Review: this 4 track ep see's the return of Bonnie & Klein to Uber. 3 og tracks and a superb beachbar chugging remix from Drifts Projects. Tones of Ballad has touches of Mike Francis with a saxophone right out of the 80's beautiful. Drifts Projects drop the sax and creates a more hypnotic groove. pretty Lake is the perfect track to drift into dusk with. Again capturing the authentic feel of an laidback italo instrumental with a bassline from heaven. Finally Snowdrift a slower tune at home soundtracking a light flurry or a La Torre sunset. lovely ep.

Review: Dreamtime astrotraveled to great hieghts to find melodic Baleriec music from the Baltic. Bobby Bricks provides his simple bell hypnotic grooves with kalidspope pads which drift like raft in a sunshower. Miskotom gives a completely fresh take on laid back cassette tape drum machine music. Songs groove with non repeative beautifil melodies, low fi guitar riffs and classy reverbs.

Review: Emotional Rescue returns with the third album in a series based around the music of Luis Delgado and Javier Bergia. After a collecton of Javier's best music, the reissue of their Ishinohana collaboration, here presented in 'Vathek' is Delgado's debut solo album.

The second release on his El Cometa De Madrid label after Ishinohana, the LP is an avant-garde step forward from that collaboration, their work in Finas Africae and also, his previous Mecanica Popular project.

In a sense, Delgado is the link that brings many of the country's music of that period together. A multi-instrumentalist he played his first concert at 14 before becoming an in-house engineer for RCA that led to Mecanica Popular with fellow engineer Eugenio MuNoz (Randomize) and the projects following.

The colder electronics of that project belie Delgado's Andulusian Folk/Rock and Ethnic Fusion compulsion, as came to prominence with Luis Paniagua in their Babia releases and via the later success of Finas Africae.

In Vathek, Delgado pushes beyond these projects to utilise the studio and explore his interest in Eastern music. Subtitled "Procesos Electronicos Para Instrumentos Acusticos," the premise was that even with all the machines, the knowledge to use them is not realised and therefore, the goal was to go deeper within these processes to create an new encompassing sound.

The ten pieces should, therefore, be seen in this exploration, yielding a deepness not associated with this golden period of Spanish music. A truly experimental album that is meditative and mesmorising; a mastery of instrument, studio and thought.

As with Javier Bergia's 'Eclipse' and Ishinohana before it, Vathek comes with wonderful hand-illustrated artwork by Finn Campbell-Notman, from his studio in the Andulusian foothills.

Review: Whispered words from the ancient earth. The biosphere metaphorically battered by dusty drum machines, synth swept landscapes, industrial hooks that ring out from the barren outback. Was is das?

Die Orangen are Australian-expats Kris Baha and Dreems, and together they have crafted a genre: "Krautback." Rooted in indigenous psychedelia, resonating the vast expanses of the island of Gondwanaland, turnt up by progressive cultures, and multiplied by the logic of the German mind.

Hear the sound of the Southern sun melt genres, feel it flow downstream into a languid ocean of sound.

Beware the punch of the red kangaroo, a bite from the deadly taipan, the neon stare in a tree-frogs eye, and the bleached siren call of the coral reef - these wild sonic reveries ominously soundtrack the future that nature has in store.

Review: Jules Etienne is back on Cocktail d'Amore Music with Triangle Des Bermudas.
Referencing the legendary region in the Western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, this EP opens up to a mysterious space of adventure and discovery.
The title track is a down tempo, balearic, and mystical ballad. Sounding like a ship moving slowly, but fiercely toward unexplored territories. The toms resemble a voice coming up from the depth of the sea, the pads like fluffy clouds reflecting off the waves. Massimiliano Pagliara is on remix duty, blowing on the sails and taking the ship into a cosmic expedition. This is deep and dreamy house music with cascading string lines combining effortlessly with hypnotic drums.
A driving arpeggio melts sweet and delicate with celestial strings, dreamlike vocals and breezy percussions in Cuban Omelette. While John's Job is a vivid dialogue between hand percussions, echoed toms and a sturdy baseline.

Review: "Emotional Response continues it's fifth year celebrations in welcoming two of the label's long held favourite artists Jefre Cantu Ledesma and Alexis Georgopoulos coming together perfectly for an album of laconic story-telling and atmospherics.

