Serato Fresh Air Control Vinyl (2 x 12 inch, clear vinyl)

More than 10 in stock $48.45
Cat: 658047 Rel: 07 Aug 17

12" control vinyl pressing for Serato DJ & Scratch Live DJs using Serato’s NoiseMap Control Tone
Notes: A blazing hot release, just in time for Summer. Dam-Funk brings his A-game to this exclusive two-part Serato record.

Side A's title track sees a DJ Spinna collaboration swing into airy, G-funk-driven house music. While Side C's "Hittin" delivers a more laid back track with Dam's classic neck-snapping snares and grandiose guitar riffs.

The vinyl comes in crystal clear. Each track hits the ten(ish)-minute mark, ideal for the DJ-handover record. Jacket & labels feature stunning artwork by Freddy Anzures.

Tracklist:

Side A: "Fresh Air" feat DJ Spinna (9:12)
Side B: Serato Control Tone (15:00)

Side C: "Hittin" (10:32)
Side D: Serato Control Tone (15:00)

  1. Main Event (3:37)
  2. Buzzsaw (3:57)
Review: What a trip it's been for The Allergies; rolling from one killer album to the next, funk is flying from their HQ at a rate of knots. Here are two fine examples from their last LP Push On, both featuring their long-time friend and MC from Andy Cooper. Best known for his witty wordplay and character on Ugly Duckling records, here Andy gets to show off both sides to his expansive flow; "Main Event" is a chubby disco groove laced with mountains of funk, creating space for Andy's laidback-but-hypey charm. In perfect contrast "Buzzsaw" is a much sweatier funk jam allowing Cooper to get rapid and tongue-twisty in a way that only he knows how. Keep on pushing...

Review: The Bobby Hamilton Quintet Unlimited changed paid homage to the Greek gods in the mid 70s with this unique one-off offering. "Ecology" is a sweet, rolling soul slice with glistening guitars and a velvet almost Sun-Ra style jazz aesthetic. "Anubis" is more of a driving, evocative Troubleman-style groove with vocals that build and gather momentum around each other with an almost gospel-like sensation. Powerful... As always from Athens Of The North.

Review: It's landed! Two highly iconic and tricky-to-trace funk breaks from the 70s get the treatment from the mysterious new US series B Boy Funk Breaks. Blackrock's psychedelically twinged "Yeah Yeah" gets a slight shuffle and refocus while retaining the all the instrumental drama and swashbuckling drop that's led with JB-level bandleadership while the edit of Richard's People take us straight to church, front row centre. Again laced with another clean and killer break, this is powermove gold. Limited to 300 copies.

Review: Hugely influential funk business live and direct from 1969. Sampled by everyone from Timberlake to Schooly D, all eyes (and ears) are on the epic fly-by drum breaks while the minimal guitar and bass provide a sturdy backbone for the stickman to do his thing. Peppered with encouraging chatter from bandleader Bo, these are blueprint funk jams that will never ever date. A collection isn't complete with this.

Review: Ahead of Paul David Gillman's album on Sacred Rhythm, Claussell takes the time to present two celebratory takes on two stone cold fusion classics. The Latin keys, trembling organs and emphatic harmonies of Brian Auger's "Whenever You're Ready" are subtly charged with Joe's signature percussive magic, creating a sense of momentum that refuses to detract from the original magic while Wycoff's cult gospel-tinged funk "Come To My World" reminds us of his work on Stevie's legendary Songs In The Key Of Life. Subtly amplified and extended, Claussell has blessed us with an ultimate end-of-night gem right here.

And he's pressing the northern soul button "What If" pushes with a big horn hook and swooping backing vocals at a steady but solid pace while "I Surrender" is a pounding dancefloor northern soul shake down made famous by Eddie Holman which delivers here with big hooky choruses and powerful vocals from Carlson himself.

His first English sung album since his work with the Moon Ray Quintet, this pokey little "45 gives us a strong flavour of what's to come. "The Long Way Home" is all about the big soul vibes with surging vocals and a tight driving groove while "Beggin'" is a fantastic cover of Frankie Vallie that blows his Swedish version from 2003 completely out of the water.

