Review: The late Gabi Delgado fronted the Dusseldorf duo DAF (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft), and in his honour, this reissue of their experimental sixth album 1st Step To Heaven comes courtesy of Music On Vinyl. Janky and fairlight-hued, as was the case with much of 80s dance music, the music pines after sex like an object to be pursued in and of itself. "You make me want to have sex" goes the refrain of opener 'Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi', while 'Sex Up' continues the charge with a dubby, Balearic remix, continuing the mantra throughout the album. A fantastic look back on a weird and provocative duo.

Review: Shadowed Tales From Mulhouse by iconic punk group The Damned is a haunting journey into the depths of musical darkness. The album captivates throughout with its eerie melodies, ethereal vocals, and brooding atmosphere. Each track exudes a sense of mystery and intrigue, drawing the audience into a world of shadows and secrets. The band's masterful instrumentation and haunting lyrics create a spine-chilling experience that lingers long after the final note fades away. All of this makes Shadowed Tales From Mulhouse is a testament to The Damned's prowess as musical storytellers, leaving listeners enthralled and eager for more from this enigmatic ensemble.

Review: Shadowed Tales From Mulhouse captures punk's original rebels in live action in 1994, feeling like a return to their rowdy garage punk origins after spending the latter part of the 80s helping to shape goth rock and then take it overground and into the charts. No sign of 'Eloise' or 'Grimy Fiendish' here though - this all about genre-defining hits like 'Love Song', 'Neat Neat Neat', 'New Rose' and 'Smash It Up', with a heap of perfectly suited and totally unlikely cover versions, from 'Pretty Vacant' to 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' and 'I Walk The Line'. All on nice coloured vinyl, too, it stands as a testament to The Damned's storytelling prowess, leaving audiences enthralled and craving more from this enigmatic ensemble.

Review: This classic compilation album by legendary punk rock band The Damned first came as a 1981 release on Chiswick, dubbed the 'first true indie' label to crop up in the UK. Responsible for pushing many of this condemnable bunch's best works, this compilation is representative of the process, covering the band's evolution from their fast and furious debut Damned Damned Damned to their more experimental and diverse Black Album. Wide-ranging but unified in sound, it's testament to the Damned's long shelf-life; they don't call it "eternal damnation" for nothing.

Review: Here's a classic live album from British punk heroes The Damned, captured in full flight at Woolwich Coronet on July 11 1985. Wrongly credited to a gig at Santa Monica Civic when it was originally released back in 1997, the facts have since been set straight but whatever the case, this is the band at their best. There's all the best bits of their back catalogue and even some choice covers such as the Electric Prunes' ever-classic 'I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night' and Iggy Pop's 'Lust For Life' - and that's just the icing on top of a set brimming with kick ass punk rock.

Review: The first definitive British punk album, Damned Damned Damned, would serve as the arrival of a new form of audible angst, that over four decades later has still managed to maintain its bite and snarl. Originally released on Stiff Records in 1977, National Album Day 2022 has insisted on bringing this highly influential classic to life in a new pressing; teeming with energy, wit and enough proto-genre bending to remind all why The Damned are still an integral aspect of any discussion regarding UK punk and alternative music nearly a half century on.

Review: It's not often we get next generation county, even less when it has such wild crossover appeal - both in terms of mainstream and more niche tastes. When Rolling Stone magazine spotlit Daniel Donato as a Hot Picker in 2023, the rock & roll bible explained how he had dazzled tourists with covers "in Music City's honky-tonks as a teenager," referring to his formative years playing around Nashville, and was now "eager to take fans on a psychedelic journey". Suffice to say, the Cosmic Country thing certainly fits the bill, although this is a case of surrealism playing second fiddle, or guitar, to the kind of soundtrack that feels destined to take this artist to the very top of the popular country list. Which isn't to say anything here is remotely throwaway - we're talking highly complex instrumentation. Nevertheless, it's impossible to imagine anyone walking away unhappy, so take from that what you will.

Bates novel The Darling Buds of May and Erotica is their third and final album, released a few weeks before Madonna's album of the same name in October 1992. The album contained the US single, 'Long Day In The Universe', which was featured on the soundtrack for the Mike Myers film, So I Married an Axe Murderer. Erotica is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on translucent yellow coloured vinyl and includes an insert.

