Review: Talented multi-instrumentalist Leland Whitty's solo work takes him away from the improv style of the collaborative band (BADBADNOTGOOD) that has made his name and into exquisite song craft and structure. He has worked with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Mary J. Blige to Earl Sweatshirt so has a broad range of skills and they are all on show here. This record was written after he had worked on various film scores and so it mixes up cinematic composition with jazz and rock. He plays on guitar, synthesizer, woodwinds, production, composition and strings and works true narrative into each track.