Over the past decade, Cantu Ledesma and Georgopoulos have been frequent collaborators. With one another Jefre's recent ""On The Echoing Green' (Mexican Summer), Arp's The Soft Wave (Smalltown Supersound) and The Alps Le Voyage (Type) and with others. Jefre has worked with Grouper (aka Liz Harris), filmmaker Paul Clipson and has released music by Harold Budd, Oneohtrix Point Never and Keith Fullerton Whitman on his Root Strata imprint, while Alexis has worked with visual artists Tauba Auerbach and Doug Aitken, scored dance for Merce Cunningham, choreographer Jonah Bokaer and made liminal classical music with Canterbury composer Anthony Moore (FRKWYS 3 / RVNG Intl.).

In all of their projects, the two have always been masters of atmosphere. Veering between romantic abstraction, filmic ambiguity and suggested narrative, their music draws on personal and collective memory, letting things surface. Fragments Of A Season represents a new and distinct chapter in their ongoing work together, continuing this lineage of understated but resonant work.

Arising from conversations wherein each revealed that they'd been working on tracks with a similar feel in mind, the two quickly realized their songs fit together quite effortlessly. The goal was to do something immediate and spare most songs simply use an old drum machine and a few chorused guitars, featuring live performances with minimal editing. The result, and indeed the goal of the project, was not to make an album that would simply sounds like what one would expect of the two there are no modular synths or sequenced basslines, no motorik rhythms or overdriven distortions. Rather, to pursue a tangent of simplicity and clarity.

The result is an album of warmth and cool, sparse but evocative, earthy and luminous, narrative and abstract, taking influence from Les Disques Crepescule and early Cherry Red artists the duo also cite Eric Rohmer's A Summer's Tale and the photography of Luigi Ghirri, whose image graces the cover.

Song titles provide narrative hints. As does New York-based writer Leigh Gallagher's short story enclosed within. Each song finds the story advancing on the beach (""Marine""); at a discotheque (""Madagascar""); sleeping in the afternoon (Mirror The Sky). Memory of cobblestone streets and a recent relationship (""Cleo"", The Streets Are Filled With Rain). A sense that this temporary idyll will end casts a shadow. Ultimately, for reasons unclear, it does (""Lost Summer"").

There is the sense that a distinct arc has taken place. On some faraway beach, the buildings are white, the skies and sea turquoise. Waves rise and crest. A shaft of light crosses an empty room. A discotheque can be heard in the distance. A mist burns off. Over the course of the ensuing astral summer weeks, an encounter sets the world known previously in relief. Days stretch out and the nights hum.

Ilija Rudman brings out the analogue hardware and adds a boogieesque bassline keeping the deepness. Finally Robot 84 pumps it up a touch with a nod towards Italian house sounds of the early 90's. 3 great versions.

Review: Max manetti is a new artist to Uber. This 4 track ep showcasing his unique loose percussion and bass driven take on the Balearic beat capturing the dancefloor and the sunshine in equal measures. Jungle prayer is a breaky percussion grroove with cheeky sample, deeply mesmerising. Dub Macumba is a slightly more drowsy take the theme of bass and drums with a funky guitar rhythm. Changuinola is a dubby narcotic dream of a tune subtle melodies and a perfect vocal sample evocing nights under stars at Hostal Salinas. Finally Garrison arrives...another killer downtempo bomb. a seriously confident debut. proper.

Review: Out Of The Blue, Phil Mison's first compilation for some time, was apparently inspired by his first few trips to the White Isle of Ibiza, and specifically the unlikely set of circumstances that led to him filling in for Jose Padilla at Cafe Del Mar. Musically, it's reflective of the story, joining the dots between impossible-to-find rarities (see the loved-up instrumental jazz-rock of "Jelly" by The Cactus Rose Project and the life-affirming fusion business of Christoph Spendel Group's "Forever", for starters), huggable Balearic synth-pop, flamenco-inspired sunset gems, and a smattering of head-in-the-clouds Italian dream house killers. Given Mison's heritage and status as one of Balearica's top selectors, it's perhaps unsurprising that Out Of The Blue is undeniably brilliant.

