Review: This is another reissue of a record that remains an ongoing favourite. Original Gravity delivered again with the original pressing featuring two unique versions of 'Burning Spear'. Nestor Alvarez opens with a lively, Latin-inspired rendition filled with fluttering flute melodies, raw drum beats and vibrant dancing keys that radiate sunny energy. On the flip, La Machine D'Argent takes a more cosmic approach, smoothing the vibe and layering spaced-out sounds for a dreamy, immersive journey. This release showcases Original Gravity's knack for reimagining funk with flair by offering two distinct yet equally good takes on a timeless groove.

Review: Across four artists and four versions, Original Gravity present 'Woolly Bully', a woollen repackaging of the longtime Sam Sham & The Pharoahs classic. Laid down in 1964, this terpsichorean prancer kept to a 12-bar blues progression, and made for the first American record to sell a million copies during the storied British Invasion. Its mixture of skiffly British rock and Mexican-American conjunto was an intentional blend, and a succesful one at that. Its enduring impact is now felt in these rollicking cover versions from Junior Dell, Donnoya Drake, Luchito & Nestor Alvarez and Curtis Baker, all roomy, costume vintage retrofits of the original. Listen closely to the lyrics for strange talk of a mythical creature: the original song's lyrics were so strange that some radio stations banned it for fear of popular befuddlement.

Review: More nostalgic but on-point fare from producer Neil Anderson and his Original Gravity label, this time via an ultra-limited seven-inch single featuring two fuzzy slabs of revivalist rhythm and blues. The Labrats kick things off via a righteous and occasionally raucous cover of John Lee Hooker classic 'Boom Boom', where gnarled, Chuck Berry style guitar solos and gravelly vocals rise above a tooled-up but nevertheless faithful rendition of the much-loved song. Over on the flip, Curtis Baker and the Bravehearts breeze their way through a bluesy Anderson original, the slow-motion R&B grooves, razor-sharp blues guitars and extended organ solos of 'Midnight in Memphis'.

Review: More heat here from Original Gravity with 'The Harlem Bugalu' from Luchito and Joaquin Marquez. This is a 7" that soon transports you to boogaloo paradise with its feverish Latin grocers and non-stop drum funk. The A-side is laden with spoken words, zippy percussive sounds and mad bongo bubbles with lashing of horn-led exuberance. Flip it over and you will find the slightly darker and more menacing energy of Joaquin Marque's 'Mala Mania'. Get your shake on and drop this one this summer for swift dancefloor explosions.

Review: Continuing their mission to retrouve genres across the spectrums of Latin funk and cumbia, Original Gravity welcome back founding favourites Luchito and Nestor Alvarez with yet another sonic vitamin D pill, presaging the warmer days to soon come. Both sides tap into that rich 60s and 70s Afro-Carib crossover sound, with, at least on the face of it, no studio trickery in earshot (though careful listens reveal the method behind the majesty). Anyone with a weakness for brass-led Latin burner will melt on contact with this one.

Review: Following up their first edition of the comp, Original Gravity Records here offer up the second instalment of the Latin Fever series, charting the talents of many underappreciated Cuban artists - or at least, so it seems. In reality, the artists 'Luchito' and 'Nestor Alvarez' don't exist; they're deft fabrications of personality, envisaged by OG label boss Neil Anderson, who aims for a pitch-perfect emulation of Cuban salsa music and fusion. In gathering every instrument, musician and lo-fi aspect of production, it's a feat he impressively achieves: Luchito's two tracks are both move-on-up Latin heaters (listen closely, and you'll realise they're perfectly on-grid for club play). The Alvarez tunes are no less energetic, although the B-side closer 'El Relojero' is a particularly cool slower jam, with blue noted Hammond organs and trumpets nailing a rumbling rumba.

