Felicific Algorithim (limited 12" + poster)
Cat: CSR 240LP. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. Track 1 (13:42)
  2. Track 2 (11:39)
Review: Although Corrupted is being trailed as a "mysterious Japanese doom metal band formed in 1994", the label credits suggest it's actually the work of long-serving industrial producer Martin Bowes (previously a member of such forthright combos as Attrition, Pigface and Engram). "Felicific Algorithim" is an intensely uncomfortable and mind-altering affair, where sampled screams and redlined white noise rise above the distortion-splattered doom of the aggressive and twisted backing track. The 13-minute A-side version is, in many ways, terrifying in its disconcerting and fragmented approach, while the flipside, a kind of dark ambient version based around foreboding held notes and barely audible vocal samples, sounds like the work of lauded noisenik Dominick Fenrow.

Dego & The 2000 Black Family (12" 再プレス)
Cat: NERO 028T. Rel: 19 Mar 18
Deep House
  1. Don't Stop (Let It Go) (feat Izzi Dunn) (7:18)
  2. Save It Til Later (4:49)
Review: Assisted by long-time studio partner Kaidi Tatham, former 4 Hero man Dego's been on fire of late, delivering killer singles - and a fine album - for the likes of Eglo and Rush Hour. Here he pops up on Neroli again with more superb, soul-flecked dancefloor fare. "Don't Stop (Let It Go)" is particularly potent, offering a disco and jazz-funk influenced chunk of celebratory deep house laden with thrilling live instrumentation from members of "the 2000 Black family" (Tatham and others, basically). He completely flips the script on "Save It Till Later", a refreshingly rough and ready chunk of bass-heavy, acid-flecked house/techno fusion that benefits greatly for some particularly warped electronics. Darkness and light on one 12"; what's not to like?

Find A Way (12" 再プレス)
Cat: NERO 025T. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. Find A Way
  2. The Hurt
  3. Sunshine
Review: Yes! A brilliant induction into the Neroli annals of fame for Mr Dego and his 200 Black crew; joining the likes of Domu and Nubian Mindz in adding some classic bruk boogie perspective to Volcov's long running label. There's numerous reasons to check this triple hitting Find A Way plate, not least the title cut where Dego teams up with Akwasi and Kaidi Taiham, with the latter offering up a rare turn on vocals as opposed to manning the keys; the results are sublime and soul enriched boogie which offers a nice contrast with the deeper, rolling bump of "The Hurt". The amazing Bembe Segue turns up on "Sunshine" with Dego and crew wisely taking a step back to let her take centre stage.

Deep House
  1. Come To Me (6:24)
  2. Come To Me (Folamour Lost In Eden remix) (6:39)
  3. Take (5:14)
  4. Feel Me (feat Ladybird) (5:26)
Review: Fresh from the recent release of his killer Vinum 12" on Let's Play House, Salzburg sort Bernard Weiss brings his Demuja project to Madhouse for the very first time. The EP is headed up by "Come To Me", a rubbery chunk of classic deep house rich in saucer-eyed vocal samples, lilting Rhodes chords, bustling stabs and crunchy machine drums. Folamour's accompanying remix naturally pushes the track further towards warm and woozy deep house territory - via the box marked "glassy-eyed late night positivity" - before Demuja unfurls two fantastic bonus cuts. Of the pair, it's "Take", a tribute to early New Jersey deep house rich in buzzing synth-sax and memorable chord progressions, that arguably hits home hardest.

Deep House
  1. House Party (6:43)
  2. I Luv (7:29)
  3. House Party (Cinthie remix) (6:46)
  4. Move (6:11)
Review: It is over to Danish producer Brian Desos Logstrup aka Desos now, for the fourth edition on Slow Down - following up some great ones by the likes of DJ Aakmael and The Nathaniel X Project. "House party" is an emotive, swing-fuelled groove that has already received great feedback from dancefloors across the world. The sultry deepness of "I Luv" takes it cues from classic Kenny Dixon Jr. while "Move" gets dusty and hypnotic on you in style. The release now comes with an added remix from the girl who is everywhere right now - Berlin based Cinthie of Beste Modus fame. We enjoyed her sexy and bumpin' rendition as much as the original in fact.

Drum And Bass
  1. So Be It, Lumbricina (5:40)
  2. Dooky (6:48)
  3. So Be It, Lumbricina (Rognvald remix) (7:01)
Review: After drifting between labels for over a decade, dgoHn (the recording alias of veteran drum and bass producer John Cunnane) seems to have found a settled home. This is his third EP for Love Love Records since 2016, and something of a retro-futurist treat. A-side "So Be It, Lumbricina" craftily combines the enveloping dreaminess and melodious positivity of early Good Looking Records style liquid funk with the bustling, Amen break-driven, sharply edited rhythmic swing of vintage jungle. Cunnane goes deeper on "Dooky", wrapping spooky aural textures and razor-sharp sub bass around hot-steppin' beats, before Rognvald gives "So Be It, Lumbricina" the dark and moody jungle treatment.

