Review: This one came our back in January but sold out in quick fashion, so a limited edition repress is now here but likely to be gone just as quick. And it's easy to see why as this latest Breaks & Beats offering takes on edits of two massive James Brown classics. Extended with DJ friendly breaks and elongated grooves, the Godfather of Soul's fine original is made into a much more useable tool. Jimmy Smith classic "Root Down" gets similar treatment on the flip as it starts and ends with some very workable drum loops that will liven up any set and party.

Review: A 7" reissue of the 1968 funk/soul-jazz single by Jimmy Smith, one of the most influential jazz keyboardists and organists of all time. Coming about at a comically Afrofuturistic career highpoint, 'Stay Loose' is an immediately arresting jazz funk cut, documenting Smith's insistence that the listener stay loose, open-minded, soft of heart. Of course, without such an attitude, the spirit of funk simply cannot be inherited.

Review: Jazz soul gold taken from the legendary Jimmy Smith's 1974 album Black Smith, Ultra Vybe reissue two of its finest cuts. "I'm Gonna Love You A Little More Babe" takes Barry White's 1973 baby maker to vibrant upbeat pastures with powerful swooning female harmonies. "Why Can't We Live Together" takes Timmy Thomas's 1972 ballad to equally smooth and arresting places. Released together for the first time on 45" with full remaster stripes, this is a perfect entry point into one of Smith's many treasure trove LPs.
