Apart from a few excellent solo appearances under her own name for the Cult Hero label, Penelope Trappes has has been primarily active across the Lismore and The Golden Filter projects, two names which have received plenty of praise from ourselves over the years. This time, however, she appears on Scotland's Optimo Music on her own, and Penelope One is probably the best and most poignant example of what this woman can do behind the mixing desk. Through a mixture of ambience and puristic cold-waves, Trappes builds a veritable journey from start to finish, never afraid to stick to her own vision of what synth music should be. Importantly, this is not a collection of tunes; it is clear that plenty of work and calibration and gone into making this into a single-minded proposition - something that could not be listened to without the context of its tracks as a whole. Moody but equally vibrant, Penelope One will draw you into its own reality.