Review: Daughter's third full-length and first in seven years is one of those hotly anticipated albums that doesn't disappoint on arrival. It's fronted once more by Elena Tonra, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who asks what it means to be separated from loved ones and from yourself across 12 new tracks. The musical palette is broadened in those tunes, no doubt in part because members of the band have moved countries and cities, to make for a mix of love and longing with plenty of warm soul throughout. There are intense moments like 'Wish I Could Cross The Sea' and modern love stories like 'Future Lover' both providing real standouts. A great return.

Review: Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella return as Daughter, the cherished three-piece who very much embody the contemporary sound of 4AD. Stereo Mind Game is their first album in four years (not counting video game soundtrack Music From Before The Storm, and it finds them grappling with love over long distances - a sentiment many can relate to in these post-pandemic years. There's space for introspection and joy, all delivered with the wide-reaching sound and inherent delicacy which has made Daughter so well loved by so many.

Review: David Sylvian is best known for his naughties albums 'Blemish' and 'Manafon'- as well as his time at the time of Japan - but at the same time as writing those he recorded a load of alternative material. They took the form of collaborations and side projects with plenty of big names form the worlds of pop, electronic and contemporary classical and are now all gathered together on this Sleepwalkers album. The moods range from romantic to blissed out, sensual to experimental with the likes of the track with Ryuichi Sakamoto, with whom Sylvian has worked for many years, being particular highlights.

Review: Since the glorious synth pop years of Japan, David Sylvian has journeyed into many other realms as a musician. The experimental nature of his formative band set the tone for a career of genuine intrigue, demonstrated wonderfully on this compelling album from 2009, reissued as a double vinyl release to foil some astronomical second hand prices. Manafon centres around pieces of free improvisation, experimental rock and chamber music, with Sylvian's eloquent voice guiding your ear through all manner of fascinating soundscapes and story scenes. With contributors including Christian Fennesz, Evan Parker, Keith Rowe and Toshimaru Nakamura, this is a widely hailed piece of leftfield art that ranks as one of the brightest jewels in Sylvian's glittering career.

Review: David Vanian, splitting off from his role as the lead singer of the Damned, once made an effective detour known as David Vanian and the Phantom Chords. The Chords' self-titled debut from 1995, reissued here, is a fusion of rockabilly and gothic rock - often classified as gothabilly. The band perform a mixture of covers and original material, including 'Voodoo Doll', 'The House Is Haunted' and 'Jezebel', laying down the massive, twangy, incipient sound of gothabilly with Vanian himself sounding as if to be singing in a massive catacomb's chasm.

Review: When Marie Davidson announced last year that she would be, "retiring from club music", many wondered what she'd do next. Renegade Breakdown, her first album recorded with a full band (L'Oeil Nu), answers that question. It sees the Canadian artist and her new collaborators deliver suitably arresting, personal and ear-catching songs built on mixing and matching a surprisingly wide variety of musical inspirations, from Blondie, classic disco and mutilated heavy metal guitars, to Kraftwerk, Billie Holiday, Fleetwood Mac and Daft Punk. It's a big shift for the previously highly experimental artist, but thanks to her skill as both a a producer and performer, one that works magnificently well.

Review: German-Brazilian artist Gloria de Olivera and David Lynch associate Dean Hugely come together for an album that cerebrates the joy and escapism of dream pop. It is an album on Sacred Bones awash with eerie synth strings that are offset by De Olivera's German vocals. Drums echo the sounds of the early Cocteau Twins and the shimmering synths take you higher. It is a low key work with plenty of lo-fi aesthetics but one that makes a grand emotional impact. 'Hanging Gardens' is a real favourite with its moody backdrop of wooly synths.

It's a record that holds a mirror up to these difficult modern times in which awe live and mixes up an array of different sonic foundations to do so. They are dub reggae, motorik Can kicks, Philip Glass's minimalism and dreamy but dark pop spins from The Cure. Add in elements of Spiritualized and Talking Heads with a hint of Brian Eno and you chose have a good idea of what to expect here.

Now two decades into their ongoing career, the American band is still capable of producing glistening indie-pop brilliance, heart-aching torch songs and anthem-like festival sing-alongs. There's plenty of goodness to be found, then, on ninth studio album Thank You For Today, a set bristling with classic Death Cab For Cutie moments - not least the tactile bliss of "When We Drive", boisterous "Gold Rush" and chiming "You Moved Away".

