Horror Games (3:43)
Horror Games (instrumental) (3:41)
Review: Teddy Powell and Zee Desmondes are The Jack Moves, a contemporary disco and hip hop outfit who here link with unknown newbies The People Of Newark and Larry Hamm for this tidy new 7" on Star Creature. 'Horror Games' has a squelchy synth bass line that carries the loose drum work and bustling methane of background vocals and found sounds. A lead singer takes charge up top as various chatting crowds play out in the background. It's a busy tune that also comes as an instrumental for those who prefer the focus to be on the well crafted drums and bass.

Junior Kelly - "Jewel Of The Nile" (3:23)
Liggo - "Too Bad Mind" (3:20)
Review: Jamaican label Fat Eyes is dropping a whole bunch of crucial new 7"s this month. This one kicks off with Junior Kelly on 'Jewel Of The Nile.' It's a full flavour and fresh dance hall track with big and funky drum patterns finished off with his fresh work on the mic. Flip it over and you will find the same rhythm track but this time decorated with a new vocal courtesy of Liggo on 'Too Bad Mind.' He seems tense and upset as he snarls out the bars over the punchy kicks.

In A Station
Review: "Three More Days", by Ray LaMontagne, is taken from his critically acclaimed album "Till The Sun Turns Black". The b-side is Ray's breathtaking version of The Band's "In A Station", recorded live at The Union Chapel in 2006. This is an amazing 14th floor release.

Burn (live)
Review: 14th Floor Records release the breathtaking 'Trouble' (new radio mix) by acclaimed songwriter Ray LaMontagne on July 24th 2006 on CD and collector's gatefold, coloured & limited edition 7 inch, complete with poster. 'Trouble' was written by Ray and produced by the gifted, single-minded producer Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon) and remixed by Chris Lord-Alge (Damien Rice, Snow Patrol, Green Day). The Guardian has described it as sounding like 'a long lost masterpiece', whilst The Times pronounce it 'a small miracle' and the Telegraph declare it to be 'heart melting magic'. The B-side to the single is a wonderful live recording of album track 'Burn', recorded at Sarm Studios in London in August 2005.

Is It December?
Review: Fresh from providing an "awe inspiring" (Drowned In Sound) support to The Zutons on their UK tour, Larrikin Love return with 'Downing Street Kindling'. Having previously released two limited edition 7"s in 2005 (on Young And Lost Club and Transgressive Records respectively), the band made their Infectious debut earlier this year with 'Edwould'. 'Downing Street Kindling' follows on June 26th. Available on two ltd 7"s (#2 featuring etched lyrics and a further collaboration with Grime superstar Statik) and CD, all formats have brand new b-sides. Downing Street Kindling is taken from the magnificent debut album 'The Freedom Spark' which follows later this year. Space And The Woods
Heartbeat, Flicker Line
Review: The second release on Way Out West Records is from hotly-tipped, Castle Donnington based Late Of The Pier. They formed somewhere in the mists of 2005, inspired by underage trips to Nottingham's Liars Club where all four band members would often be found on the dancefloor. Described as an electro/rock band from the East Midlands, their main success has been throughout London and the new clubs and scenes in the area. They have been met with considerable interest, especially in the recent new rave scene. Late Of The Pier have played a considerable amount at the Way Out West club nights, which are becoming increasingly well known throughout London. "Space And The Woods" captures the mood of their live shows.

Song For Abba Tribute Record
I Want To Be In Husker Du
Review: North London three-piece Let's Wrestle comprise of WPG on guitar and vocals, Mike Hankin on bass and Louis Scase on drums. Influenced by the mischievous, surreal humour of David Shrigley and the home-spun stylings of anti-folk raconteur Jeffrey Lewis, they sound like a furious amalgam of Swell Maps and ELO. Let's Wrestle came to the attention of Marquis Cha Cha - home to Bromheads Jacket, Tiger Force and Whitey - earlier this year. The band recorded their debut 45 with their friend Simon Trought, who captured their unique sound at his Spitalfields studio, Soup. Let's Wrestle took great pleasure in designing all the artwork for "Song For Abba Tribute", a continuation of the artwork WPG has developed through his cult fanzine, "Fables Of Faubus". Featuring "Song For Abba Tribute Record" and "I Want To Be In Husker Du", this single aptly demonstrates the distillation of the group's vision into a coherent, thrilling art-pop rush.

