Baby Wants To Ride (5:12)
Your Love (5:07)
Review: Until recently, it was rare to see early Chicago house anthems on seven-inch single. Get Down Records is on a mission to change this and has been pumping out dinky TRAX reissues at a furious rate. Here they serve up a fresh pressing of Frankie Knuckles' most celebrated single: 1987's double A-side "Baby Wants To Ride/Your Love". Really, you should know both by now - they're amongst the most played and written-about house tracks of all time - but if not, check the sound clips. Remarkably, both the sleazy "Baby Wants To Ride" and luscious, rush-inducing house-soul of "Your Love" sound as fresh and inspiring now as they did 31 years ago.

Review: Chicago's legendary Trax Records is on fire as of late (as if they never were!) with all their reissues and once again, they've hit the nail on the head with this gem by dearly departed don and house innovator, Frankie Knuckles. This is pure Paradise Garage vibes from start to finish, each track spewing gritty beats and sexy melodies with an unmistakable disco flavour. "Your Love" is a tune that needs to introduction and it's probably the reason why you're here now browsing through the house 12"s. Essential doesn't even cover it.

Waiting On My Angel (7:46)
Review: In this week's house charts, it's certainly Frankie Knuckle's "Waiting On My Angel" which gets the number one spot, and this is due to various reasons. First of all, this majestic piece of house music was made all the way back in 1985; yes, that's thirty years ago and the tune still sounds as fresh as anything played in the clubs today. Secondly, it's also Jamie Principle's first commercial single, and you can hear everything from David Bowie to Kraftwerk in the mix. Last but not least, it's produced by the late Frankie Knuckles, a guy who knew a thing or two about house music. Oh, and we forgot to say that you get three mixes of the tune, including the much sought-after dub on the tail-end of the B-side. You simply can't miss this.

The Whistle Song (Cinthie remix) (6:33)
The Whistle Song (Re-Directed) (7:59)
Review: Following on from it arriving on standard vinyl, Sosure Music now offer up a nice pink wax offering from Director's Cut, aka the late, great Frankie Knuckles collaboration with long-time studio companion Eric Kupper. 'The Whistle Song' is one of Frankie's best tunes from back in 1991 and was originally composed by Kupper so it makes sense they later revisited it together. It's a bleary eyed and loved up late night deep house cut for zoned out dancing. Kupper's 'Redirected' revision is deeper and makes more of the whistling lead line. Both versions are superb.

The Whistle Song (Cinthie remix) (6:36)
The Whistle Song (Re-directed) (8:04)
Review: The latest release from Director's Cut, the late, great Frankie Knuckles collaboration with long-time studio companion Eric Kupper, offers two fresh remixes of one of the Godfather of House's greatest moments, 1991's 'The Whistle Song' (itself a Kupper compositon, fact fans). Cinthie does a superb job with her A-side remix, re-inventing the track as an immersive, saucer-eyed slab of rushing piano house that just oozes emotion from start to finish. By the time she introduces the track's famous whistling synthesizer melody, you'll be happily lost in the music. Over on the flip you'll find Kupper's 'Redirected' revision, which naturally makes much more of the whistling lead line and the colourful chords and counter melodies he and Knuckles promoted on the Director's Cut project. Fine versions of a classic cut... don't sleep!

Your Love (Danism remix)
Your Love (URH remix)
Review: Nocturnal Groove have done a grreat job of reissuing a healthy number of remixes for this now too-good-to-hear masterpiece! The Shapeshifters up first, who keep all those lovely lyrics but give the track a harder, pumping edge. Pete Gooding's rerub is a harsh tech-house vision of the original and it works wonders, whereas over on the flip, Danism go for a synth-pop re-modelling - another biggie...URH closes with a samba-rhythm deep house flex, adding in some tasty bongos and background female vocals. Good job guys!

