Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

To mark their 50th release, Brooklyn scalpel fiends Razor-N-Tape has put together a triple-pack of tried-and-tested reworks from some of the scene's heaviest hitters. It's as strong as you'd expect, with highlights including the heavyweight, delay-laden disco-funk brilliance of Dimitri From Brooklyn's "Hooked On This Feeling" (a dub disco revision of an old Frank Hooker jam by Dimitri From Paris), the Clavinet-driven, piano-laden peak-time hustle of Joey Negro's "Let's Get Ornery", the Clarinet and trumpet-sporting hedonism of Jacques Renault's emotive and heart-tugging "Said I Would" and the screaming, hands-aloft rush of Superprince's "Dependable". Fittingly, label co-fouder JKriv delivers one of the standouts, a rolling revision of an Italo-style, arpeggio-driven delight titled "Lovin' Lasers".

Saucy Lady - "Reunite Under Starlight" (6:11)
JKriv - "Not That Serious" (feat Angela Johnson) (6:45)
Review: Like its predecessor, Big Love's second A Touch of Love EP brings together a wealth of previously digital-only tracks on one must-check slab of wax. Original disco-era diva Debbie Jacobs provides a star turn on Dirty Channels' EP-opening 'Let Love In', a muscular slab of disco-house full of soaring horns and filtered instrumentation, while Seamus Haji's remix of DJ Meme's 'Can't Get You Out of My Mind' is a warming, rolling, life-affirming exercise in peak-time 21st century disco with added house-style percussive weight. The B-side boasts two top-notch slabs of boogie revivalism: Saucy Lady's warming, slap-bass-sporting 'Reunite Under Starlight' and Razor N Tape co-founder JKriv's sparkling Angela Johnson collaboration 'Not That Serious', which is so authentic-sounding that it could have been made in 1983.

Review: Brooklyn's Discovery Recordings hits release number three with a killer drop from Free Magic and JKriv. It's hard to look past the slow burning delights of title track "Catalano" here, with killer pared back percussive elements supporting the supple groove and sultry vocals. "Headbands" meanwhile is a more summery affair with a more discernable vocal lead and insouciant keys; flip over for the chunkiest cut of the lot, "Night Braces", which is perfectly suited for the late, late hours. Definitely a label to keep an eye on. Limited hand stamped pressing too!

Review: Introducing a special edition 12' maxi EP from Barefoot Beats. This extraordinary release offers four dynamic tracks, each representing the heart and soul of Brazil's vibrant music scene. On the first side, you've got Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco with 'Fique Louca' with its playful vocal whoops and funky breaks that are guaranteed to heat up any dancefloor. Next up is Salvador's Processman who delivers a rhythm-infused Bahian delight that will work at the open air or club alike, with its mesmersing Arp line and captivating rhythmic chant. Over on the flip, there's the upbeat and lively 'Drive You Crazy' by NYC-based JKriv of Razor N Tape, and finally Joutro Mundo from Rio closes out the EP with a sweet melodic anthem that will have you singing and dancing along.

Review: Razor-N-tape label co-head JKriv has been busy in the studio with his scalpel. He has created these four tasteful edits for the Pleasure Of Love label and brings all his disco, house, funk and New Knowledge to the label. 'Got A Thing' is a glorious disco cut with an irresistible vocal before 'Don't Take Your Love Away' sinks into a more seductive boogie and soul groove. 'GD' is a nice choppy, classy and classic house cut then 'Feel It' gets a little more dark and menacing for those late night hours with raw percussion and lithe melodies daring about the rugged rhythms.

Review: JKriv has delivered some of the finest solo productions of his career in recent times, including a pair of killer EPs on the Razor-N'-Tape label he co-founded with fellow Brooklyn resident Aaron Dae. Here he takes a break from crafting his own killer cuts to deliver some tooled-up reworks for the Echo Beach Edits series. He begins by delivering a bouncy, piano-rich, house style take on a soaring disco gem ('Mountain'), before successfully cutting up and rearranging a woodblock-powered disco-funk instrumental ('The House'). Over on the flip 'Down Slow' is an excitable, synth-sporting revision of a soulful disco-funk workout, while standout 'Tera Amor' sees him sprint his way through a carnival-ready samba/MPB sing-along.

Review: A nice one this week from the ever reliable Razor N Tape out of NYC by label chief J Kriv, on the late night boogie-down vibe of 'Something Else' featuring totally electrifying vocals by Brandon Markell Holmes. Also featured is the low-slung disco heater 'Try Again' featuring Phenomenal Handclap Band and another irresistible vocal courtesy of Nic Hanson on side A. On the flip, it's all about 'Shoulda Been Me' (feat Toribio) which receives a spiritual deep house rework by the one-and-only Alton Miller that's worth the admission alone. Tip!

Review: Having appeared on Razor-N-Tape, Z Records and File Under Disco in recent years, NYC's Jkriv steps up to Peter Croce and Moonlighter's Rocksteady Disco with three precision-picked Latin-laced floor-heaters for three totally different shades of the night. Title track "Aguaxire" takes a Brazilian standard and whips it up in a vat of bubbling jazzy acid, "Ive Brussell" gives Jorge Ben a new suit and kick-ass chunky shoes while "Deep Cove View" takes the swooning soul of Tania Maria and loops it up with stuttering samplecraft. Genius.

