DJ Jus Ed - "GoTee Stroke" (6:10)
DJ Jus Ed - "Heaven Sent" (6:09)
Mr G - "Freakshow" (6:33)
Review: For the latest outing on his prolific Underground Quality label, deep house veteran Jus Ed is joined by veteran UK techno maestro Mr G. Each producer delivers two tracks in their trademark styles. Unsurprisingly Mr G's tracks are tough, stripped-back, atmospheric and heavy, with the hypnotic spookiness of "Freakshow" just edging out the bumpin' beats, weighty bass and minor key chords of "Billares Londres The Rum". In contrast, there's an inherent tunefulness about Jus Ed's two analogue deep house jams. Choose between the subtle steel drum melodies, sinewy synth-strings and Balearic house grooves of "GoTee Stroke", and the ultra-deep dub house flex of "Heaven Sent".

Drop It (Mango Boys remix) (7:35)

Drop It (Duncan Forbes Drawing On Grace remix) (7:17)
Drop It (G reprise) (3:35)
Review: Mr G is presumably called Mr G because he is such a G. For seemingly ever now he has been turning out his smoky, stripped back and economical basement house joints, coated in dirty, lo-fi pads and grime. They are rollers that lock you in and keep you there and no matter how many times we hear new ones from him, the effects are always powerful. Here we get two more on his own label - the humid 'Drop It' and more raw and urgent 'Nangs', then comes a Drawing On Grace remix of 'Drop It' from Mr G's regular team up mate Duncan Forbes that pumps a little more of a funky drum pattern and a G Reprise that allows some light into the mix.

L's G (6:54)
Review: Few artists are as reliable as MR G, who also happens to be a super nice dude and a positive presence in anyone's life - just follow him online and you'll see. The long-time underground stalwart releases a ton of music on a ton of labels - but here on his own Phoenix G he serves up a healthy dose of unreleased dubplates. As always they are rooted in deep house with heavy, firmly rooted and rolling drums, grainy pads and just the right amount of girt and grime to keep you locked in and zoned out. Another essential 12" in a career full of them.

Review: On his eighth album, legendary tech-house and low-slung techno producer Mr G offers up a typical atmospheric, mesmerising collection of cuts. Ushering us in to his rum-fired, weed-powered sound world via the hypnotic dub techno motifs and chugging tribal drums of 'For Those Who Have Lost', the long-serving Londoner proceeds to shuffle between deep, dusty, sample-rich house ('Goin' Home To See My Ma'), creepy and hushed early morning techno ('No Safe Zones'), slipped new age ambient ('Found My Space In Between', the IDM-influenced 'Floppy'), dubbed-out techno drum jams ('Mantra13 (Peace)'), ultra-deep slow jams ('New York On My Mind'), modular weirdness ('Sleepless Nightz'), head-nodding hip-hop/electro fusion ('Like DatY'All') and out-there, mind-mangling electrofunk ('Gratitude (Good, Bad, Indifferent)'.

Full A Love (Mango Boy On A Vibe) (2:20)
U Feel Mi (Kai Alce's New Feel) (5:28)
Full A Love (Mango Boy Refix) (6:08)
Review: Mr. G continues to be a bastion of the greatest deep house emanating out of the UK, and that practice extends to the artists he chooses to roll with. On this latest 12" on Phoenix G, he's reaching out to various characters for remixes which dial up the soul and don't necessarily play it safe for the floor. Kai Alce's 'New Feel' of 'U Feel Mi' is a gorgeous bath of sprightly Rhodes and sax flex, but it's more concerned with jazziness than simple riffs to keep a crowd pumped, even if there's a sharp beat underneath. Mango Boy takes two very different runs at 'Full A Love', with the 'On A Vibe' version especially impressing with its beatless rhythm mantras for the DJs who like to tease.

Stinky (3:49)
Review: Mr G is a real badman. The UK great always goes in hard with this sets and tunes - they're smoky, grainy grooves that lock you in deep for hours on end. For this year's Record Store Day he serves up a third volume of unreleased gold from his vaults. This one kicks off with a heavy sample from 'I Need A Freak' reworked into a late night and trippy tech house framework. 'Untitled 8' ups the ante with punchy and gritty techno loops, 'Tears Of Joy' then twists in some acid and last of all is the best fo the lot. It is tantalisingly short at under four minutes but is a body-shaking broken beat rhythm with heavy bass that makes you move your body right from the off.

Review: After last year's killer Record Store Day edition featuring the Relative affiliated Vinalog, UK techno legend Colin McBean aka Mr G flies solo on this year's special installment with this wicked four tracker on his esteemed Phoenix G imprint. RSD 2020 features the soulful vocals and breakbeat action of 'Bands Tight' (4 Henry) and the moody, heads-down stomper that is 'Stinger 2' on the A side, followed by the loose and low-slung after hours vibe of 'The DJ' on the flip, and ending with the evocative and atmospheric slow burner 'Song For My Forefathers'.

