Buju Banton - "Crazy Look Good"
Mitch - "Hey Girl"
Review: Original Underground Resistance member Robert Hood is a true icon in techno music, with releases on legendary imprints such as Tresor, Axis, Peacefrog, Logistic and his own label M-Plant. Hoodmusic 2 is the follow up to his 2005 debut on Music Man. 'Still Hear' is a typical Hood styled techno burner, oldschool minimal so to speak. We are very proud to be able to offer a remix by the legendary Los Hermanos on the B-side. 'School' might be the funkiest minimal techno cut we heard in years, pure dancefloor material! Wicked!! "Charted #3 this month" - Dave Clarke, "I'm happy Robert Hood is back with his early style. Now is the time to educate new crowd with this sound. Los Hermanos remix is also very nice, works smooth on the dancefloor." - Ken Ishii, "10/10 both Hood tracks are rocking. I put this release in my playlist." - Charles Siegling (Technasia), "10/10 when played in the right context. great release, future classic" - Pacou (Tresor, Music Man), "8/10 A1! straight in my box" - Gayle San, "8/10 At last some functional straight up loop hypnotic techno tracks. Always been a big fan of Hood's techno tracks. This 12" will stay in the box for a while. The B1 remix is nice, but I probably not gonna play this one." - Joel Mull, "6/10 Really nice EP, quite unusual funky" Dimi Angelis (ion): 8/10 Great record!" - Diego (Kanzleramt), "Loving this EP, particularly 'Still Hear'. Charting at number 2" - Ade Fenton.

Shiny New Car
Review: After wowing last year's Glastonbury audience from the Peel Stage (and winning the festival's Unsigned Bands competition!!), London 4-piece Mad Staring Eyes release crowd favourite "Walking In The Streets' as a limited edition 7". Sorry (feat Sway & Baby Blue)
Sorry
Review: The Nutty Boys return with a skanking Ska track on their own Lucky Seven imprint, featuring two of the UK's hottest hip-hop stars Sway and Baby Blue. Sway entered the picture when the Mobo winner declared himself a huge Madness fan in a television interview. Whilst devising his witty contribution to Suggs' own apologetic lyrics, Sway sensed the need for a female element to the song and duly enlisted Baby Blue to join the party.

Dangerously Close To Love (2:19)
Dangerously Close To Love (version) (2:17)
Review: Mal-one's sixth single looks to shine a light on a controversial garment by Malcolm Mclaren and Vivienne Westwood known as the Anarchy Shirt. The prototype was made on old stock of Wemblex shirts and Malcolm added quotes from revolutionist Durutti such as 'Dangerously Close To Love' and 'Only Anarchists Are Pretty.' They gave him inspiration for this tune which is the latest in a long line of edgy punk anthems from the artist who emerged from the West London scene and has since exhibited alongside the likes of Banksy, Goldie and Peter Blake.

You Don't Know Her Name (The Field remix)
Review: "You Don't Know Her Name" is taken from the debut Maps album "We Can Create" - a hugely ambitious, widescreen and epic record that recalls everything from the far away electronics of Basic Channel and Carl Craig, through the skewed songwriting of Postal Service, Flaming Lips and Grandaddy to the euphoric soundscapes of Sigur Ros and My Bloody Valentine.

London Town
She's Changed
Failure
Tap At My Window
Review: The third release on the ultra-hot Way Out West label is by Laura Marling. She may be young, but she certainly isn't dumb. The 17-year-old small-town girl - from Eversely, just outside Reading - doesn't just sing about love, lust and romance but of the futility of religion, self-loathing and human psychology. An alt-folk star in the ascendant, whose striking melodies and wise-beyond-her-years vocals could melt even the iciest of hearts, Laura Marling muddles the strength of Regina Spektor with the intelligence of Carole King and the acoustic lushness of Joni Mitchell. She began playing the guitar at the age of three, first being taught the blues by her father in front of the family fire, and has been in thrall to the songs and lyrics of the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and John Mayall ever since. "The London Town" is a great release.

Soul Love
Review: Cerys Matthews makes an eagerly-anticipated return to the fray on August 21st with the Rough Trade release of her second solo album 'Never Said Goodbye'. The follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut solo album 'Cockahoop' from 2003 was produced by Stuart Sikes (The White Stripes, The Walkmen), Ben Elkins (Heypenny) and Cerys Matthews and mixed by Jeremy Ferguson (Josh Rouse, Be Your Own Pet).
The release of 'Never Said Goodbye' will be preceded by the release of a single - 'Open Roads'. The single includes exclusive tracks 'Open Roads edit', a cover of the David Bowie classic 'Soul Love', and cover of Rough Trade label mates The Decemberists' 'Grace Cathedral Hill'.
Cerys will also be touring the UK for the first time in three years in support of 'Never Said Goodbye'.

Come Write Me Down
Review: A folk super group inspired by everyone from Penguin Café Orchestra to Dr Dre that brings percussion and drive and a contemporary twist to the traditional understanding of what folk's all about. Penned by Chic's Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards, and famously covered by Carly Simon, a newly-arranged version of the classic song, "Why" introduces The Memory Band prior to the release of their album, "Apron Strings". "Come Write Me Down" drafts in Adem alongside main band members, Stephen Cracknell , Nancy Wallace and Jennymay Logan (Elysian Quartet).

