The Feeling Is Strong (7:36)
Long Time Dancing (7:34)
Review: The latest volume in Kolour LTD's popular ten-inch series comes from Dicky Trisco, a producer arguably better known for his impeccable scalpel jobs than his original productions. The two tracks here sit somewhere between the two, building tasty dancefloor tools out a swathe of samples and a handful of new musical elements. Rahaan style A-side "The Feeling Is Strong" peppers a rubbery, bass-heavy disco groove with jammed-out electric piano lines and razor-sharp guitars. On the flip, Trisco adds weighty new drums to a looped-up old disco/boogie fusion jam. So while the vocal-heavy samples scream disco, the alien synths and mutant funk electronics are closer to vintage electrofunk.

Tanzania (6:33)
I Need Me (7:16)
Are You Somebody? (6:22)
Humans After All (6:55)
Review: Fresh from an acclaimed outing on FACES, Giovanni Damico pops up on Marcel Vogel's inspired Lumberjacks In Hell label. The Italian producer is naturally in fine form here, with A-side "Tanzania" - a breezy, house-friendly rework of what sounds like a Tanzanian boogie cut - being one of the most addictive and life-affirming edits we've heard this month. You'll find more wiggling synthesizer lines on the deliciously dreamy and evocative deep house shuffler "I Need Me", while "Are You Somebody" is a successful exercise in subtly beefing up a low-slung disco-funk number. As if that wasn't enough to set the juices flowing, he completes a brilliant E.P with the jazz-fuelled deep house smokiness of "Humans After All".

Marcel Vogel - "I Got Jesus" (Karizma Stomp dub) (7:47)
Review: Lumberjacks In Hell just keep on trucking, this time calling upon the legendary skills of Karizma in setting their latest A side alight. "Work It Out" is a fiery slice of gospel choppery, whipping up a fevered line in vocal insistence that hardly needs a rhythm section to make you move, but still has the necessary goods underneath the hood. Marcel Vogel follows a similar tact on "I Got Jesus", spacing the jam out and working a bit more groove, but certainly tapping into the same spiritually enhanced vein. Karizma then returns to make an aptly named "Stomp Dub" of the track, rounding off an absolute beast of a party record.

Review: Massive boogie joint from 1982, Frazelle's "Today Is The Day" packs the same punch it did 35 years ago; stomping beats, salubrious guitars, widescreen production and gutsy vocals from Ken Frazelle himself. Powerful in the lyrical, technical and party dynamics this is a huge dancefloor record... This reissue is long overdue. You know what to do.

Escravos De Jo (9:52)
Nana Love Dub (7:45)
Review: Preston's Cottam continues on his winning streak, following up great releases recently on Versatile, his eponymous imprint and the impressive Ruff Draft edits series. Following on in the style of the latter, Ele Records "is dedicated to sourcing and sharing dusty, sample based music inspired by the rich soundscape of early hip hop and house productions." Cottam's trademark sample based house is back on this release. Delving into his box of records to produce some sample heavy cuts, slowed down to a sexy shuffling groove. On the A side is an edit of Dom Um Romao's legendary "Escravos de Jo" from 1976, first popularized by Joe Claussell and Kerri Chandler at the turn of the millennium. On the flip is an edit of Nena Love, a London-based singer of Ghanaian origin most renowned for her 1978 album Disco Documentary: where "I'm In Love" originally appeared. Cottam's edit distilling the groove into is raw element and its real saucy!

Review: Another super-limited Phantom Island 12" washes up on our shore... Forecasting the warmer months ahead, there's a strong Balearic punch throughout. Label founder Lexx's Turning Tides project top and tail the affair with two delicious shimmering grooves - the dubby Silver City-style "Giving Me Everything" and the soft, touching emotional finale "Lullaby" - while between Florin Buchel gets tropical on the fittingly titled "Cosmic Inflation" and Volt-Face throw a smidgeon of crisp acid and African chants into the blend. Uncommonly special.

Just Do You (instrumental) (6:23)
Review: Soundway has high hopes for the third album by "underground super-producer" Lord Echo. That set is due to appear in early 2017, and as a taster, they've decided to drop this fine single. "Just Do You" features the vocals of Mara TK of Electric Wire Hustle fame, and is a deliciously cheery chunk of Caribbean inspired dub disco indulgence. It's accompanied by a fine Dub - which, naturally, features more tape delay and a tougher, stripped back groove - and an instrumental version. There's also a bonus cut in the shape of "Only You", which features regular Lord Echo collaborator Toby Laing, best known as a member of globe-trotting Kiwi supergroup Fat Freddy's Drop.

Track 1 (11:04)
Track 2 (8:03)
Review: The number 13 may be unlucky for some, but it appears to have had no effect on the quality of the Secret Squirrels' club-ready disco manipulations. In fact, it could be argued that the series' 13th vinyl missive is amongst its best to date. A-side "Track 1" makes merry with a throbbing, piano-heavy disco number, adding expert chops, loops and house style drums for guaranteed dancefloor pleasure. The temperature is raised further on flipside "Track 2", where punchy horn lines, life-affirming organ solos, undulating electronics and dubbed-out vocal samples ride a beefed-up disco-funk groove. As usual, the original source material and editors responsible are closely guarded secrets, but neither really matters; these are scorching dancefloor jams, and that's all that counts.