This is the product of that Positive Connection. G jumps right out the gate with House Attack with it's bottom heavy bassline and thrashing drums. Next Up Late Night Jam which is just that a tune to feel & breathe I the early morning hours. In Mr. G fashion he rounds up the EP with the grity hypno tune "Time"

Mango Came Round (7:23)
Review: Colin McBean continues to offer up new EPs containing sought-after cuts from his vast back catalogue. This latest EP gathers together some of the highlights from his 2012 LP "State of Flux", including a clutch that have never before appeared on wax. First up is bona-fide floor-slayer "Dark Thoughts (The Afterworld)", where McBean wraps foreboding bass and intergalactic electronics around a bounding groove, quickly followed by the gargantuan metallic percussion hits, trippy spoken word samples and restless acid bass of "G's Riddem". Turn to the flipside for the warehouse-ready acid house revivalism of "Clearing Space" and the sweaty analogue house heaviness of sub-sporting thriller "Mango Came Round...."

Cheeky Flo! (3:26)
Review: Techno stalwart Mr G was inspired to make the tracks showcased on his latest album while prepping "jazzy tracks" for a Worldwide Radio appearance alongside pal Kieran Ifill aka K15. Subsequently it's a fair more varied and musically expansive collection than we've come to expect, with tracks ranging from the vibraphone-laden house shuffle of "Praise" and bluesy downtempo grooves of "Strollin'", to the smoky jazz-dance business of "My F'ed Up Mixer", percussive "Hollywood Swinging" and bruk-up, jazz-funk influenced beauty of "That Blue Moon Feeling". It relies far more on dusty samples, hazy audio textures and non-linear beats than much of the producer's vast body of work, but that's no bad thing. In fact, it could well be one of his most ear-catching and entertaining excursions yet.

Review: There are few operators out there with the understated skills to match Colin MacBean. The man known best as Mr G is a master of the stripped down, simple groove and he's been invited to Holic Trax to demonstrate that with two productions of the most immaculate house music. "Soba Shioyaki" hovers with a touch of mystery in its melodic hooks - a punchy monosynth basslines and sweetly shifting chords striking a melancholic note perfect for heads-down moments. "Komorembi" is more overtly deep, using an urgent shuffle beat to propel spacious chords through the atmosphere in that inimitable Mr G style.

Review: Never one to rest on his laurels, Colin McBean has been as busy this year as any other, continually flying out the highest grade house and techno reductions for those who like their grooves pure and punchy. Most of that material surfaces on his Phoenix G label, but he has plenty of time (and music) for other labels too. This release on Dungeon Meat previously came out back in 2015 and has since been hailed as one of McBean's finest, so here it is in all its repressed glory. The beats are unrelenting, the feeling tripped out and alluring, just like all the best Mr G material.

Review: UK techno legend Colin McBean returns on his always reliable Phoenix G imprint with A Good Place? A dozen servings of tough and steely house music that properly brings the funk as you'd expect from the man once behind such legendary and seminal acts like The Advent and G-Flame & Mr. G. There's also a few wonderful surprises too; such as the broken beat/nu jazz deepness of "One For The Headz" or the dusty disco loops of "Interluded (part 1)". But otherwise it really is business as usual, such as on the hi octane stormer "Nothin' (Cause We Are Strong)" with its "French Kiss" style melody, the deeply emotive "In The Sun... Finally!" or the raw and rusty dust covered jack of "G's Jazz" it's all killer no filler on here we assure you!

So Wrong So Right! (7:59)
Dutty (7:08)
Brown Alley (5:09)
Review: UK house and breakdance master Mr G returns to the Warm Sounds imprint with his singular, pumping strain of pure house music. Both the label and the artist share a similar vision, and that is to make great dance music straight from the source; there's no cheap thrills here, no gimmicks and no reliance of passing trends, just quality and belief in one's own tastes. The A-side, "So Wrong So Right!" is deep, majestic but still carries enough swing to get the dance floor up and going, especially seeing as Mr G slides in his signature drum swing that we love so much. "Dutty", on the flip, is more UK in its selection of bass and samples, but nevertheless filled with that same Mr G charm, while "Brown Alley" gets the techno flow going, and ties off this excellent EP in the finest of styles. Another Warm Sounds bomb - recommended!

Bring It! (5:22)
Review: Colin McBean is an unstoppable force at the moment isn't he! At the moment you say? Yeah too right; the guy never actually stopped his relentless pursuit of the perfect house and techno grooves since the '90s and this Conectionz EP is no exception. Starting things off in explosive fashion with the "You In Or You Out? (Sims Jacker edit)" with its relentless thud and crack of a 909 workout with funky bass and evil pads helped out by some generous reverb build ups; all you need really. The original version up next is more restrained deep house with that great vocal refrain repeating "live your life the way you wanna be free" the tracks aggression provided by those hissing rhythms. Finally "Bring It" is a soulful breakbeat number with soaring synth leads that is a great departure from McBean's normal style.