Review: It could have all been so different when Death In Vegas first formed. Richard Fearless and Steve Hellier spawned the project in 1994 and got signed under the name Dead Elvis, but legal wrangling got in the way and they used the name for their debut album instead. Now Music On Vinyl have repressed the 1997 classic so we can revel in the grizzled take on big beat and trip hop the pair cooked up. It's very much of its time, but there's a snarl to the production which sets Death In Vegas apart from their peers at the time, opting for the dive bar ambience over the festival main stage you'd hear when playing The Chemical Brothers or Leftfield. For that reason Dead Elvis has aged very well indeed.

Review: London based slowcore revivalists Deathcrash made good on the promise of their first slew of exceptional EPs with last year's expansive and melancholic full-length debut Return. Little over a year later and the collective return (no pun intended) with Less; a sophomore effort that utilises both restraint and cathartic abandon to audibly craft a work teeming with disappointment, regret and anguish. Embracing their Slint and Duster influences even more, the material here is often more refined and direct than the lengthy dirges of their first album, allowing for the grandiosity of both seven minute plus opener 'Pirouette' and the momentous closer 'Dead, Crashed', to breathe with hypnotic despondency. Consistent while subtly elevating every nuance of their emotive dissonance, Deathcrash drag the "less is more" mantra down to sobering levels of ambivalent sadness.

Review: Sky Girl is the work of two noted (but arguably under-appreciated) crate diggers, DJ Sundae and Julien Dechery, and gathers together a veritable treasure trove of obscure material loosely connected by (in the label's own words) "the same longing sentiment". Its' fifteen tracks touch on a variety of hazy, down-tempo styles, and were recorded at various points between 1961 and '91. There's much to admire throughout, from the folksy psychedelic pop of The Rising Storm's "Frozen Laughter", and spoken word eccentricity of Scott Seskind's "I Remember", to the dreamy, eyes-closed ambience of Nini Raviolette & Hugo Weris' "Slow" and string-laden samba-folk of Nora Guthrie's "Home Before Dark".

Review: Let's face it, 19 albums is a lot by anyone's standards. As such, Deerhoof's 19th long player should be a cause for celebration and praise even before we dive into the incredibly high standards they're once again setting. Appreciation shown, let's get to the nitty gritty of the Miracle Level, an eccentric, unpredictable, and resolutely non-conformist record which - by those definitions - is everything Deerhoof are about.
Blending avant-garde pop, noise, garage, experimental art rock and some stuff we can't really describe, this latest outing is a curious beast indeed. Breaking from their English-speaking past, Satomi Matsuzaki's Japanese vocals only add to the playful atmosphere coursing through the very veins of this effort, naive and innocent, either contrasting the cacophonies and crashes of the most furious moments, or accentuating the calm and delicate movements. Surreal but amazing stuff.

Review: The preaching sirens of Deerhunter return, long has everyone been waiting, since the band's Fading Frontier LP of 2015. The group have moved on from the pinky-pop nostalgia they've described as their last album, and moved into and towards a darker and more intensifying feel. The Atlanta group's eighth full-length in total finds itself tripping out on klaviers and chant-like numbers as heard in "Element" and the rickety jingle of album opener "Death In Midsummer". While there's some crooked-eye positivity to be found in the James Dean referencing "Plains", the masterwork of the band's ambient and cinematic scope remains as strong as ever, and alongside Bradford Cox's undeniable haunt, vocal contributions and extra (subtle) hints of subversive nihilism come from Cate Le Bon and White Fence's Tim Presley.

Review: The fourth studio album from '90s pop-punk-ish alt rock band Del Amitri, Twisted followed 1992's Change Everything, and amounted to a classic among the greats in their discography (though it was the last to feature the guitarist David Cummings). The album's bright, car-mixed songs - 'Roll To Me', 'Never Enough', 'Start With Me' - heard the band retain their omnipresent melodics, though it also marked a shift towards an even sunnier and heartfelt direction than the preceding album, not to mention serving as a sonic companion to the nascent Britpop craze, albeit not directly influenced by it.

Review: Southampton-based band Delays burned bright through their six-year tenure, sadly now shadowed by lead singer Greg Gilbert passing away in 2021. Rough Trade are winding back the clock to 2004, when they first burst onto the scene with their debut album Faded Seaside Glamour. It's an album which embodies the indie boom of that era, loaded with bombast and heartfelt songwriting which nodded to the past without being beholden to it. You might hear the epic strokes of Joshua Tree-era U2 in the likes of 'On', or the jangly pop of The Cure at their breeziest. This deluxe edition comes pressed on orange vinyl.