  1. Freeform (clubmix) (8:31)

  3. Loots For A (Esomix) (11:06)
Review: 'With love from Aarhus from two 'Brisbabes' (that's in their words). New imprint Esoteric Exports out of Australia arrive with their inaugural release, courtesy of Natal Zaks: who has made an enormous contribution to the Danish house scene with his own releases as Central (among several other projects) and the Help Recordings imprint. The Eso EP features classic deep house grooves, like that of "Freeform" (clubmix) with its tough bounce supported by emotive elements and lush celestial synths, while the funked-up hi-tech soul of "Loots For A" (clubmix) will surely appeal to fans of Detroit sounds. Its second Esomix featured on the flip ventures deep into the Amazon rainforest with its syncopated tribal rhythms, but maintains the fat low end rumble of the original - and not to mention those mesmerizing pan pipes.

Review: Last spotted on Warp on the inaugural volume of their Cargaa series in 2015, Nigga Fox returns to the UK institution with his debut label EP "Cranio". As always with the Lisbon underground kingpin, fusion and ardent experimentalism characterise the project as we're shifted and beguiled in equal measure at the rising paranoid acid tendrils on "Sinistro", the thumping obese kicks on "Poder Do Vento", the jarring techno necksnap of "Maria Costa", the lucid dreaminess of "KRK", the obscenely tripped-out voodoo instrumentation on "Waaba-Jah" and accordion squeezing technoid sketch "Karma". Singular.

  3. DJ Technician - "Je Weet Toch" (4:28)
  4. DJ Technician - "It's Nokoman" (6:13)
Review: Two of Holland's fiercest electro gonna, DJ Overdose and DJ Technician, are back on our charts with an equally ferocious twelve inch that marks the start of the RotterHague imprint. Just in time, it seems. Aside from Detroit's long dynasty of electro, these two have been waving the flag for Europe, always coming through with killer grooves and mean, lean disposition that makes the certified kings! DJ Overdose's two bombs, "Meltdown Is Imminent" and "We All Have Bloody Thoughts", are proper club burners, guided by strong rhythms that make them accessible to the techno DJs, as well as the house heads. On the flip, the Technician rolls out another two fiery stormers, with "Je Weet Toch" providing the trap vibes, and "It's Nokoman" unleashing the sci-fi cinematics through eerie, breathtaking synths. Dutty.

Review: Melbourne based retroverts Dormir present two great tracks, that merge classic synth pop sensibilities with electro influences on the sweltering "In Pursuit" while the sensual and darkly romantic "Rendezvous" allows the singer's performance to shine through - sounding quite like Robert Smith. On the flip, there's some top remixes by some of Sydney's hottest producers - Cop Envy (Templar Sound) delivers a seething electro bass perspective reminiscent of Dynamic II, while Leo James (who some of you may remember as part of Canyon's on DFA a while back) remains respectful to the original of "In Pursuit" but provides a bit more dancefloor dynamic on his Greyscale mix.

Morena (7")
Cat: FBBRG 005. Rel: 19 Mar 18
  1. Morena (4:02)
  2. The Vibes (feat Ephniko) (3:55)
Review: Afro-Carribean Latin fusionists Empresarios have been doing their thing with modest success since the turn of the decade, serving up albums and singles that cleverly combine elements of cumbia, reggae, salsa, hip-hop, dub and house. Here they appear on 7" for the very first time, serving up two typically steamy slabs of ear-pleasing dancefloor fusion for the Virginia-based Boogieburg imprint. While stoned Latin hip-hop flipside "The Vibes" is undoubtedly a cheeky, cheery and quietly impressive affair, it's A-side "Morena" that hits home hardest. Sitting somewhere between electro-cumbia, salsa and skanking Latin pop, it's a full-force blast of sunshine that will sound particularly potent at outdoor parties in the summer months ahead.

Review: Adam Feingold once again dons the Ex Terrestrial alias, this time for an outing on box fresh Canadian imprint NAFF. He's in a typically melodious and glassy-eyed mood on the A-side, where "Portal Living (Kali)" and "Portal Living (Plain)" provide two contrasting takes on the producer's warm and wavy interpretation of early Italian dream house. "Vanilight (Re-Zoned)" sounds like his tactile take on obscure bleep pioneers DJ Martin and DJ Homes' brilliant (but little-known) bass-heavy remixes of Man Machine's "Animal", while closer "2DS" is a kaleidoscopic slice of deep musical bliss that sits somewhere between original New Jersey deep house and the turn-of-the-'90s Soul II Soul sound.

Review: Tolga Fidan is seemingly on a roll of late, but in truth he's always remained committed to his process as a refined minimal maestro. His move to Finale Sessions may seem to be a step outside his usual stomping grounds, and the sound on the EP reflects this. Whether the title Lost Tapes means this material is old or not is unclear, but there's certainly a rougher, hardware-sounding approach on this record compared to the stripped down clicks he built his name on. "SJ SX - Tape 01" is still reduced in all the right places, but it comes on like a live jam of deepest psych-out techno rather than anything overtly minimal. With warmth and personality pouring out of every bar, this is a wonderful insight into another side of a long serving and much loved producer.

Made with a deep understanding of soundscapes and pop culture, the musical language of Frischauf breathes a magical and melancholic vibe - that transfers itself into the subconscious of the listener, without any comment. Kicking off the A side in style is Full Take with the deep late night groove "You Got Me", while Steve Flurs take you deep into the exotic on "Putron". On the flip, the neon-lit jam by Harsh Mellow "Return Of The Funky Jam" will take you all the way back to the mid '80's (when Jamie Principle was all the rage) while The Pump Boys hand in a fine edit of The Pump Girls' 1989 hip-house jam "Get On It".