'Tighten Up' actually couldn't be any tighter. The drums prickle as they race along with breezy sung-spoken vocals up top and big horn work that will liven up any party. On the reverse is a more distinctly samba-styled tune with rich bossa rhythms, plenty of golden percussion and expressive horn work lighting up the grooves. It might be cold outside these days, but it will be warm inside with this one playing.

Review: Original Gravity serves up cause for lift-off once again with a red hot new Latin-tinged funk 7" from Luchito and Nestor Alvarez. They take one tune each with Luchito going first. The driving drums and big horn stabs of 'Feed Me Good' are joined by some more sultry trumpet solos while the fiery vocals add fuel to the flames. On the flip side, Nestor Alvarez's 'Lechon Y Maduros' is a heavy percussive workout with tons of piano rolls and big horns over a restless beat that shimmies and sways endlessly.

Review: A stellar mix of DJ-able breakbeat and northern soul from Luchito Rodriguez and Nestor Alvarez, two of our favourite contemporary funk artists active today (as long as we're certain of their identities, that is). This limited 7" contains two versions of the same killer track: 'Soy Un Hombre' reincarnates the triumphant 'achievement' of manhood through carnal brasses and kettle drums, in a quiver-inducing cover version of Spencer Davis Group's classic track 'I'm A Man'.

Review: The Original Gravity label is dedicated to unearthing deep cover gems from across a world of funky grooves, and this time they're turning their attention to the work of Luchito and Nestro Alvarez. 'Fortune Teller' is a big beat 60s-style Latin stomper with more soul than a shoe shop, all tumbling drums and punchy brass. 'Para Que?' takes things in a smokier direction, letting the piano lead the way while holding down a tight groove that should go down smooth as silk on a jazz-minded dancefloor.

Review: London-based funk-mongers Original Gravity serve up some serious Latin heat from the mighty Luchito and Nestor Alvarez. Both artists were last on the label earlier this year for the Latin Fever Vol. 2 single, and now they're back with more life-affirming bursts of funk. Luchito takes up the A side with two tracks - 'Broasted Or Toasted' is a cool-as-you-like bit of jazzy beatdown with some sweet flute, while 'Hey Guajira Baby' is a singalong anthem rendered in the sweetest salsa tones. Alvarez is on the flip with the pattering bongo magic of 'Bang The Bongo Side' and the heavy groove of 'Lupita', which sounds like it's packed with deadly breaks for those who still like a little crate digging.

Review: Original Gravity, Luchito Rodriguez and Nestor Alvarez return with yet two more Latin groove versions of funk and soul classics, emulating two sounds not yet brought together enough. 'Dap Walk' is a shot-by-shot cover of the song of the same name by Ernie And The Top Notes - a slick and slippery interpretation that translates the original AAVE of the song's intro into Spanish. 'El Barrio', meanwhile, opts for 70s crime thriller vibes, instrumentally verging on expressionism via djembe, brass sections and vibraslaps.

Review: Latin Fever Vol. 3 offers a vibrant collection of tracks from Luchito & Nestor, as well as solo efforts by Nestor Alvarez (a.k.a. Neil Anderson). Luchito & Nestor's rendition of The Olympics' 'Good Lovin' kicks things off with a blistering Latin boogaloo twist, featuring infectious rhythms and lively brass. The instrumental Part 2 replaces lead vocals with a dynamic flute topline, adding a fresh layer to the classic hit. Review: "Here we go again, yeah!" exclaim Luchito Rodriguez and Nestor Alvarez - Original Gravity's two core mainstays - who team up once again to evoke the undeniable spirit of a 'Boogaloo Party' for the ages. Channelling the sound of the inimitable Latin dance style, but also gradating it so as to be mixable in DJ sets, 'Ain't Nothing But...' delivers compelling call-and-responses and horn-swelling builds. It is another choice reissue that has been dug carefully out of the vaults and comes in seriously limited quantities on 7". Luchito & Nestor kick off with the original version of 'Tighten Up' on the a-side and it's packed with high-tempo breaks and sung-spoken vocals.
