Review: As label debuts go, SALT001 feels like a genuine statement of intent. Run by Melbourne producers Shedbug and Rudolf C (who both contribute tracks), Salt Mine's first outing touches on a number of contemporary deep house trends whilst retaining the kind of hazy, Balearic feel most associated with the Australian city. Mall Grab & Rudolf C's dreamy "Untitled (Track 2)" pays tribute to the new age house sounds of Vancouver, while Shedbug's "End of the Drone" inhabits the ambient techno territory recently visited by Shine Grooves and the Acting Press crew. Elsewhere, Coastdream's "Untitled 16" sits somewhere between Motor City futurism and the raw rhythms of L.I.E.S, and DJ Phlowgod's "Summer" is a pitch-perfect analogue jam full of clattering machine drums, boogie synths and jackin' intent.

Review: Mall Grab's new album showcases the full gamut of the acclaimed producer's sound across 13 hefty new cuts. The Aussie himself says of the album that it is "deeply personal and an exploration of all influences, sounds and sides of the Mall Grab project." He only dropped out of university six years ago but since then has grown into a new school DJ star who has found solace in making music. Review: Everyone's favourite house larrikin Mall Grab returns for the 20th edition of his esteemed Steel City Discs. The young Aussie serving up four killer tunes here, jam packed full of classic house tropes and euphoric positivity. Opening cut 'Room Full Of Rothko'' with its anthemic chord progression playing centre stage is sure to get those hands in the air when it gets played in the clubs. Peak time techno banger 'Nonstop Feeling' takes a darker turn, powered by its roaring Reese bassline and throwback trance motifs. The classic KMS sound seems to be a recurring theme here, as heard on B side cut 'III' existing in two epic parts.

Review: Mall Grab is a master of big room house sounds that manage to fill vast warehouses but also come with enough detail as to make them more than merely mindless bangers. His latest once again treads that fine line between too much and not enough across four full flavour and characterful cuts. 'Room Full Of Rothko' is all frothing chords and brisling house beats that race along at silky speeds, then 'Nonstop Feeling' is heavier, with dark trance synths and a more forlorn vibe. 'Ill' comes in two parts - one banging and sweaty, with old school rave motifs and plenty of flashing stones and one, well, pretty much the same.

Review: Back in March, Jordon Alexander AKA Mall Grab returned to the Looking For Trouble imprint he founded in 2018 with his first missive of the year. Even by his standards, it was a wild, all-action affair, and this follow-up is no less giddy or sweaty. "Take Down Enemies" is a blistering, all-action affair, with Alexander peppering a stomping industrial techno beat with tight acid motifs and cut-up hip-hop vocals. Under the Special Request alias, Paul Woolford offers up a surging, scintillating rework that adds huge dollops of techno-funk to the Australian's slamming original. Elsewhere, "Alarmed" is a more psychedelic and trance-inducing take on Alexander's big room techno template, while "Smash" is a thunderous voyage through body-popping electro nastiness.

Review: More from Mall Grab, the prolific producer who has become deep house royalty since making his debut back in 2015. As usual, the tracks showcased here are rich in both atmosphere and melodious intent. He begins via the woozy, minor key chords, quietly bustling beats and dreamy sampled vocal loops of peak-time standout "Caught Slippin", before showcasing his love of electro on the tuneful and evocative bubbler "Out of Time". Flip to side B for the jazzy, musically rich deep house bump of "Ahmad" - the kind of track with which he initially made his name - and a dusty, lo-fi, acid-powered remix of the same track from Damiano von Erckert.

Review: Jordan Alexander's Mall Grab alias has provided nothing but goodness since his first EP in 2015, and he's released a staggering amount of material just over a year. Releases for stables like 1080p, Church and Unknown To The Unknown haven't gone unnoticed from us, and we now await his next moves with high expectations. Thankfully, he hasn't let us down with this new pack of bangers for Hot Haus, with the opener "I Just Wanna" mashing up harsh Chicago house with a little bit of disco sensibility. An instant hit. Flip to the B-side and you're presented with the off-kilter groove that is "Kalumbo", whereas "Feelin' Good" takes more of a traditional house approach to flap its ghetto-ass wings. An excellent little tip, this!

