Deep House
  1. Discotronic (8:34)
  2. The Woohh Sound (7:11)
  3. Kiwi Kawi (6:12)
Review: French disco deviant and Robsoul/Ondule mainstay Around 7 is back with more bumpin' and loopy house jams for proper house gangsters on the rather infectious "Discotronic" with its hypnotic bass riff and dusty drums really doing the business. "The Woohh Sound" does exactly what it says on the tin: you could really imagine DJ Sneak or Mark Farina using this one to whip up a frenzy at some Chicago basement party. Finally we have "Kiwi Kawi" which serves up some late night deep house of the smooth and sexy variety. More quality and reliable grooves from Phil Weeks' esteemed label out of Paris.

Review: Robsoul Friends are back with a new EP! After their last track together "Real Juice" & the best track "The Acid", they delivery a solid EP with 2 funky tracks directly in line with their influences. Maybe "Sorry James" is sample from a disco classic (find it!) used by Sneak on Strictly! Still, sub-bassline & vocoder voices here, Chris & Hector have done a remix themselves for this EP! Minority dub like old Frisco track with perfect drums!

  4. Junior (6:30)
Review: Fresh from the heat of "Buddy Now Buddy", Bosconi barons Minimono return to Robsoul with four freaky house jams. "Let'em Come" has a raw edge from the warped vocal manipulation but soothes with the woozy jazz pads. "Know Is Fonk" is much more visceral and direct with its shuffling beats and weaves of human rhythmic shots while "Estroverso" comes on strong like a really early Sneak record at -5 thanks to its stately jacks, spoken word samples and jazzy sprinkles. Looking for a more delicate disco touch? Jump straight on the wondrously loopy, flute-snapping viber "Junior". Heavens above.

  4. Breaking It Down (6:51)
Review: Japan's Hideto Omura, a master of the classic Chicago sound, lands back on Paris' Robsoul with pure ease, and bounces through with four killer house melters. "Move It Like You Know" is a raw and stripped-back house joint that's full of flavour and little baccie, whereas "My People" calls the dancers tot he floor, and acts as the perfect DJ tool. The B-side contains "Swing & Shout" and its little bass tones full of goodness; "Breaking It Down" is the gem on here, the DJ's tune, and a perfect companion to the likes of Kyle Hall's material on his own Wild Oats. Quality cuts straight from the machines to you.

  1. Catalyst (7:05)
  2. It's Alright (Raw mix) (6:20)
  3. Ojo Rojo (6:26)
Review: Given his usual productivity, Mobilee man Sebo K has been rather quiet of late. This is his only his third outing in three years, and sees him make his belated debut for Phil Weeks' Robsoul Recordings. It's arguably more solid than sensational, with Catalyst delivering a trio of floor-friendly DJ tools. He offers a nod towards classic French filter disco and vintage Mr G productions on the bumpin' title track - all bold bass, relentless rhythms and a few choice effects - before wandering off in a more obviously soulful, dusty direction on the Andres style bumper "It's Alright (Raw Mix)". Finally, he delves deeper into deep house/tech-house crossover territory on the smooth and intricate "Ojo Rojo".

  1. Player's Theme
  2. Can't You See
  3. I Feel Good
Review: Following the recent dip into the Theo Parrish archives that was The Twin Cities, Phil Weeks' Robsoul imprint looks to another one of Detroit's adopted sons in the form of Rick Wade. Like that recent Parrish reissue, Weeks re-releases another three tracks from Wade's bulging discography. The upbeat disco loops of "Players Theme" was originally released on French label Funky Chocolate in 2002 and still sound fresher than anything being plied by the Soundcloud dwellers today, while "Can't You See" from 2003 provides a more soulful take on house music. On the flip, the tracky funk and cascading string melodies of "I Feel Good" originally graced Wade's own Harmonie Park imprint in 1998, but sound no less vital today. Essential.

Review: Right from the tip of his top hat, Eats Everything has got serious beef with us... And we couldn't be happier about it. Taking Weeks' 2014 Holloway-belting thumper and ramping the dickens out of every clattering snare roll and chugging kick, Eats' take on "It's Inside That Counts" rattles and hums with subtle edit craft. Retaining everything that's great about the original (and the samples Weeks used) this hits every dancefloor spot imaginable. Tip!