Review: SoSure Music have re-released Director's Cut's 2012 funky house anthem "Can't Get Over U" with a couple of modern reshapes for modern dance floors. The duo was comprised of 'Godfather of house music' Frankie Knuckles with veteran producer Eric Kupper. Berlin's Chambray (REKIDS/&Friends/Dirtybird) injects a bouncy lo-fi shuffle into his rework, while industry legend Tedd Patterson keeps that classic vibe alive - like only he can - on his version. On the flip, we have Frankie's own 'Mr Director's 'Feels Good' Dub' (a vinyl exclusive) of which Frenchman Sami Dee serves up a brilliant edit as well.

Your Love (Director's cut Signature mix) (9:21)
Review: As one of the most cherished of all house tracks ever made, you have to be careful who you ask to remix Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle's 'Your Love'. Darius Syrossian recognises this as he offers a contemporary version of the track on this 12", threading a chunky, lightly swung tech house back bone to the track and slipping some breakbeats in underneath those dizzying emotional peaks in the track. Meanwhile Alan Dixon creates a version that holds closer to the original and simply beefs up the drums and threads some fatter synths into the mix. Meanwhile Knuckles himself teamed up with Eric Kupper to form Director's Cut in 2011, and their version appears here as a subtle update to the power of the original.

Review: Almost a decade ago, Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper launched the Director's Cut project with a re-make of Jamie Principle's early Chicago house classic 'Your Love' (or, to be more precise, Knuckles' 1987 version of the track). Here it gets the reissue treatment, with Knuckles and Kupper's 'Signature Mix' from 2011 - a glossy, loved-up and deliciously colourful affair - getting another airing on side B. On the A-side you'll find two fresh reworks. First, Darius Syrossian strips back and beefs up the cut while playing around with the famous synthesizer riff, before Alan Dixon delivers a chunkier and up-tempo take that makes great use of some of Knuckles and Kupper's wonderfully colourful instrumentation.

Review: Back in 2011, Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper debuted their Director's Cut project by teaming up with old pal Jamie Principle on "I'll Take You There". Here it gets the reissue treatment, with a trio of classic mixes being joined by a fresh revision from scalpel maestro Moplen. His version is delicious, with Principle's loved-up vocal rising above bubbly synth-bass, evocative organ lines, swirling synthesizer motifs and sunrise chords. There's another chance to enjoy Director's Cut's own warm and glassy-eyed "Signature Remix", a second spin for Dimitri From Paris's slightly breezier (but no less loved-up) re-edit and a boisterous funky house rework from the Shapeshifters that some may have missed first time around.

Baby Wants To Ride (Jimmy Edgar re-edit) (5:57)
Review: 2011 saw the launch of Frankie and long-time production partner Eric Kupper's 'Director's Cut' project, aiming to reproduce classic cuts from the godfather of house music's back catalogue to fit with the modern and evolving dancefloor. On his undisputed 1987 anthem " Baby Wants To Ride", Knuckles and Kupper have extended the intro and outro plus given it a crisper, more detailed feel to the overall production - while providing a subtle vibrancy to Jamie Principle's saucy vocals. On the flip, Detroit wunderkind Jimmy Edgar delivers a stomping re-edit of the track, which was originally a tribute release after Frankie's passing in 2014. The Frankie Knuckles Foundation will receive 50% of the profits from this project.

Your Love (Belocca & Soneec vocal dub)
Review: Almost 25 years after one of the most seminal records in house music was created, Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle, joined by Eric Kupper, revisit "Your Love" in style on this new release on Nocturnal Groove. Giving DJs a helping hand by adding a long beat-only intro, that much-copied opening arpeggio slowly reveals itself and is joined by a new, replayed bassline and updated pads. The new vocals sound just as magnificent as you'd hope too, making this a very worthwhile revisit and a fresh overhaul of one of the cornerstones of dance music. Flip over for a beefy Belocca & Soneec vocal dub.