Review: Repress of the sought after Mukatsuku Records 12 containing two remastered tracks of Atlanta musician Ojeda Penn presented here according to Ojeda officially for the very first time. The A side kicks off with the extended holy grail instrumental version of 'Brotherson' taken from the Happiness album. There were two versions of the album Happiness in 1980 on the IFE independent label. They looked almost identical but the first version contained the now rarer elongated 9 & half minute jazz fused instrumental version of 'Brotherson' and then a few months later Penn recut the same album but with a much shorter version of the main track but this time adding strings and vocals assisted by Tommy Stewart from 'Bump N Hustle Music' fame. The former version is now being sold up to 500 dollors so this 180 gram single is a welcome release to the reissue market. Juno copies come in an exclusive branded card sleeve + sticker

Dancin Is Your Love (5:26)
Review: As always, Washington DC' Peoples Potential Unlimited have resurfaced another rare-as-hens-teeth boogie number and, while we are madly in love with this label, we need to appreciate more just how important they've been to the survival of funk music in recent years. This time, it's Donald Walker's only EP to grace their catalogue, an artist who went by the name of Dohnnie on his solo projects. "Dancin Is Your Love" exudes funk from every corner, backed by a badman bassline, some freaky guitar strings, and Walker's own seductive disco tone. It's a one-track EP precisely because this tune deserves to grace a whole side of a 12". Utterly unmissable, and heavily recommended.

Freak Hodja (4:59)
Roki (4:31)
Syfilis (5:41)
Review: We know little of Ajvar Soundystem, but we always like an artist who comes through uninvited and accompanied by a new label. That's the way things should be. What we can say about Take Away 001 is that "Freak Hodja" is a glorious disco number with the perect balance of Arabic vocalism - a blend that is unfortunately not heard too often around these parts. "Roki" is faster, nuttier, and focusses more on the percussion elements, a zesty, freaky blend of drums and funked-out samples, while "Syfilis" is an absolute crowd-pleaser - a tune that you'll be singing along to without knowing a word or its meaning (unless you speak Arabic, of course).

Back Of The Yards (6:54)
Review: A quick glance at the list of DJs who have charted this release should tell you that it's a pretty significant release. It's David Rendle's first release in four years under the System Status alias, and contains four cuts rich in tapped-out, MPC style beats, jammed-out keys, and the kind of meandering, high-register synthesizer solos that were once a feature of vintage boogie productions. Rendle successfully doffs a cap to rich and jazzy deep house, whilst retaining a modern boogie feel throughout. It's probably the fluidity and expansive musicality that's caught the attention of so many DJs, though the analogue-rich beauty of tracks like "Back of the Yards" and "Janice" may also have something to do with it.

Review: Not just a beautiful compliment to pay someone special, but a hugely influential record that inspired Floating Points' now legendary Plastic People parties, too... A super obscure and expensive one at that. Now re-issued on Floating Points' own Melodies imprint - across three 45s - the Detroit band get full exposure with the deliciously funky main track enjoying two versions before dipping into the softer, more pastoral charms of "I Feel Like Dancing" and the string-led swoon festival, "Theme For Someone Special". We close on two contrasting grooves; an earthy ballad ("Trust Me") and a Whitfield & Strong style funk instrumental ("Dance Awhile"). Cheers Sam!

Pajama Stomp (6:36)
Review: For their latest journey into re-edit/original production fusion, Brooklyn's Razor 'N' Tape crew has turned to Munich duo COEO, who have previously impressed via fine outings on Toy Tonics and Let's Play House. The four-tracks here, which all blend samples from classic recordings with their own drums and musical flourishes, all sound like guaranteed dancefloor winners. Check, for example, the breezy Afro-beat-goes-disco cheeriness of "Nigerian Affair", the wonderfully rich keys and organic deep house bump of "Pajama Stomp", and the riotous, high-octane disco-house loop-funk of "Long Night Ahead". Best of all, though, is opener "Like It Is", a sweet, dewy-eyed, string-drenched soul revision that achieves the perfect balance between dancefloor grunt, and paying due reverence to the German duo's horn-heavy source material.

Review: Jonny Rock has been doing it for years, from landing on Music For Freaks and Playhouse in the 00s through to charming the likes of Futureboogie and Oye Edits just last year. His muscular synth sound is a perfect fit on Bahnsteig 23, dealing in an impeccable encapsulation of 80s production principles to make killer dancefloor tracks that transcend the ages. "Unidentified Robot" is a particularly fun and freaky jam, while the "Megaeditofanedit" turns up the schlock factor to a devastating degree. This is party music as slick as it is silly, making for an irresistible combination to get the party started.

Review: This latest multi-artist EP from good-time re-edit specialists Wall of Fame is predictably on-point. It hits home hard from the word go, with the hard-nosed disco guitars, boogie-house grooves and looped backing vocals of James Rod's thrilling "You More". Napoleon's "Wonderful Woman" is a fantastically celebratory rework of a well-known space disco classic, while Lemon Mint's "Stop Fishin" turns a lesser-known AOR disco cut into a loopy disco-house shuffler. Speaking of disco-house, Mosaik's deep and groovy "Cassette" could well be the EP's standout moment.

Review: Since first appearing back in 2011, DJ Osmose's Smokecloud Records has developed into one of the more reliable sources of pitched down, dubbed-out disco reworks. The label's Bedroom Disco series - so called, we suspect, because the edits tend towards the seductive and sensual - launched in 2014, and here returns for the first time since. There's much to admire, from the beatdown disco shuffle of Osmose's "Solid Game" and the rubbery, slo-mo disco-funk shuffle of The Silver Rider's hypnotic "Luv Ur Lyfe", and Osmose's delay and filter heavy AOR disco re-shape, "Stone Dance". Best of all, though, is Osmose's remix of King Most's "Fiesta Forever", a deliciously Balearic, glassy-eyed re-imagining of Lionel Richie's "All Night Long".