Review: As we tick over in 2019 it's been some five years since the release of The Delines' lauded debut album Colfax. The six-piece did come out with the The Scenic Sessions in 2015, and while its members have simultaneously remained active pursuing music elsewhere, there's no denying this Imperial album is what everyone's been waiting for. With swathes of piano keys and strings adding the country blues melancholia of the music, the album paints a picture of times in transitional seasons, maybe somewhere in the midwest; be it winter-to-spring or summer-to-autumn. The slow swaggered back-beat of "Where Are You Sonny?" is a real whiskey soaker, while the emotional twang of "Roll Back My Life" should strike a chord or two, too. Hit dem blues.

Review: Back when Mac Demarco was first breaking through in the wake of his third album Salad Days, he slipped out this instrumental album which he framed as a 'BBQ Soundtrack'. It's gone on to become a fan favourite, and for good reason as Demarco's distinctive stripped down sound gets to stretch out in laconic, leisurely style. If there was always a yacht rock streak to his music, it's out in full force here as tracks like 'Don Juan' prove in true smooth-as-silk style. Barbecue or not, you'll feel the sun on your back with this one.

Review: Grinning indie trickster Mac DeMarco makes a striking return with his first ever instrumental album, exploring and asserting the depth of his production chops and structural talent. 'Five Easy Hot Dogs' also charts DeMarco's attitude to the genre of 'musical road trip', likening the interstate journey from Gualala to Rockaway to an easy process of consuming something soft and meaty, like a hot dog. DeMarco's general detuned, lackadaisical character shines through best on the opener and the emotive stepper 'Vancouver 3'.

Review: A follow up to 2017's This Old Dog, everyone's favourite slacker-rock singer songwriter is back with Here Comes The Cowboy. Mixed at DeMarco's Jizz Jazz Studios in Los Angeles, the Canadian musician delivers a swooning and laidback take on folk western blues built on acoustic guitars and the odd sombre horn. The album opens with an unmistakeable vocal drawl, before we're met with DeMarco's trademark slow-tempo groove complete with eerie synths as the album progresses. While it contains many signature traits of a Mac DeMarco record, we're loving the new 1970s and blues rock influences best heard on "Choo Choo" and the second half of closer "Baby Bye Bye". It's easy to imagine DeMarco strumming these numbers in his rocking chair on a porch during sundown in the deep west, all sung while chewing on a single straw of wheat. All in all, Here Comes The Cowboy feels like a solid evolution for the cult hero.

Review: Mac Demarco has a certain cachet as a happy-go-lucky slacker, with campfire atmosphere to spare and chorus pedals set to stun, somewhat in the manner of a millennial Cat Stevens. The songs on 'This Old Dog' go way beyond - focusing on his relationships with family and friends, they're in equal parts mature, affecting and memorable in their melodic sleight-of-hand. Certainly the lazy charm and laid-back goofiness are present and correct here, but 'This Old Dog' displays a genuine reflective depth and emotional resonance.

Review: It's 1990 and Depeche Mode couldn't really be riding much higher in the global music stakes. Having just released Violator, the band had finally debuted an album inside the Billboard Top 10 for the first time in their almost-decade-long history, and pretty much anyone who came into contact with the record was very quickly captivated by its sound. While definitely not a curveball, it marked an expansion of the group's existing style. Some have described it as synth-pop, others alternative rock. In many ways, it's a dance floor album, one that embraces goth and coldwave at its very core. Captured during their tour at that time, Set In Stone features landmark singles from the LP - 'Personal Jesus', of course, and 'World In My Eyes' - it also proves beyond any doubt that a Depeche Mode show is about more than simply playing the hits.

Review: Recent reviews of Spirit, Depeche Mode's first studio set for four years, have remarked at how angry and frustrated the band seems to be throughout. Messers Gore, Gahan and Fletcher are not particularly happy with the way the world is right now, and have laid down an album of rare intensity, seemingly fuelled by a growing desperation at political events on both sides of the Atlantic. Producer James Ford undoubtedly played a role in defining the sound of Sprit, but the combination of raucous, punk style guitars, thrusting electronics and big choruses is what we've come to expect from Depeche Mode.