Pan Pacific (8:43)

Black Pepper Crab (7:47)
Review: Established back in 2011, Singapore's Midnight Shift label has grown to reflect the diverse bookings across the house and techno spectrum that pepper their associated club nights. For example, the past four 12"s from the label have spanned Andreas Gehm, John Heckle, Eduardo De La Calle and Portuguese producer Kaspar. Up next it is Colin 'Mr. G' McBean whose Ternasek 12" arrives amidst a rich vein of killer singles from the man widely regarded as genuine UK house royalty. According to Midnight Shift, these three tracks were made after McBean was struck with inspiration on a visit to the Singaporean city of the same name, with aural markers of his time there sunk deep into the pulsing functionalism of the productions. As with the majority of Mr G material, this are prime club grade tech-edged house rollers.

Transient (9:07)
Crumple Zone (6:58)
Review: UK house king Mr G is always a pleasure to hear and write about. That's because his own personal variety of house music is just so damn lively, upbeat and, well.. fun. He is back on Bass Culture after a lengthy hiatus from the French label, but "Transient" is a masterful return to the imprint thanks to a deep, grainy rhythm with a glorious cascade of percussion. "Crumple Zone" on the flip is darker and less welcoming than its predecessor, but the old-school b-boy still manages to get that trademark Mr G vibe into the arrangement. Solid house music, as per usual.

Review: Colin McBean is back everyone, look out! It's the same quality you expect from the techno don, as he brings the funk, rawness and unadulterated groove on the Infrastructure EP. First up is "Guiness Punch (Xtra Ray Dub), a stripped and atmospheric joint with sweet female vox and a mesmerising keys melody plus bumpy bassline. But wait until those Mr. G trademark open hi hats and cracking claps come in. Next the acidic "Give Thanx!" ups the ante with its ultra sick bassline and hypnotic chime melody which will easily crossover into other techno sub genres impressively. Finally "Invert?" explores sonar techno aesthetics accompanied by sampled diva vocals on this truly sick pre peak time slow burner. Tip!

Review: Colin McBean aka Mr G is back with another full length. We know what you're thinking; it's probably awesome? Well duh! Damn right it is, so here's more with the good news; several tracks of slamming tech funk that this man is renowned for and it's all killer. First track "Entrance" is the soundtrack to a techno aerobics class, take a listen! "Sub Level 3 (G's Freak Zone)" uses a nasty arpeggio untypical of his previous work but those strings that come in are just epic! "Interlude @ ?" keeps on with his typical sense of humour and in sound with its tough and dirty sense of funk that's so emotive at the same time. "Thrust" is proper peak time business that reminds you why he was once one half of The Advent; banging, doom laden hard groove.

Binky's Groove (6:25)
Dis-tracted! (6:03)
Review: The UK's number one house pusher, Mr G, steps out of his own Phoenix G stable and lands on Holland's long-running Planet Rhythm, an imprint ran out of The Netherlands by Glenn Wilson. The music, however, is quality as per usual from our main man but the tracks are a little darker, a little edgier in texture. "M's Retrogade", for instance, is more broken compared to Mr G's usual sound, its metallic percussion stabbing away nicely at the rolling beats, while "Flexable" is deeper, dubbier and straighter. Over on the flip, "Binky's Groove" is a classic G joint, straight highs and ingenious vocal samples sliding like mad, and "Dis-tracted" is a swinging techno belter for peak time floor damage. Red hot!

Review: Last year's Personal Momentz was perhaps Colin McBean's finest long player to date as Mr G, and a fine way to pay homage to his father whose passing away inspired the set. How to possibly improve on the album? What about a 12" addendum featuring a quartet of Mr G productions laid down in the same recording sessions. Personal Momentz (Add On+) is, obviously, quintessential Mr G, four cuts of dub tinged house music that will slot perfectly into any selector's sets with the unashamedly vibrant "Lot To Say..." a stand out inclusion. Mr G you are just too good to us.

Free Fall
Crab Jerk
Review: After the imprint debuted with a split release from Shady P and The Friend, Kris Wadsworth's Breed imprint turns to Mr G for a record steeped in all the trusty, quality traits you expect of Colin McBean. It's a particularly slender affair on the A side, as "Free Fall" works around a minimalistic loop suited to the most drawn out of late night techno mixes, with some choice timpanis thrown in for good measure. "Crab Jerk" meanwhile turns the heat up with one of those sensual chord / vocal interplays that no-one can do quite like the original Mr G.