Tell Me Once Again You Love Me
Review: The Modfather Paul Weller has gone back to his Northern Soul roots for "Are You Trying To Be Lonely?", recorded with artist Andy Lewis and released on the Acid Jazz label. Lewis, considered an arbiter of the nu-soul sound popularised by contemporaries such as Amy Winehouse and Candie Payne, made his name in the nineties as the original DJ at the legendary Blow Up club in Wardour Street.

Lexxus/Kiprich - "Nuh Nice" (3:35)
Young Prince - "Two Things" (3:32)
Review: Fat Eyes is about as consistent as record labels get when it comes to dance hall. The crew has been rolling out the jams at a steady and high-quality rate for a long old time now and as they often do, this month has a whole wealth of new material dropping all at the same time. This one finds Lexxus and Kiprich joining forces for 'Nuh Nice' which has fresh, steel-plated drums skipping in compelling fashion while the two go back and forth on the mic up top. It's a playful sound with plenty of character as well as heavy bass weight. Young Prince steps up on the flip to deliver a different vocal full of inventive sound effects and acrobatics.

No More Sorrow (Third Encore session)
Review: "Shadow Of The Day" was produced by Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin (U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run DMC) and recorded at the infamous Mansion at Laurel Canyon. It represents a different approach from what we're used to from the band as the slow-burning anthem reaches a powerful conclusion. "We have put more into the new album than anything we have ever done before" says bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell. The band spent over 14 months in the studio and wrote more than 100 song demos in the making of "Minutes To Midnight", an album which vocalist Mike Shinoda sees as "a breakthrough in the development of the band's sound. We wrote in new ways, and used instruments and equipment we hadn't experimented with, from vintage guitars and amps to mellotron to Rick's original 808 drum machine he used on the Beastie Boys first record. We tried to question every step in our songwriting process".

Machine
Review: The wait is almost over, "Beatbox Master" is the first, double A-side single from one of the most hotly anticipated drum & bass albums of the year. Logistics' profile has been rising steadily over the course of the releases so far and is set to reach a new plateau with the release of the "Now More Than Ever" album in late September. "Beatbox Master" has big siren synths and rumbling subs with a future electro feel that Logistics has made his own, the vocoding and human beatbox elements make this a memorable kick off. "Girl From Mars" is a massive DJ and dancefloor favourite, with support from Andy C thru to Fabio this roller has made it into sets across the globe the undulating bassline and urgent snare rolls keep this exciting all the way through. Limited 7" version features an alternative track on the AA side called "Machine" which could be best described as indie rock dnb with Logistics providing the vocal and a bassline Peter Hook would be proud of.

Platitudes
Review: The Long Blondes; sardonic style icon and protagonist-in-chief Kate Jackson, guitarist Dorian Cox, bassist Reenie Hollis, keyboardist Emma Chaplin and drummer Screech. The next chapter of Sheffield's idiosyncratic musical heritage: they combine the suburban disco fantasies of The Human League, the opulent ridiculousness of ABC, the seedy glamour of Pulp.
Their new single, 'Weekend Without Makeup', (recorded with Steve Mackey (Pulp, MIA)) bares all the hallmarks of a Long Blondes classic. The witty yet disturbing narratives, the barely contained guitar lines and drum crashes. Like the Slits playing Roxy Music or Donna Summer reciting the collected works of Harold Pinter, the Long Blondes are truly becoming auteurs of the perfect left-field pop song.
The single is split across three formats (Two 7's and a CD) with an exclusive B-side on each produced by Erol Alkan (of Trash and Franz Ferdinand remix fame).
