If there is one Cumbia specialist, it's Colombia's Andres Landero, a master of the accordion, and an artist who has left behind a huge musical dynasty since his passing in 2000. Originally out in 1975 on Discos Fuentes, "La Pava Congona" is reissued here by the industrious Vampi Soul label from Spain, and its hazy sway is an absolute delight in every way; organic percussion, Landero's voice and, of course, his accordion make this something of a South American gem for all sorts of listeners to enjoy. There's a SeNor Sabor remix on the flip; the groove is given more of a steely 4/4 pump, and we're happy to say that it is certainly more dance-friendly than the original.