Review: To date, Jordan "Mall Grab" Alexander has barely put a foot wrong. Like many other Melbournian contemporaries, Alexander specializes in deep house that's variously deep, jazzy and dreamy, but always delightfully dusty. Happily, he touches on all three directions on this superb EP for Church. The jazz aspect comes to the fore on jaunty opener "Down", where vintage piano samples ride a swinging, bass-and-cymbal heavy groove. The Australian does his best Florist impression on the ultra-deep, bongo-driven bliss of "French Girls", while title track "Sun Ra" sounds like a tooled-up take on Pender Street Steppers' deepest moments. Finally, he combines effortless jazziness with bumpin' deepness on the standout "Can't".

Review: Unstoppable Aussie house maverick Mall Grab takes a deep splash with three more premium cuts. "Pool Party Music" is a loopy, jacking slab of raw fun. If it soundtracks any particular time of a pool party it's when everyone starts pushing each other it. Joyously buzzy. "BFODAAS" takes us back to the earlier chapter of the party where the vibe is warming up, drinks are sliding down and there's not a cloud in the sky. Finally the warm, rolling bleepy "Catching Feelings" catches the moment where you're wrapped in a fluffy towel and cuddled up with pool friends old and new. Bliss.

Deep House
Review: In the space of a year, Mall Grab has gone from being a promising newcomer, to one of house music's most hyped producers. While this 12" for new label Steel City Dance Discs is unlikely to be quite as successful as the ubiquitous "I've Always Liked Grime", it nevertheless still contains two fine workouts from the Melbourne man. Typically, "Father" is a woozy, soulful, loose and bumpin' chunk of hazy, saucer-eyed deep house loveliness whose chopped-up gospel vocal samples work perfectly with the chunky, low-slung groove. "Can't Take It No More" is a little jazzier and sprightlier, with filtered soul vocal samples and fuzzy horn lines riding a typically bouncy house groove.

Review: Jordan Alexander's been rinsing it under his Mall Grab moniker, and every release since his debut back in 2015 has been hotly tipped by us here at Juno towers. EP's for Church, 1080p and Collect-Call have now earned him a spot on Unknown To The Unknown, one of our favourite labels and surely one of the most diverse, too. "I've Always Like Grime", as the name implies, is a house track made by someone who listened to high doses of Crazy Titch and Plastician back in the day, but "Black Palms" does its best to distance itself from the UK thanks to some pretty nasty acid bumps, and "Menace II Society" heads to Chicago with its singular vocal sample and dusty house flex. Sick!

Review: Aussie deep house sort Mall Grab is flying right now. Having impressed with a quartet of fine EPs for some seriously hot labels (1080p, Shall Not Fade and Church included), Jordan Alexander resurfaces on nascent imprint Hokkaido Dance Club. Predictably, he serves up four more chunks of high quality, floor-friendly deep house. Naturally, there's much to admire, from the bass-heavy late night throb of "Let U Know" - all dreamy chords, touchy-feely vocal samples and bombastic bottom end - to the deeper, trippy flex of "Twin Peaks", where Hashman Deejay style synthesizer lines stretch out over a thrusting, tech-tinged groove.

Review: Aussie deep house producer Jordon Alexander has enjoyed a successful 2015, delivering a pair of deliciously woozy and evocative - yet pleasingly floor-friendly - EPs on Collect-Call and 1080p. Here, he rounds of the year with another sumptuous selection of tracks that should please anyone who likes their deep house warm, dubby and trippy. Both "Happiness" and "Orange County" make great use of dreamy, delay-laden vocal samples, placing them atop effortlessly tactile grooves and toasty chords. He subtly increases the tempo on the densely percussive but decidedly hazy "Alone", before delivering more horizontal, fireside deepness in the shape of "Real".

Review: 2015 has been a productive year thus far for Mall Grab, with impressive releases to his name on Gold Nite and NES. Here he pops up on the brand new Collect Call imprint with yet more deep and spacey dancefloor business. With its' delay-laden spoken word samples, rolling organs and bouncy low-end warmth, lead cut "Feel U" is something of a groovy delight. He goes even deeper on the interspace broken techno vibes of "Guap", before exploring Vancouver style pads and stuttering, dusty rhythms on "Eyes". Best of all, though, is "Osaka", whose raw drum patterns and throbbing bassline offer a neat contrast to Mall Grab's heady melodies and evocative chords.

Review: The first in a series from Pelvis Records, DJ Tools Volume 1 features an all Australian lineup of artists across six tracks. Varying in tempo and moods, this first round comes courtesy of Sam Weston, Mall Grab (his contribution "GTFO" is a gnarly 303 acid jam with one seriously angry monologue atop), Chunyin, Body Corp (with the tribal trance induction of "Vosa" which will take you deep into the exotic), Jamie Blanco (UK expat) and Pelvis.