Review: Serious funk fire from the brothers Carbo right here. "Fox In A Mini Skirt" hits hard with a sweaty northern soul feel. Fresh from 68, it's all about the big band builds, ballsy backing vocals and sense of momentum that still kicks just has hard today. "Bad Luck" on the B sees Hank going it solo on the previously super-rare "Bad Luck" that's much sleazier and blues-based and stripped back. Both stone cold cuts, the only misfortune here would be for you to sleep on this.

Review: There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing on Outta Sight's latest deep dive into the world of rare funk and soul. On the A-side you'll find Cobblestone's "Trick Me Treat Me", a fiendishly hard to find 1970 stomper that has long been an in-demand record amongst Northern Soul collectors. On the flipside you'll find the arguably even more impressive "Rainmaker" by The Moods, a kind of proto-disco, Motown-goes-to-Philadelphia anthem from 1970 full of impassioned vocals, swirling orchestration and a groove that just makes you want to dance. Since an original 7" could set you back 50 quid (or so), this re-issue should be an essential purchase for anyone with soul in their veins.

He is particularly hard to come by these days, but Austria's Agogo imprint clearly know how to get their links form around the globe, and this new tune is a peaceful ballad for purely positive vibes. "Balantije" is one of those tunes you can slap on in just about any scenario, spreading love and good will wherever and whenever, guided by a subtle ska off-beat; Mankoora's remix takes it to more danceable territories, adding in a layer of percussion and just the right amount of funk. Yes.

Review: Norman Connors was a 'go to' producer in the 1970s and '80s for soul and jazz, while holding it down on an impressive array of solo albums. Connors is a drummer first and foremost, and across his rhythm-focussed recordings were the introduction of singers who went on to have their own individual careers such as Jean Carn, Phyllis Hyman and the exceptional Phillip Mitchel - who features on A side 'Once I've Been There'. Flipside track 'Captain Connors' comes as a 12" mix made in 1977 but never released before on vinyl! The man returns to Sundae Soul Recordings with two fine-ass cuts, the first of which is an edit of a certain track called "Back To You" (unnamed for legal reasons), and it's one of those seductive soul ballads that sounds just perfect on the dancefloor. On the flip, T Groove drops a mix of "Don't Let Love Walk Out In Us" and, once again, we have a lovely blend of disco-leaning soul on our hands - perfect for just about any situation involving lovers and the moonlight. Gorgeous.

Dalila and Neyde Alexandre feature in this latest 7", the former with 1968's "Canto Chorado", a slow-burning bubble of funky exotica - surely impossible to find in its original shade - and the latter with a funky little bomb from 1971 by the name of "Perplexidade" - surely the smoothest, sexiest soul number out this week! Review: Alfie Davison's "Love is Serious Issue" was famously one of the only records that united both sides of the infamous Northern Soul divide. While the "modern soul" contingent - led, of course, by DJs Ian Levine and Colin Curtis - loved the track's overblown disco production, those still welded to the scene's original sound appreciated the song's driving back track, rousing horns and Davison's impassioned vocal. This timely 7" reissue not only includes the familiar edited version on the A-side, but also the phenomenally hard to find 12" version on the flip. It's this, with its extended instrumental sections and emphasis on the heavy disco-rock groove, which should have you reaching for your wallet.

It's powerful enough for an instrumental but it's also subtle enough to carry Lo Carter's incredible vocals on the A-side. Gutsy old soul with raw emotion, Lo makes the gem in Gemco truly shine.

Much like his own tunes, The Cyclist and O'Flynn turn in two dusty, percussion-heavy dance experiments that blur the lines between bass and house, coming through with some lovely, late summer rays of warmth. On the flip, Lobster-boy Palms Trax rewires "Neeloon" into a sparse house banger with plenty of aqueous exploration in its underbelly, and Kaidi Tatham transforms "Drugs" into an magnificently off-kilter nu-jazz piece.

Three years later, it truly has an a largely Turkish collective lay down a supreme collection of eastern funk trips. Fattish's "Gel Seher" adds a little swaggering house beat beneath the soaring vocals and strings, Kozmonotosman gets mischievous with a loose-string twang jam while Kurt Adam enshroud us with a strangely percussed subverted lounge ballad. Tokyo Matt takes a final roll of the dice with a tropical finale laced with fretless bass finesse.

Review: 1970s soul survivor Lee Fields has struck up a pretty special relationship with The Expressions, the house band of Truth & Soul writer/arranger/producer Leon Michels.
