acid devotee Posthuman steps away form his own label and makes a big debut on Food Music. It's a tune that has already had plenty of hammer on Rinse FM and a DJ Mag stream so has got people dizzy in search of its ID. Well now you know and can own it yourself. 'You're Mine' is a big, playful, celebratory tune with huge stabs and old school vibes., Ticking wooden hits and a big vocal make it totally irresistible. Luke Vibert makes it more tough and techno for his part, and on the flip Black Girl/White Girl remix into a more manic and head-wrecking vibe. 'Find Me) On The Edge Of Town' closes out in fine style with a bubbly acid line building constant pressure.

Review: When it comes to robust, far-sighted and futuristic machine music, Posthuman can usually be relied upon to deliver the goods. Here they make a now rare outing away from their I Love Acid label, offering up a must-check four-track on Lobster Theremin's nostalgia-tinted There Is Love In You offshoot. The long-serving UK duo hits the ground running with sweaty opener "Chevrolet", a weighty, bass-heavy, warehouse-ready affair featuring the distinctive vocals of Josh Caffe, before switching to mind-altering acid techno heaviness on "The Depth". Over on side B, "Jupiter Traxx" sees them eagerly join the dots between electro, breaks and hip-house, while "My House Rules" is vintage deep house taken to the outer realms of the galaxy.

Down 2 Jakk (7:04)
Review: When it comes to contemporary takes on early Chicago acid, few artists have quite as impressive a track record as I Love Acid founders Joshu Doherty and Richard Bevan AKA Posthuman. Further proof arrives via the duo's first EP for Craigie Knowes, which boasts a ridiculously heavy and psychedelic workout - "Cobra Structure" - amongst its' numerous highlights. Further encouragement to start jackin' is provided via the undulating TB-303 lines, creepy chords and clanking machine drums of "Polywater Acid", while "Down 2 Jakk" fixes twisted acid lines and stabbing, rave style lead lines to crispy drums. Arguably best of all, though, is EP opener "Steal The Snow", a deep, spacey and bleeping electro cut whose fizzing energy is enhanced no end by the presence of some seriously bouncy piano riffs.

Review: Posthuman's latest full-length could well be their best yet. It does a great job in joining the dots between their usual TB-303-heavy jack-tracks, IDM/electronica past, and the conceptual sci-fi futurism that has always been a hallmark of Motor City techno. There are a few less raging peak-time smashers than you might expect, though there's no denying the incredibly high quality of the druggy chuggers, dark ambient numbers and 16-bit electro jams showcased instead. As always the packaging and presentation is superb, too, with Balkan Vinyl opting for an experimental "random coloured vinyl" pressing (there are apparently over 100 different combinations of trans-lucent and marbled vinyl across the 303 copies manufactured) and a special insert (a tube map of the fictional city and a print of the sleeve artwork) by the guys.

Review: Posthuman are cousins Richard Bevan and Josh Doherty, based in East London, UK. Doherty founded London-based acid house retrospective clubnight and label I Love Acid and also assists the legendary Mark Archer as part of his Altern8 live shows. If that was not enough, he helped relaunch the seminal B12 imprint with Steve Rutter and Mike Golding. Bevan and Doherty head up the Balkan Vinyl imprint and of course Seed: which has brought forth works by the likes of Ardisson, The Dagger Brothers and Giallo Disco's Anton Maiovvi. The slow burning and stripped down 303 shenanigans of "Preach" starts proceedings in fine form. "Temptation" also features vocalist Josh Caffe, who's worked with Hannah Holland, Robert Owens and Lauren Flax recently. It's another dirty serving of acid sleaze that's perfect for the early evening or afterhours alike.

Review: RSI is a new label affiliated to the Tusk Wax empire, and for their first release they look to the unexpected choice of the Posthuman duo of Rich Bevan and Josh Doherty. "Hecatism" sees the pair wander into deeper corners than their music is usually known for, trading electro breakbeats for a mid tempo production filled with resonant textures and vocal chunks that could nominally be described as house, while "Helioshock" sees them break out the 303 for some heady acid grooves. The remixes of the title track come expertly chosen also, with Disco Bloodbath resident Damon Martin taking the track even deeper into something approaching Balearic groove, and PORK INTL, who adds a distinctly more interstellar flavour to the original with its Danny Wolfers-style analogue house chords.

Review: Naked Eye People's Stealth Mission series continues apace with this latest sure shot of techno tricksters to get you jacking in all the best ways. I Love Acid flag-bearer Posthuman is up first with "Rejektacid", a pepped up 303 burner with a sharply executed drum machine backbone. Naked Eye People's "Balsa Wood Blues" follows up with a hopped up take on dub techno that merges with breakbeat to create something ravey yet ultimately trippy. HVL adopts his Kiyadama alias for "Slammbeat", which gets dutifully edited into shape by Ben Sims. Do The Du finish things off with some truly gnarly acid from the nightmare realm.

Review: Just as the new football season settles into it's groove, the fourth edition of the highly collectable Rothmans arrives sporting some high profile signings! Leading the way on The Claudio Gentile Release is a Foolish Felix dub of Cage & Aviary's "Lean On Me" whose deranged acid gurglings provide a nice contrast to the thrusting Escape From East London stylings of Posthuman's "Make More Men". On the flip Ali Renault returns for Rothmans duty with the Weatherall worthy "The Black Heart" whilst Iron Blu is loaned from Flight Recorder for the synthy swamp of orchestral drama that is "Oiche Shamhna"