Review: Emotional Response steps to summer '17 by welcoming with accompanying releases from Out 2. Evolved out of the Brooklyn based Lectric Sands studio / label and featuring members of their own Zoovox and Mazing Vids, this 'super-alumni' is a perfect meeting for the label and US brotherhood.

Based around a longtime friendship, this slow-burner project is centered around the NYC life of one-time roommates, DJ sparrers and just possibly the latter day duo behind the Locks & DDM project that was released (semi-) anonymously in 2016, step out in to the (fluorescent) light.

With just one Out 2 track given to the world back in 2012 on Lectric Sounds 1, these recordings have morphed for a near decade to reach fruition in long-form EP and soon to come 'Showcase' vocals and dubs album.

While some is known of Mr Jeremy Campbell forum/blog educator, DJ Tropical Jeremy monikererer, half-a-Zoovox and studio (dub)don - his cohort, the little known R. Zanzibar remains a man of mystery.

Zanzibar's free-flowing lyrics, shredded guitar and bass grooves come together before plunging into Campbell's wall-of-dub mixing matrix. With fellow Lectric-head, Ben Gebhardt contributing sometimes-synths and general mixpertise, Out 2 offer a timely reminder of the best of their hometowns post-punk / new wave history, but with a laid back irreverence and killer, leg shaking, live-dubbed grooves that are very much for today.

In opener, Zanzibar lays it out. Contrary to song matter, this is impossible to not to be a Downtown-showdown-hoedown. Impro' lyrical flow keeps your head listening before the off-kilter dub-funk groove keeps you feet Moving.

Following in Fire, your mind is soon tripping to sonic content and vocal swirls, before it gets all Compass Point, with an discomix inspired, cod-desk-dub.

On the flip Rubber Hour lays a drum-work out that just sits and waits, pulling you further in the midi-groove, before Zanzibar's floating voice leads to digi-synth bass interplay. Who is top and who is bottom doesn't matter, let it ride.

Closer has you listening closely, with sharp, chopped No NY guitar-like-synth, contorting with distorted echo-vox, down to the bottom...but you're not at the bottom. In fact, this could just be the beginning. Listen Closely.

Review: Now entering a half-decade, Emotional Rescue presents an album that took almost as long to release as the label has existed. Jorge Reyes' collaborative album with Antonio Zepeda is a masterpiece and therefore, worthy of the time and effort to share.

From cult artist to becoming an essential musical discovery, Jorge Reyes is an example that no one discovered or owns the music beyond the writer and creator.

Growing up in Mexico's 2nd City, he spent much of his life dedicated to travelling and learning music traditions and instruments. While at University to study Flute, he was involved in several influential bands of the era before going on to travel the world to further his learning, before returning to found the seminal Chac Mool group.

By the early 80s he went solo, exploring an increasing interest in the use of Prehispanic instruments mixed with electronics. In the opening songs, I-Cana and A La Izquiedra Del Colibri, the interplay between flute, guitar and vocals with TR-700, Poly 800 and DX7, all fuse his vision perfectly.

The additional contribution of Antonio Zepeda's percussion creates a timeless mystique to the album, taking you on a journey deep in the mind of one of Mexico's most important experimental artists.

Passing away at just 56, Jorge Reyes work was cut short, however he has left over a dozen albums to be explored. While critics increasingly question the valedictory of reissues, the premise on whether something should be heard is if it's good. Therefore, let A La Izquierda Del Colibri be heard.

Review: Rudy returns to Faze Action Records with an all-new collection of atmospheric and evocative tropical sounds. Last August saw the release of the By Nature EP that encapsulated the steamy and exotic textures of the Balearic sound.
This time, Midnight Safari takes up where on the beaches of Formentera, where the last EP left us. This time setting sail on a Midnight Safari with Marimba's and chugging rhythms underpinning sophisticated Piano' melodies. Following this we drop anchor and appreciate the evening breeze of In The Air with its haunting 'Cello, endless drifting arpeggio's and tropical percussion with a hint of North Africa. Reach Backless points the way squarely to the dance floor with chunky drums and synth bass, synth hooks galore and that piano solo that launches into starry evening skies.
