Review: Brazilian guitarist Fabiano do Nascimento and American saxophonist Sam Gendel join forces for The Room: ten tracks of broken jazzdance instrumentals conjoined by an almost telepathic synergy between artists. Springboarding from an initial collaborative gig at a restaurant owned by Gendel's cousin, the duo was thus born as a before-you-know-it gestalt; and in so coming together as a studio project, the artists realised their mutually jazz-laden upbringings, discovering even that both saxophonists had first picked up the brass at exactly the same age; both shared a fascination with environmentalism and ecology; both were superfans of experimental musician Hermeto Pascoal; et cetera. A serendipitous match, then, the album is synchronous to match, balancing five tracks per side in a sublime homeo-ecstatic equilibrium. Recorded in two days in a basement studio in Pacific Palisades, each track its own dive into the rhythms and regions of a South America without borders.

Review: Violinist Nils Okland and keyboardist Sigbjorn Apeland have been working togeter on music for 30 years. Their work often explores a place where Norwegian traditional music and improvisation meet and this new album is another exceptional one full of touching and tender moods. Glimmer builds on the folk music traditions of the Haugalandet region of Western Norway and is built around original compositions that range from those written for a film about great Norwegian landscape painter Lars Hertevig, to pieces inspired by modernist composer Fartein Valen. Review: Panda Bear aka. Noah Lennox is best known for his formative membership of experimental pop surrealist troupe, Animal Collective. But the Panda Bear alias itself is nowadays of almost equal stature, similarly blending psychedelia, folk, electronic and ambient influences for further, less-restrained takes on the sound. Here on 'Reset In Dub', Lennox reunites with Peter Kember - a former member of the influential space rock band Spacemen 3 - and legendary dub producer Adrian Sherwood. In dubwise style, Sherwood comes through to remix all nine tracks on Lennox and Kember's prior collaborative LP Reset, amounting to a multi-layered, adventurous retake.

Review: Sad Lovers & Giants are a post-punk band from Watford, England who formed in 1980. The original lineup included vocalist Garce (Simon) Allard, guitarist Tristan Garel-Funk, bassist Cliff Silver, drummer Nigel Pollard and keyboardist/saxophonist David Wood. They released their first 3-song 7" EP "Cle" followed by the "Colourless Dream" single both in 1981 and "Lost In A Moment" 7" single in 1982. They released two studio albums, Epic Garden Music (1982) and Feeding the Flame (1983), before temporarily disbanding. In 2016, Dark Entries released Lost In A Sea Full of Sighs, a collection of the band's early work, but the record incorrectly included 1988 versions of the two songs from the "Lost In A Moment". For this repress, the tracklist has been corrected to include the original 1982 recordings of "Lost In A Moment" and "The Tightrope Touch".

Review: Saint Etienne's cult classic Good Humor marks its quarter-of-a-century anniversary with this special splatter vinyl reissue edition. It comes with the original artwork and inner sleeve that was used back in 1998 when it first dropped and it has aged fantastically well. The title is an intentional US spelling to kick back against the 'quintessentially English' tag the band often got given. It also found them leaving behind indie dance and serving up some extra acoustic and orchestral elements with plenty of synth-pop hooks and dance grooves.

Review: The fifth solo album by Japanese musician Shintaro Sakamoto, the former leader of psychedelic rock band Yura Yura Teikoku and later prolific solo musician, comes in the form of Like A Fable: a round-numbered compendium inspired by both international music styles and Sakamoto's isolation during the COVID lockdowns. This tension between local and regional makes for a well-rounded album; our fellow Brits might recall the cute and brassy productions of Jameszoo in it initially dreamy refrains, but things soon grow pretty characteristically Japanese, with 'You Still OK' providing an unmistakable Shibuya feel, which continues the charge from thereon. A meditation on isolated romance, the album ends on as funky a note as it began on, 'The Whereabouts Of Romance', which is its by far its most distinctive contribution and a beautifully slide-guitarred conclusion.
