Review: In the three years since his last full-length outing, Personality, Scuba's stock has continued to rise, nudging him further towards to higher echelons of DJ culture. The fact that he now plays colossal rooms and festival headline slots can be heard in the more dancefloor-minded material on Claustrophobia. While some of the best material is more downtenpo and circumspect - see the heady ambience of "Transcience", the spinetingling wooziness of "All I Think About Is Death" and the immersive dubstep of "Needle Phobia" - it's the stripped-back techno throb of "PCP", hissing rhythms of "Television" and the progressive house inspired hedonism of "Why You Feel So Low" that will get most attention.

Review: Some seven years on from their last album, Invaders Must Die, The Prodigy returns, seemingly as angry, frustrated and overheated as ever. The Day Is My Enemy sees Liam Howlett and his band of merry men revisit the glory days of Fat Of The Land, smashing together a typically in-your-face blend of rugged electronics, rock-tinged riffs and bombastic beats (including, on "Rebel Radio", what appears to be the breakbeat used on "Firestarter"), with similarly full-throttle vocals. There are a couple of notable guest spots - including men-of-the-moment Sleaford Mods on the standout "Ibiza" - but for the most part it's business as usual, with Howlett conjuring up music that should keep their legion of fans happy whilst reasserting their authority as World leaders in rock-tinged EDM.

Review: Mancunian MC DRS has long been one of the most respected mic men in drum & bass, as the impressive production credits on his first two solo albums, 2010's Grown Man Biznizz and 2012's I Don't Usually Like MCs, But..., neatly proves. For this third album he's called in more favours, asking an all-star cast of studio dons - the likes of Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Skeptical, DJ Die, Addison Groove and Drumsound and Bassline Smith - to deliver killed rhythms to host his on-point lyrical flows. Mid Mic Crisis, then, sounds like a killer showcase of his talents, with the material flitting between skittering post-jungle, tech-step, soulful D&B, dubstep and, on the Toddla T produced title track (also featuring soul chanteuse Terri Walker), deliciously deep R&B.

Review: German producer Nick Hoppner has long been part of the Ostgut Ton family, releasing his first material for the imprint way back in 2007. Here he finally delivers his debut album, Folk, a set whose title hints at the warmth of his attractive, melodious and often sumptuous blends of atmospheric techno, deep house and organic-sounding instrumentation. At its' best, the album is simply superb, delivering cuts that feel equally at home seeping from home stereo systems as booming club sound systems. In this category we'd put stand outs "Come Closer", the classic sounding "Out Of", and the dub techno inspired basement hypnotism of "Rising Overheads". It is, though, all good, with Hoppner proving adept at the very specific demands of the album format.

Review: Manchester collective Akkord are one of Houndstooth's most reliable outfits, having previously delivered an album, and a smattering of EPs for the Fabric-owned imprint. HTH035 gathers together material from their last original 12", plus a quartet of remixes, two of which are brand spanking new. As usual, there's much to enjoy, with the Mancunian combo joining the dots between moody techno, dubstep, rave breakbeats and macabre ambience in their usual clinical, architecturally inspired way. The remixes are predictably strong, with the hypnotic, dreamy techno of Vatican Shadow just edging out Fis' impeccable, string-laden ambience (the epitome of Northern paganism) in the "CD highlight" stakes.

Review: Martyn's 3024 label presents last years double pack of productions from UK house man Leon Vynehall on CD. Having debuted on 3024 with last year's Open platter, Vynehall is back with Music For The Uninvited, a seven-track collection of tracks supposedly inspired by rides to school in his mother's car as a child in which he would listen to "mixed hip-hop, funk & electro tapes, Janet Jackson albums, Style Council and Stiff Little Fingers". Whilst there is plenty of the individual house sound Vynehall has developed on offer here ("It's Just (House Of Dupree)" is a certified jam) there are also more tranquil moments to bask in such as "Inside The Deku Tree" and "St Sinclair" which bookend this excellent release.

Review: After six years spent teasing and titillating with a steady stream of high value singles, David Kennedy is finally ready to release his debut full-length under the now familiar Pearson Sound alias. The first artist album to appear on the Hessle Audio imprint he co-founded with Pangaea and Ben UFO, Pearson Sound is a surprisingly sparse and otherworldly affair. Intriguingly, Kennedy's usual twisted, dubbed-out analogue rhythms largely take a back seat, with moments of tough dancefloor abandon (see "Rubber Tree" and the tipsy "Headless") playing second fiddle to stripped-back synth-scapes and otherworldly ambience. It's striking on first listen, and only gets more impressive with repeat listens.

Review: Despite his relatively tender years, there's no denying that Lewis Fautzi has a firm grasp of techno's classic inspirations. Space Exploration, his second album for Soma, mines sci-fi and stargazing for inspiration, in a similar way to many of the greats of Detroit techno. Musically, there are a few nods, too - see the classic synthesizer lines and shuffling rhythms of "IC10" and the melodious dreaminess of "Apocalypse 14" - though Fautzi's influences are much broader. Amongst the foreboding chords, Drexciyan rhythms and bubbling IDM beats, you'll also find the hypnotism of minimal techno and the expansive ambience of Pete Namlook. Together, it adds up to a formidably atmospheric set.

Review: Given the twisted, loud, ragged and at times darkly cinematic feel of Phace's music, it's perhaps unsurprising that the German producer can count Andy C, Amon Tobin, Godie, Friction and Skrillex amongst his growing fan base. Shape The Random is his fourth full-length, and expands a little on his usual themes whilst retaining the energy-packed, rhythmic spontaneity that's become a hallmark of his work. It's pretty much intense floorfillers all the way, from the growling basslines and skittish beats of "My Mind is Modular", and cyber-steppin' madness of "Empty Talk", to the bouncy tech-funk of "Imbalanced" and the riotous conclusion that is "Exit Plan".