Review: When anything with the name Frankie Knuckles is released, it's pretty much a guaranteed piece of gold. This can definitely be said about "I'll Take You There" featuring remixes from The Shapeshifters and Dimitri From Paris on reputable label Nocturnal Groove. A-Side Director's Cut Classic Signature Mix is deep, soulful and expertly produced with sultry vocals from the legendary Jamie Principle alongside smooth instrumentation and layering. Much like everything Frankie Knuckles has ever done, "I'll Take You There" is a timeless house record with no limitations. Remix wise, The Shapeshifters sharpen the groove into a dancefloor belter and strip away the vocals, while Dimitri retains the low slung house vibe from the original while adding a modern touch to its classic feel.

Review: As the four-year anniversary of Frankie Knuckles' death approaches, Trax has decided to reissue Ultimate Production, a re-titled collection of some of his finest Chicago-era moments that first appeared (with a slightly different track list) in 1991. All of the Godfather of House's early must-have cuts are present - think "Your Love", "Baby Wants To Ride", "It's a Cold World" and "Waiting on an Angel" - alongside a smattering of lesser-celebrated gems and his essential remixes of Dancer's "Boom Boom" and Kevin Irving's "Children of the Night". Crucially, this time round they've decided to stretch the tracks across two slabs of wax rather than one, allowing for louder re-mastered cuts.

Review: Frankie Knuckles collaborated with Eric Kupper for many years, but it was arguably only when they joined forces as Director's Cut, late in the Godfather of House's lengthy career, that the most musical magic happened. This excellent compilation of Director's Cut productions and remixes- the third to date remixes - offers further proof of this assertion. Full of colourful, tactile, classic-sounding house in the typical Knuckles mode, the collection's many highlights include a soulful, sing-along interpretation of Inaya Day and Duane Harden's 'Good Feeling', the piano-smothered brilliance of Peyton's 'Beautiful', a wonderfully shuffling, organ-rich rendition of Marko Militano's 'Good People' and a simply sublime, glassy-eyed take on Vintage Lounge Orchestra's memorable cover of Fleetwood Mac classic 'Dreams'.

This epic retrospective gathers together the best tracks and remixes the duo completed prior to Knuckles' death in 2014. Disc one offers up original productions, including ear-catching re-makes of some of Knuckles' most famous early works (we're particularly fond of the versions of "The Whistle Song", "Your Love" and "I'll Take U There"). On the second disc you'll find the best of their remix work, with standouts including a sublime take on Candi Staton's "Hallelujah Anyway" and a storming, previously unreleased version of Lou Rawls' "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine". As a bonus, the third disc mixes the best of the lot together in one suitably gorgeous, non-stop journey.

Leading the way is the Hotel Motel's tweak of "It's A Cold Cold World" from Frankie Knuckles which hogs the A Side at twelve minutes long and should be filed under "late night weapon". On the flip you get the lysergic intensity of Bleepfunk's raw Acid Sweatbox mix of "Fantasy Girl" from Pierre's Fantasy Club which is notable for the fuzzy analogue hue it accrues as it pounds along, a nice dovetail for the crisper sounding kaleidoscopic pump of Leftside Wobble's revision of Master C & J.

Frankie Knuckles presents Director's Cut - "I'll Take You There" (feat Jamie Principle - Director's Cut classic signature mix)
Review: There have been plenty of tributes to sadly departed house legend Frankie Knuckles, but this is the first true retrospective of his work. It's a fitting tribute, with Defected choosing to focus largely on his classic '80s and '90s work, sneaking in only a few later hits (see the Director's Cut anthem "I'll Take You There" and a storming remix of Hercules & Love Affair's "Blind"). As you'd expect, all the familiar staples are present - "The Whistle Song", "Tears", "Baby Wants To Ride" etc. - alongside lauded remixes (classic reworks of Loose Ends and Chaka Khan, in particular) and a smattering of previously unreleased gems (check the piano-laden revision of Pet Shop Boys' "Left To My Own Devices").