Review: New York's JKRIV is shaping up to be something of a nu-disco revelation, particularly for his love for all things 'outernational'. In fact, then DJ-producer has released nothing but hip-swinging Latin funk over the last few years, and this RSD 2018 release for Brooklyn's Razor-N-Tape, Ferias 77' Reworks, is testament to that. In here, you'll find nothing but sick reinterpretations of classic Brazilian funk and disco, re-moulded to fit the modern ear and, of course, the modern sound-systems. Subtle swings of boogie-filtered disco, deep and sensual house, and a whole load of trippy-hop make this a blazing summer belter, and there's even a slow, Balearic rework of Edu Lobo's infamous "Ponteio".

Review: The name JKriv may seem unfamiliar but the producer behind this alias, Jason Kriveloff, has plenty of production chops under his name across a multiplicity of labels. Deep & Disco is Jkriv's own imprint and launches in fine style with "Another Night" a release packed to the brim with reasons for the contemporary disco fan to indulge. Firstly it features a sultry vocal turn from Escort singer Adeline Michele whose soulful refrain is the perfect foil for Jkriv's bouncing modern disco arrangement. Secondly the masterful Greg Wilson turns in a splendid extended version and thirdly Portugal's finest Social Disco Club explores the groove with a brilliantly boompty dub version containing plenty of hands in the air piano vibes.

Review: Having made its bow on digital download last autumn, JKriv and Adeline's brilliant "Vertigo" finally makes it to wax. The original Club Mix sounds like a long lost cut from Brooklyn disco revivalists Escort, a band that both JKriv and Adeline were members of. It's absolutely brilliant all told - think strong choruses, Nile Rodgers guitars, jangly pianos and walking bass - as is JKriv's throbbing, delay-laden Dub. In between you'll find a dusty disco-house revision from Yuksek and a storming interpretation from Z Records chief Joey Negro, who wraps Adeline's vocal and JKriv's bassline in colourful new boogie synths and some classic disco-funk horns. There's no doubt about it, this will be one of the biggest disco records of 2019.

The 11th Barefoot beats is another hugely effective disco 12" with two well purposed cuts. JKriv & Dicky Trisco link up first for 'Mae Do Mar,' a tune that has you dreaming of warmer climes, sandy beaches and sunny skies. It's an airy cut with a tropical percussive line, hints of Latin flair and breezy vocals. Review: Summer's here, so that means another 10" slab of Brazilian edit action from the consistent Barefoot Beats label. Razor 'n' Tape/Deep & Disco man JKriv handles the A-side, serving up a crunchy, Clavinet and funk guitar-laden chunk of sweat-soaked disco-funk with that distinctively Brazilian sweetness ("Barefoot Boogie"). While a little loopy, the Brooklyn-based producer has craftily retained the sax-heavy swing of his original source material. On the flip Midnight Riot regular Joutro Mundo steals the show with "Caue", a superb edit of a vaguely familiar, string-laden chunk of AOR disco brilliance that subtly builds throughout.

Review: The UK's Kat is back with yet more tasteful edits of forgotten gems. From disco to house, folk to funk and balearic nuggets: these guys know the score. This time around it's over to New York City's Jason Kriveloff aka Jkriv, who works that magic razor once again on these wonderful re-edits. On the A side we've got Red Sharon (see what he did there?) with "Handle It" (JKriv RNT dub) which takes a right diggers delight into sultry, late night territory and sure to burn up any dancefloor. On the flip is Marashal (oh come on already!) with "Socket Rockin". No guesses what's going on here but just for the record: it is one funky and soul filled celebration and most of all, a respectful edit.

Review: Given the talent on display, you'd expect this second Editor's Kutz #5 12" to be rather good. It is, of course, with all four tracks hitting the mark. J Kriv steps up first, layering sweet strings, blissful guitar solos and sparkling synthesizers over a beefed-up jazz-funk groove. Riccio weighs in with the similarly hazy, stoner rock era blue-eyed soul revision "Space Traveller", before The Noodleman loops up acoustic guitars, baggy vocals and twittering flute solos on his house-not-house take on "Baby Doll". Finally, Amsterdam-based bad man Marcel Vogel dons his EmVee guise to drop a heavy chunk of stripped-back, sax-laden disco-house in the shape of EP highlight "Dance The Blues Away".

'Make That Change' channels the heyday of classic early '80s NYC disco, accompanied by Saucy Lady's wonderful vocal work - guaranteed to be a floor filler. Review: If you love slap bass then don't read another word and just press play... The bulbous slappery on both of Faze Action's remixes really is a funk disco delight. Couple with pounding pianos, a robust electro and big room dynamics, this is a perfect example of how nu-disco can be up-scaled to peaktime without losing any of its charm. Dicky Trisco's take on "Ready To Work" is much more traditional in that sense; with its sweeping strings it's not dissimilar to a Sunburst Band dub while the ticked out vocals are reminiscent of PKA's "Temperature Rising". Premium gear, this; we're anticipating many pocket rockets for "Disco Rocket".

Following the success of their remix on the JKriv & The Disco Machine's original last year, the ever-consistent Idjut Boys have re-remixed it for darker, late night floors. Removing the lolloping bassline of their original mix and replacing it with a classic Joey Beltram / Black Strobe style acid hook, it's a real gurner of a disco track that leans heavily towards the latest of hours. Adeline Michele shouldn't be a stranger to you, too... She's worked with JKriv before on "Another Night" five years ago.