Review: Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, the Compton-based rapper's first album since 2012's major label debut, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, has been receiving rave reviews. In truth, it's not hard to see why. Imaginative, soulful, and blessed with the looseness of live performance (a result of the use of jazz-minded live players as much as anything else), it sounds like the kind of album that may one day be hailed as a hip-hop classic. Sure, there are big name guests - Dre, Snoop, George Clinton and Thundercat included - but the focus remains on Lamar's distinctive flow and almost cinematic tales of life on L.A's streets. Given the quality of his lyrics, that's no bad thing.

Review: For his latest full-length excursion, Italian producer Alessandro 'Deep88' Pasini has joined forces with Maltese deep house sort, composer and multi-instrumentalist Melchior Sultana. In many ways, it's a match made in heaven. Sultana's impeccable playing and compositional skills are evident throughout (see the note-perfect piano solo that lifts "Yo House" into a Balearic deep house gem), and perfectly compliment Pasini's classic Italian and US house influences. It's an impressively musically rich set, all told, full of warm chords, evocative melodies, drowsy pads and shuffling grooves. While there are heavy dancefloor moments - see the saucer-eyed "Days Go By" and "Chicago" - for the most part it's a horizontal house treat.

Review: Mike Paradinas has been releasing albums for more than 20 years and throughout those two decades his music has remained relevant and at the forefront of what electronic music can be. This is the first official solo opus of his Mu-Ziq alias and it combines breakbeat drums with drum and bass basslines, rave keys, old school R&S techno, and new age, ambient themes - peppered with the keys of Aphex Twin's "On". For a combination of all that check out "Pulsar", while for something a little heavier there's "Monj2". Beatless sessions include "PRD" and for some futuristic funk nothing beats album opener "XT".

Review: When recording Depth Charged, his first album in five years, Parisian techno maverick Terrence Fixmer apparently set out to "tell a story from start to finish". That story is, perhaps predictably given his track record, an exploration of dark emotions. This manifests itself in a range of ways, from creepy ambience and bleak, droning textures, to the breathless, panicky techno of "Inside of Me" and Berghain-friendly murkiness of the rather brilliant "Pallid Light". With such subject matter, Depth Charged was never going to be a barrel of laughs, but curiously there's still beauty to be find within the clandestine electronics and hypnotic, late night rhythms.

Review: Given the saucer-eyed beauty and analogue rich grooves of his 2012 debut album for 100% Silk, Kingdoms, it's perhaps unsurprising that Sam Velenti moved quickly to sign Matt 'Fort Romeau' Green to Ghostly International. A pair of impressive EPs later, Green delivers his second LP. It's another cracker, with breezy, occasionally electrofunk-influenced analogue deep house and leftfield synth-pop grooves being peppered with an enticing range of dreamy chords, curious vocoder vocals and, most notably, deliciously evocative melodies. It makes for hugely enjoyable listening throughout, with highlights including - but not confined to - the new age ambient bliss of "IKB" and humid, chiming "Cloche".

Review: There can be few curves in artistic development between albums as the one Jam City has undertaken here with Dream A Garden. His 2012 debut album Classical Curves has had a seismic influence on the structure of much UK club music since then, but instead of further developing and finessing those sonic ideas Jack Latham has gone a whole other route into fully fledged song writing. Or perhaps not, Night Slugs suggest the nine track album is not a total break from the hyper-realised world Latham explored on Classical Curves, it should be seen as an inversion, asking "what becomes of the people struggling to live and love beneath the chrome-plated, vacuous and superficial machinery that we must fight to see beyond?" A bold move by artist and label that demands further investigation!

Review: Wow, this is quite some album from Planet Mu! You may not be so familiar with Jlin, a footwork producer with a couple of contributions to the second Bangs & Works compilation Planet Mu released, but the Indiana based artist is quite the talent on the basis of Dark Energy. Jlin has gone on record to say this album has been in gestation from some time and explores darker themes than you would usually get on a footwork album. There's a real confidence to her productions at times on this album, "Black Diamond" in particular has a wonderful swagger to its syncopation, and in "Expand" Jlin offers an intriguing collaboration with RVNG Intl's resident voice manipulator Holly Herndon.

Review: To date, the defining characteristic of Uncanny Valley has been their strong focus and support for local Dresden artists, musicians, and producers. The fact their latest album project comes from Joel Alter, the Swedish producer best known for his long running role in the Jonsson / Alter project, should not be understated. However you shouldn't see this as Uncanny Valley forgetting their roots, it's more a statement of their current cachet in the underground. Back to the music; Heart is Alter's debut solo LP and is apparently an album he has been meaning to commit to for some time. Featuring the odd vocal track, it's filled with deep, warm and enveloping house music and feels like one of those classic electronic albums German labels seem to be so good at after you've spent some time with it.

Review: There's always been something genuinely intriguing about German eccentrics Pollyester, who give the impression of either being unashamedly bonkers, or just overly imaginative. Their tongue-in-cheek blends of krautrock, synth-pop, disco and charity shop electronics - previously seen on Permanent Vacation, amongst others - really shouldn't work, but they consistently deliver entertaining releases. City of O, the combo's third full-length excursion, may well be their strongest album yet. It's packed with highlights, from the cheery disco release of "Catrina" and wonky synthesizer oddness of "City Of Orion I", to the chugging, electroclash influenced "Jealousie" and sugary-sweet "Fall Out Of Love".
