Review: Gobstopper boss Mr Mitch originally released "The Man Waits" last year as part of the The Room Where I Belong EP, at a time when the label was a strictly digital-only affair. With Gobstopper making the switch to vinyl this year, Mitch has wisely decided to reissue the track along with a selection of superbly chosen remixes. If you heard the Mr Mitch album on Planet Mu, you will love the original version of "The Man Waits" which exemplifies the producer's capacity to flush grime with twinkling emotion. Logos, Gage, and Iglew all step up to remix the track and there is plenty of diversity shown across the three versions. Logos turns in an ambient reduction that is truly haunting, whilst Gage's effort is an exercise in futuristic sound design with some punishing bursts of drums. To close, Iglew veers off in a more weightless direction that offers some calm and respite. A great 12" from the Gobstopper crew.

Review: Mystic instrumentals from the south west area courtesy of Mr Mitch's irrepressible Gobstopper label. Odeko makes his EP debut with four future-focused adventures in the exciting fertile land between experimental grime and glistening, formula-free electronica. From the pulsating subs and wavy melodic twangs of "Setsuko" to the shimmering-but-mangled harp echoes of "Sugar Acid", very few parallels can be made bar, perhaps, Chinese grime aficionado Swimful. Far East by inspiration, far out by design, Odeko is on to something special here.