Review: 32 years on from the release of their debut album Speak and Spell, Basildon's finest drop their 14th full length. While there are echoes of their eyeliner-wearing, synth-bothering futurist past (see the glitchy "My Little Universe" and early New Order-ish "Broken", where Dave Gahan sings about 'dreaming of the future'), for the most part Delta Machine finds them in grinchy synth-rock mode, presumably shaking their fists at passing youngsters like a gang of grumpy old men. Thankfully, they're still capable of great things - "Soothe My Soul" has echoes of "Personal Jesus" - and there's enough to suggest there's some life in the old dogs yet.

Review: Depeche Mode's latest album Memento Mori is something of a post-COVID gestator, but that's had little to no effect on its rabid fan anticipation. Centring on the mood of grief after the passing of the band's founding member Andrew "Fletch" Fletcher, this is the first LP by a Depeche Mode made up of only two remaining members: Dave Gahan and Martin Gore. The band's progression in their latest years have heard them move into darker, peakier, sadder and more industrial themes, as they make do with a future-present that wasn't promised to them in the 80s, while drawing on deathly topoi and nodding to Ingmar Bergman.

Review: Modern day Amsterdam is a bit of an oxymoron. On the one hand, the city proudly brandishes its reputation for alternative and sub cultures, pushing back against lawmakers and their incoherent policies to adopt approaches that are more realistic and levelheaded. On the other, its a place of such rampant commercial development the local government actively discourages visitors and new hotel developments. Look closely, though, and you can still feel the spirit of what, during the latter half of the 20th Century, made this place so special. Paradiso is one of those spots. A waterside cultural venue with a history first as a church, then an illegal squat, before becoming what it is today, the walls themselves seem to pervade a sense of brave, adventurous heritage. An ideal place to catch one of the most defining bands of the 1980s in their heyday, then, here Depeche Mode deliver an astounding set in a space with the atmosphere to match.

Review: Where do you start with a band like Depeche Mode? Easily up there with the most influential British live acts of the late-20th Century, and early-mid-21st - a term we specifically use because their work spans so many genres, from synth pop and new wave to alt and dance rock - the fact just one of their records can garner the kind of reverence that can produce 33 remixes by some of the most respected names in electronic sounds says more than we ever could even if this paragraph went on forever.

Here we have it, then, definitive collection of repurposed and rethought songs from the 2001 LP, Exciter. Veering from the deep proggyness of Danny Tenaglia's take on 'I Feel Loved', through Dave Clarke's breakneck sledgehammer-yet-spacey techno interpretation of 'Dream On', broad sounds would be putting it mildly indeed. Other highlights including the lucid downbeat of Bertrant Burgalat, epic dance metal of DJ Muggs, and sparse, stargazing atmospheres of Isan Falling Leaf.

Remaining members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore wondered if they would carry on, but carry on they did. And we're glad they did, as this is one of their best albums in years with darkness abounding. Their progression in their latest years have heard them move into darker, peakier, sadder and more industrial themes while drawing on deathly topoi.

Review: If you're unfamiliar with what the Desert Sessions are, or were, then a little back story probably won't go amiss. It's 1997 and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) debunks to the remote desert enclave of Joshua Tree, California. He takes a handful of friends with him, and this being music that handful of friends are all suitably talented and - in many cases - pretty renowned. The results have been enshrined in the pantheons of music folklore, recorded and gradually released in sequential volumes. Here we have "Vol. 11 & 12" then, which features a host of notable characters. From Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears to ZZ Top man Billy Gibbons and Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa. Spanning the gamut from the cartoonish nod to Tom Tom Club or B52s ("Chic Tweetz") to the head-nodding, scuzzy rock 'n' roll goodness of "Noses In Roses, Forever", it's exploratory, beguiling and very much worthy of your time.

Review: Has it really been 10 years since the last album from Belgian art-rockers Deus? Well, it would seem so, but now they're back with their eighth long player and sounding stronger than ever. The band's sound has always been committed to finding that sweet spot between off-kilter experimentation and strong melodic sensibilities, and they continue to make that approach their own with 12 superlative new tracks, no less than 28 years since they first emerged. It's no small amount of time for a band to keep going, but Deus sound as vital as they did in the beginning on the album, pressed up here on clear vinyl.

