Retrospectivo 2008-2016 CD

Big room techno sorts Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann have been regular collaborators over the last decade, releasing a string of well-regarded singles. Retrospectivo draws together all of their work to date over two action-packed discs, throwing in a smattering of previously unheard reworks from like-minded producers. There's naturally much to admire, from the bombastic rhythms and nagging bleep notes of "Diablo", to the bass-heavy throb of "Fuego", via the early morning in Berlin vibes of "Humano", and the South American-influenced percussive chug of "Terra". Most of the remixes tend towards the club tool end of the spectrum, though Matador's atmospheric, low-slung take on "Aire" - influenced, it seems, by the relentless heaviness of post-punk dub disco - is a little more revolutionary.
