Dissymmetrical Vinyl 01 (140 gram vinyl 12" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: DSSMV 01. Rel: 22 May 17
  1. Asymmetric - "Stormy" (7:12)
  2. Asymmetric - "Quarantine" (7:15)
  3. Asymmetric + Limit - "Transzendental" (7:49)
  4. Asymmetric + Limit - "Jazz Is..." (6:35)
Review: Limit and Asymmetric are in fact both the work of St. Petersburg-based producer Evgeniy Sergeev, who has been building up a library of contemporary D&B productions digitally and now makes the leap to vinyl with some of the strongest of his productions to date. "Stormy" is aptly titled as it rips with ferocity through mangled breaks, rave stabs and hoovers aplenty and "Quarantine" is a quintessential darkside jam with more of that tricksy drum programming. The B-side offers a little more respite with the sunkissed tones of "Transzendental" and the soulful yet ruff mood of "Jazz Is..." making a smart counterpoint to the heavier A side.

Grim Zenith EP (hand-numbered 12" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: VIS 005. Rel: 22 May 17
  1. Could We Be? (6:22)
  2. Pure Dirge (5:20)
  3. How Long From Now? (5:44)
  4. Luxury Of Sadness (5:57)
Review: Rated over the years by the likes of John Peel and Thom Yorke, Christoph De Babalon has been cooking up experimental jungle since 1994. He remains just as happily and securely on the bleeding edge now as he always has.... Make plenty of room for the thundering drums and unpredictability of "Could We Be?", the overwhelmingly dark and languishing intro on "Pure Dirge", the electrified drone and booming reese on "How Long From Now" in your sets. Then make plenty of room in your head for the woozy horns and skittering jazz drums of "Luxury Of Sadness". Immense innovation.

SENSI 003 (red vinyl 12")
Cat: SENSI 003. Rel: 22 May 17
  1. FeyDer - "That's My Number" (5:17)
  2. DJ Clear - "Badboy/Smokin' Sensi" (4:48)
Review: Already a success on digital for the Canadian crew, Sweet Sensi now press their third release to the wax where it belongs. Russian Feyder takes the A with a skank-packed take on Toots that's around 54-56 tonnes heavy. Label co-boss DJ Clear takes care of the B with an even wilder piece of work as "Badboy / Smokin Sensi" whistles and slurs with some of the nuttiest drum edits this side of 1994. Two absolute wig-tuggers; grab this while you can.

Hoinar (10")
Cat: TRIGRAM 06. Rel: 22 May 17
  1. Musai Soundworks - "Hoinar" (4:12)
  2. Alpha Steppa - "Ro Heath" (4:36)
Review: Alpha Steppa has had a hand in half of Trigram's releases to date, so it's probably fitting that he's featured on the label's latest 10" adventure. His contribution, "Ro Health", is an undeniably unique proposition: a skewed fusion of off-kilter dubstep rhythms, exotic Asian instrumentation, trippy electronics and the kind of monstrous sub-bass movements that sound ridiculously filthy on sizeable soundsystems. Musai Soundworks A-side excursion "Hoinar" is arguably even better. Beginning with some half-step beats and sharp South Korean violin lines, it quickly morphs into a heavy tropical drum and bass roller.

A Step Change

 in stock $8.09
Cat: META 50. Rel: 22 May 17
  1. Step Change (4:35)
  2. Get Close (5:29)
Review: It's been a few years since Ulterior Motive last delivered original material on Headz but these two ageless designs more than make up for lost time. "Step Change" is the assassin of the two: one click head shot business, this is a run for cover brock out with all the grit and aggression we need in these dark, paranoid times. "Get Close", meanwhile, proceeds to soften our edges. An unnerving, droning stepper that's restrained, but gradually built with measured menace, it's quintessential Ulterior Motive.