Review: Five decades on and Devo are rightly recognised as a cultural treasure from the early days of US new wave, but even by the time they released their Brian Eno-produced debut album in 1978 they were five years in and way ahead of the curve. As the band reflect on half a century at the cutting edge, Rhino have pulled together an expansive retrospective which comes in many different iterations. This particular edition, pressed on red and blue double vinyl, gathers together 25 classic and lesser known cuts from the band's considerable archives, housed with stunning artwork in a gatefold sleeve and is sure to become a collectors' item.

Review: These have been troubled times for the Brooklyn four-piece Diiv, who've not only lost their drummer to drug addiction but have seen vocalist Zachary Cole Smith battling both rehab and police attention in the run-up to this album. Lucky for everyone, however, they've channelled the tribulations into a bittersweet and rich selection of shoegaze-tinged indie-rock ditties that display both an understated sleight-of-hand and a cinematic sweep. Redolent of giants like The Cure and Smashing Pumpkins yet possessed of their own radiant charm, Diiv remain as irresistible as their name is unpronounceable.

Review: Los Angeles outfit DIN return with a fourth album that is their fullest yet. It is a real contrast between the light and airy vocals of Josie Vand and the ever present electronics of Greg Vand. Both fall in and out of harmony, take turns to lead and seduce as they do so. Every sound is clear and concise, with syncopated percussion and playful synths. The record is not only a musical triumph but one that revels in the experience of living in the here and now. As far as contemporary cold wave and synth go, this is right up there.

Review: The component parts of Dinas Ogon have been busy in too many pockets of Swedish rock, jazz and soul to count, but it's with their combined efforts on this LPthat see them achieving some of their finest moments to date. The quartet of Anna Ahnlund, Christopher Castillo, Daniel Ogren and Love Orsan conjure a sound which feels intimately connected to the heyday of classic 70s songwriting and production - warm and sentimental, steeped in the art of storytelling and not a little melancholic, but they're just as able to channel their inner pop diva when the mood calls for it. Packed with songs to carry with you through life, it's a masterful second album from a group overflowing with talent.

Review: Swedish band Dina Ogon have become one of the most celebrated groups in their scene. After their well received ;east album 'Oas' they now return with 'Orion', which includes the already well received lead single 'Glitter.' That tune is, say the band, "a journey upwards, forwards and inwards." That message somewhat gets against their previous vibe with has been described as backward-looking and Nordic-nostalgic. There is still plenty rich dreaminess to their work here with soaring Balearic-pop delights such as 'Jag Vill Ha Allt', glistening cosmic ditties like 'Det Lacker' and the late night soul of 'Mellan De Sju Fjallen' all swelling your heart.

Review: Beyond was a big deal for Dinosaur Jr. fans when it landed in 2007. This was the first album from the Massachusetts rockers in 10 years, but more significantly it was the first album by the band's original line-up since 1988's Bug. The response was rapturous, with critics and fans alike hailing a successful reunion that drew on the best of the band's early years without feeling like a tragic throwback. A big part in that is surely J Mascis' songwriting, which feels pointed and purposeful across this premium slice of alternative rock from true titans of the genre, now repressed as a special 15th anniversary edition on limited purple and green vinyl with a bonus 7" featuring the tracks 'Yer Son' and 'What If I Knew'.

Review: Of all the reformations of classic '90s band to take place in the last decade and a half, Dinosaur Jr's - now nine years in - has been one of the most uplifting. Moreover, this has been largely down to this decidedly scruffy and unassuming outfit delivering nothing more nor less than the same old fabulous thing, with no drama or no rock star frolics, yet bucketloads of the raw magic, chemistry and style that always elevated their records far above the grunge-rock hurly-burly. 'Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not' has it all - memorable songs, wildly in-the-red production, a tight and electrifying band and J Mascis cementing his status as the greatest guitarist of a generation.

Review: Indie and alternative rock have changed a lot since the mighty Jr. first hit us with grizzly riffs and Gen X tones. Nevertheless, this is a band that helped change the face of the Western guitar scene back in the late-1980s, and their influence and impact is still felt today. The whole reason the sound of this three piece is so familiar is it helped pave the way for much that has come since.

Sweep It Into Space might be the best reminder of that. Originally pegged for release last year, with Kurt Vile involved, sadly he fell ill and was unable to offer his talent, leaving the original Dinosaur Jr. lineup to do their thing. And do their thing they did. It's lo-fi but powerful, romantic but broken, high-energy but cool, gritty rock music for streets, skateparks and late-night bars and bonfires, and we never want it to end.
