Review: After previous outings on this label as well as Joule, American Camelia take charge of the fifth EP from Fake Society and does so with a superb late night mood. His grooves are sleek, futuristic, and glow with soft neon hues as pads glide by like long-tailed headlights on a rainy motorway drive deep into the darkness. The drums are always supple carriages on which you ride in sheer comfort, with deft melodic motifs colouring in the spaces left behind. Cristi Cons serves up a typically classy remix of deep techno minimalism that is heady and hypnotic. This is a warm, comforting EP that oozes style and class throughout.

Forerunner EP

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Forerunner (8:18)
  2. Milagro (7:57)
  3. Burner (8:28)
  4. Burner (Arapu remix) (9:24)
Review: Rising star Camelia has yet to put a foot wrong since kicking off Botanic Minds' excellent Sunset Series in the autumn of 2017. The American producer followed that up with solid EPs on Sports Records and RORA, and here kicks off 2019 in confident fashion. He kicks things off via the undulating deep space electronics, chunky analogue bass and rolling tech-house beats of "Forerunner", before exploring deeper pastures on the lilting late night dancefloor bliss of "Milagro", where echoing piano riffs drift across a starry-eyed soundscape. Side B is all about "Burner", with Camelia's spacey, Motor City-influenced tech-house original version coming accompanied by a bolder, chunkier and acid-flecked remix by Arapu.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Camelia - "Transferring" (8:45)
  2. Macarie - "Flu" (7:57)
  3. Exander - "Odyssey" (7:46)
  4. Lulla - "Distort Time" (7:30)
Review: The first release of Default introduced us to emergent players in the minimal tech field such as Exander and Rojid, and they're at it again with the fresh faces on part two. Exander makes a welcome return on the B-side with the moody "Odyssey", but there's also sparkling new dubwise immersions from Camelia and crafty micro-disco from Macarie to lose yourself in. Lulla turns in one of the most interesting cuts on the record, using a densely packed rhythm section and a smattering of sample slices to create a dynamic club track full of inventive energy.

  2. Camelia - "Protostar" (7:55)
  3. Sublee - "Found Jazz" (9:26)
  4. Los Bastoneros - "La Joaca" (8:32)
Review: Miami-based label Fake Society return with their third release, this time a various artist EP featuring four servings of sublime minimal tech house - all rolling, ethereal and as hypnotic as you like! They haven't been shy either, tapping some of the scene's biggest names at present such as Romanian heroes like Lizz (who provides the mesmerising Sunday afternoon bliss of "Destruct") or Bucharest wunderkind Sublee - sounding a bit different than usual on the breakbeat driven "Found Jazz". In between is label boss Camelia on the bass-driven groove of "Protostar". On the flip, ascendant producer Los Bastoneros delivers the blissed-out dub of "La Joaca".
