Mysterious Russian Soul 1 vinyl

Having made an impression with the typically rugged sounds of Raw Story, his debut EP released earlier this year on Rawax, Anton Mayer surfaces on an all new label endeavour in the shape of the excellently named Mysterious Russian Soul imprint. Sharing sides with newcomer Brother G, the four tracks present explore the similar shades of house and techno that the more celebrated Rawax and affiliates have made their name on. Anton Mayer holds it down on the A-Side with "Groove 169" an effervescently breezy production, launching swiftly into a swinging, dubby house groove whose rich textures shift around with panoramic playfulness. "Loud Out" is the more tensile production steeped in vintage Motor City feelings, fizzing percussive detail deep in the mix which allows the pensively woozy melodic elements centre stage. Lesser known he may be, but Brother G impresses just as much, focusing on a brittle, almost alien groove with "Tech Reshape Series 1" which gradually teases out some delightful Utopian touches, whilst "Warmness All Around" couldn't be any better named.
