Imre Kiss - "Dis Slo"
Review: Oh yes, Exitab's Proto Sites series delivers its third instalment and it's nothing but vibes thanks to a collaboration between Hungary's Imre Kiss and Slovakia's fledgling artist, Casi Cada Minuto. The former has appeared on London's Lobster Theremin while the latter has remained within Exitab's catalogue for the time being. Three tracks from each artist, all of them exploring the furthest ranges of techno and electronica. Casi Cada Minuto's contributions can only be described as ambient stunners thanks to their watery textures and sparse soundscapes, while Imre Kiss' cuts are undeniably more club-friendly, but only just about! "Dis Slo" is arguably the winner of the lot, bringing forth a twitchy beat jam filled with airy sonics and just the right level of grit.

Techno
Never (5:51)
Stateless (5:10)
Track 3 (5:30)
Review: Somewhat surprisingly, it's been two years since Imre Kiss's most recent outing on Lobster Theremin, the fine Raw Energy EP. This belated follow-up - his first 12" single since - is every bit as essential. Perhaps the most striking track is "Never", a fizzing but spaced-out techno excursion that makes great use of tumbling sub-bass and dreamy, ambient style chords. That said, the slower and even more bass-heavy curiosity that is "Stateless" - mutant broken techno fused with ultra-deep house - is almost as good, while bold, bumpin' B-side "Track 3" is the EP's most straightforward dancefloor moment.

Review: Oh Lord! These days there are even reissues of albums from a few years back on different labels! That just shows the state we're in right now: everybody's just vinyl hungry. Imre Kiss' 2013 cassette excursion on Farbwechsel, the aptly named Midnight Wave, is given the vinyl treatment by London powerhouse Lobster Theremin, and the artwork has been given a good makeover, too. Many of you are probably familiar with the release already, but this is the perfect joint if you're looking for house music that spans onto the bizarre and the abstract; you'll find nine tracks of meditative dancefloor delight and, as Ron Morelli would label it, it's certainly club music for shut ins. For fans of everything from Opal Tapes to Berceuse Heroique.

Belief
Review: With only a handful of releases to his name, it's a little too early to say that Hungarian producer Imre Kiss could be one of the producers to check over coming years. Still, the signs are good. This first EP for the on-point Lobster Theremin label is packed full of highlights, from the crackling deep house-meets-dub techno shuffle of "Spellbound" and hustling, rush-inducing Detroit techno blast of "Raw Energy (APROS Session)", to the loopy, cymbal-heavy dream-house of ultra-deep flipside "Belief". Best of all, though, is "Non", which sounds like a slowed down remake of Laurent Garnier's classic techno anthem "Crispy Bacon".

Cat: CRISIS 001. Rel: 18 Jul 18

Electro
Tempel 1 (3:01)
Ad Astra (6:05)
Motor City Dreams (5:17)
Alpha Hertz (5:58)
Density Waves (5:24)
Review: Hungarian producer Imre Kiss inaugurates his new Crisis imprint after several acclaimed releases for top labels such as Lobster Theremin, Mork and Farbwechsel in the last few years. The tracks presented here on the Ad Astra EP are in collaboration with homeboy Norwell (Pinkman/Beachcoma/New Flesh) who have a mutual sonic interest: sci-fi narratives and analogue dedication - combined to reinterpret and evolve the blueprint of electro that it draws influence from. There are expressions in brooding, gothic/noir-ish electro like the title track and "Density Waves", while "Motor City Dreams" or "Alpha Hertz" go for typically bass heavy and dystopian themes from a 313 state of mind.