Review: Recent reissues of early Chicago house tracks have offered a neat reminder of Frankie Knuckles' production skills. Now, in case we doubted his ability to keep churning out twinkling house hits, Nocturnal Groove have invited him to curate a double CD featuring many of his recent tracks and remixes under the Director's Cut moniker. Knuckles' sound - soulful, warm, expansive and undoubtedly classic - still resonates, even it has barely changed in the last two decades. For those who enjoy it, Tales Beyond The Tone Arm should be essential listening. There are nods to his past - remixes of classics such as "Your Love" and "The Whistle Song", a cover of Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" - alongside a string of unreleased tracks.

Review: The legacy of Frankie Knuckles will never diminish even if releases like this one day eventually dry up. Forever regarded as 'The Godfather of House' it is now almost a decade since his passing. In his prolific career he hooked up with Eric Kupper many times as Director's Cut and this is a collection of their best works. It's full of house classics that have all been remixed by their fair hand, from 'Your Love" (feat Jamie Principle) to 'The Whistle Song' via 'I'll Take You There', all of which are spine tingling emotional deep house anthems that never lose their shine.

Jay Denes, Ada Dyer - "You Make Me Whole" (Joey Negro Rhodes dub) (5:17)
Julian Sanza - "To Love" (5:16)
Frankie Knuckles, Satoshi Tomiie, Andrea Mendez - "Bring Me Love" (Eventual dub) (6:56)
Review: Some serious no-nonsense house grooves for all true-school DJs to cop, dug out from the annals of club music history. Things kick off good and proper with Joey Negro's insanely powerful "Dub Groove" mix of Lenny Fontana's "A Place Called Heaven". Negro's on the buttons once again with the classic, pumping "Rhodes Dub" of "You Make Me Whole" by Jay Denes and Ada Dyer. On the flip, Julian Sanza drops the squelchy boogie inflected "To Love" before the record ends on a serious bang with the dream team of Frankie Knuckles, Satoshi Tomiie and Andrea Mendez's "Bring Me Love (Eventual Dub)". This is as actual house as actual house can get - the real deal, crystalised in four evergreen gems pressed on one handy record.

Kenny Summit, Frankie Knuckles & Eric Kupper - "Loving You" (feat Yasmeen) (6:50)
Review: Apparently made in tribute to the legendary Paradise Garage club some years ago, these two previously unreleased workouts are the work of Kenny Summit, Eric Kupper and the late, great Frankie Knuckles. Side A boasts the trio's near legendary (and previously unavailable) remix of Lou Rawls classic "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine". It's a wonderfully positive and life-affirming affair, with the three legendary producers wrapping echoing guitars, warming disco orchestration and Rawls' sublime lead vocal around a deliciously percussive Afro-house groove. The flip features another unseen and unheard gem from the vaults: a loose, groovy and positive soulful house wiggler featuring the seductive vocals of Yasmeen. Terrific stuff.

Virgo 4 - "Take Me Higher" (Ray Mang remix)
Adonis - "No Way Back" (Greg Wilson edit)
Master C & J - "Dub Love" (Mark Broom retouch)
Frankie Knuckles & Jamie Principle - "Baby Wants To Ride" (Bubba & T Bone's Still Believing re-edit)
Review: The fourth round of vinyl samplers for DJ History's Trax edit redux kicks off in sterling fashion with Ray Mang's edit of "Take Me Higher" from Virgo 4 retaining the forward thinking aesthetic of the original but naturally adding some trademark squiggles, wiggles and effects that lend the track a truly soaring sensation. Greg Wilson is perhaps a smart choice to take on "No Way Back", no doubt having been astounded by the track fully showcasing the potential of the 808 drum machine upon hearing back in the late 80s. As with the majority of edits included, Wilson wisely restricts himself to tightening up the rubbery bass and surfeit of drum kicks to give the track a contemporary sheen. On the flip Mark Broom's stripped back take on Master C&J's "Dub Love" was actually prepped for white label release before the veteran producer got wind of the Harmless initiative and thus his smart rasping acid techno re -imagination is given a proper home!