Review: Whilst currently working on their new album, Metronomy get set to re-release a 7", "Radio Ladio", through label of the moment, Because Music. Metronomy (Joseph Mount) is an electronic artist, originally from Devon. Live, Joseph is joined by Gabriel Stebbing (bass guitar/keys/hand claps/funny dances) and Oscar Cash (melodica/lead keys/saxophone/hand claps/funny dances). Since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album "Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)", the London based three piece have been busy garnering a word of mouth/in-the know fanbase, fast becoming a favourite with the likes of The Klaxons, CSS, Justice, Bloc Party and Kate Nash.

Head Home
Roscoe (acoustic version)
Review: 'Head Home' is the third single from Midlake's stunning second album, 'The Trials of Van Occupanther'. It will be available only on limited edition coloured 7", making it a must-own for any Midlake fan. 'Head Home' is perhaps the most classic rock track on the album, drawing obvious influences from bands such as Fleetwood Mac, whilst also retaining an undeniable Midlake feel. To top it off, the B-side of this record is a spectacular acoustic version of the album's lead track and previous single, 'Roscoe'. The past few months have seen Midlake become one of the most talked-about and critically-acclaimed acts of 2006. The band's rapidly-growing fanbase includes the likes of the Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire, Jason Lyttle, Beck, Paul Weller and Jason Lee... 'The Trials of Van Occupanther' was released in June to a chorus of fantastic reviews: "This unimpeachable record is a part-pastoral, part-rock curiosity, with trace elements of Neil Young, America and Grandaddy. All exquisitely sung and played, and as with Sufjan Stevens' 'Illinoise', we're dealing with an invigorating, many-faceted work of diverse instrumentation and durability." MOJO - 4 Stars "The full cream harmonies recall CSNY in their early pomp... Much of is sounds like the spiritual cousin on Neil Young's 'After The Goldrush' and 'Harvest', sharing the same back-to-nature rusticity" Uncut - 4 Stars "'The Trials Of Van Occupanther' is a bona fide classic, a record that unites Mercury Rev-styled psyche eccentricity with smooth rock'n'soul. Out on the ever-inspiring Bella Union, its very existence makes the world seem a better place". NME

Review: Four years on from the first Moonlighting party in Oslo, sometime Full Pupp producer Oyvind Morken has decided to launch a label of the same name. He handles the first 7", showcasing his love of all things humid, tropical and otherworldly on "Jungle Erotikk". It's something of an aural treat, with marimba melodies dancing over a metronomic, rolling dancefloor groove. Everything about it is lush and Balearic, as you might expect. The same could be said for flipside "Exter", which sounds like a White Isle-friendly take on classic alternative new wave - all heady synthesizers, lolloping machine drums and saucer-eyed intent.

Review: Every self-respecting Martian Casanova wants to roll with Moxo and his crew. After all, it's not every day you get to meet a real live laboratory escapee in the flesh. What should have been a routine space walk became a close encounter with the next world when Max Cole's connection cable snapped and he was left drifting through the infinite sea of stars. However, spotted by an enterprising DNA code programmer working at the Institute of Intergalactic Jazz, he was subjected to a programme of radiation to the soundtrack of Drexciya, Glenn Jones and Cedric Im Brooks. The end result was some cosmic p-funk lover type shit, and came to be dubbed Moxo Tengu. It was soon apparent that the Institute couldn't hold him, and Moxo danced his way past the laboratory guards to start the rest of his new life breakin' across the universe.

The Imaeur Show
Review: It's been over three years since the release of Mum's last album "Summer Make Good", and a lot of water has passed under the bridge. And now finally, everything at once; a new single, album, a smattering of dates over the Summer months, and tour dates all over the world beginning in Autumn. "They Made Frogs Smoke Til They Exploded" is the first fruits of their labour to be unveiled, a chirpy song about animal cruelty. "The Amateur Show", on the flip-side, is according to the band, a wonky insect-circus instrumental.

Stain Goddess
Review: Formed just one year ago, this London three piece have gained a loyal following through their raucous live shows and talent for writing catchy hooks. Already there have been much loved appearances at Manchester's In The City, London's Death Disco, and nights at Drowned In Sound and Playlouder amongst others. This group are a stripped down rock 'n' roll act reminding us of Dinosaur Jr and Royal Trux in particular, but have also had comparisons to such a variety as David Bowie, Butthole Surfers and even The Toxic Twin days of Aerosmith. Now's the time for their cracking debut single, released as a limited seven inch release on Dell'Orso Records; it's an uplifting tale of bad health, laziness and paranoia ("Chewing Gum") whilst on the flip side ("Stain Goddess") is their three minute ode to a John Waters film plot. Both will stick in your minds as only the finest infectious pop does.

Review: This is a limited edition teaser sampler from the ''Steak'' OST, the first feature film by Quentin Dupieux (aka Mr Oizo). This original project is the result of the collaboration between Mr Oizo, Sebastian and Sebastien Tellier. Mr Oizo is famous for his electronic-saturated, deranged nursery rhymes, whose planetary hit single "Flat Beat" illustrated the Levi’s ad campaign of 1999. Sebastian, considered for the past three years as the most talented producers of his generation, has done remixes for Kelis, Daft Punk, Mylo, the Rakes and the Klaxons. Sebastien Tellier is a troubadour that has contributed to the re-birth of French pop, creating a very personal universe influenced equally by traditional "Chanson Française" and by film scores from the sixties and seventies. This is a top notch Because Music release.
