Review: Al 'Alphonso' Campbell was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and soon went on to become a core part of the first generations of dancehall artists. He was a prolific vocalist who served up his first album in 1977 and kept on recording well into the new millennium. He made 36 albums in all and 1978's No More Running, originally in Terminal, is up there with the best of them. It featured Sly on drums, Robbie Shakespeare on bass and Tommy McCook on tenor saxophone along with a host of other talents. The rhythms hit hard, and the socio-political lyrics are no less impactful.

Review: One of the vital voices amongst the first wave of dancehall artists to come out of Jamaica, Al 'Alphonso' Campbell was a Kingston native with his own unique sound. He turned out as many as 36 albums starting the late seventies and mow a bunch of them are getting reissued. Burning Sounds serve up this nice heavyweight red version of Rainy Days from 1978 which originally came on Hawkeye. As with many of his albums, this is a record defined by great song-smithery and nice tough rhythms. A real classic and must-have for any discerning reggae lover's collection.
