Voodoocuts - "Kelja" (7:20)
Voodoocuts - "The Tortoise Loop" (2:55)
SoulBrigada - "Hustlema" (5:15)
SoulBrigada - "Madera" (4:05)
Review: New vinyl-only label Matasuna Records enters the fray with a stated focus on reworks of rare & forgotten music treasures from all over the world. The debut release, a 12" featuring four DJ-friendly edits from Voodoocuts and SoulBrigada sets the tone and has a fine titular pun to boot in Afreaka! Voodoocuts takes the A-side duties, pairing up the raw '70s Ivory Coast funk of "Kelja" with the steamy Latin styles of "Tortoise Loops". Those wanting something a bit more disco in sound will gravitate towards the "Hustleman" edit from SoulBrigada which originates from West Africa and has a killer horn line!!! "Madera" sees SoulBrigada look to Cape Verde for source material and features some subtle additions.

Amazigh (10:08)
In The Mood For Deepness (5:39)
Review: Since debuting on the Highlife Edits series, Swiss digger collective Alma Negra have really blossomed, with their fusionist dancefloor style developing across further 12"s for that aforementioned label as well as Sofrito and Basic Fingers. The Diggers Workout Part 1 sees the quartet return to the Basic Fingers fold with a fresh four-track grip of goodness to satisfy the appetites of DJs everywhere. Presumably the onset of an ongoing series for Basic Finger, Part 1 sees three Alma Negra originals further complemented by a remix from Highlife pal Esa. Of the originals, the rather lush beat down of "Fala Flute" really stands out, with Esa teasing out a whole new sound on his subsequent 'live' remix with Santuri. Great 12".

Third Wish
Third Wish (Tiago remix)
Review: Continuing the Soft Rocks anglo-Australian exchange program we are very excited to announce Kinfolk number 9. This comes from our Melbourne homies Nick Murray of Animals Dancing / Otologic and Power Station's Kris Baha. A1 cut 'Besom' comes out with all guns blazing with a guitar fit for leaping around your bedroom with an old broom, whilst 'Bonzai Sunset' finds the boys in a more reflective, dare we say, tropical mood. Flip over to the B and we've got another banger in the shape of 'Third Wish' and we've even chucked in a gnarly remix from Portugal's finest Tiago. BOOM!

Asymmetric (6:02)
Dice (6:09)
Bad Girl (6:25)
Filtered Light (4:53)
Review: Mathieu Cle's Closed Paradise follows up his superb Masterworks release earlier this year with another delicate, deep and downright heady EP. This time four tracks are in the offing, each one as robust and loopy as the last; from the slippery bass slaps of "Asymmetrical" and the crowd's whoops and hollers on "Dice" right through the teasing piano and vocal echo loops on "Bad Girl" and the slower, sexier deep disco funk of "Filtered Light", Cle's understanding of DJ dynamics and dancefloor desires are as chiselled as possible... Good times guaranteed.

Track 1 (6:03)
Track 2 (6:52)
Review: The Basement beckons for another all-out funk showdown: Booker takes the lead on the A with bright horns, a clam-tight guitar line, big vox chants on the chorus and an overall message to move every muscle in your keister. Dicky runs point on the B with an electro boogie twang thanks to the rigid kicks and bumpy slap bass. Dipping its twinkling toes into jazz territory mid-way, the Basement remains on lockdown for the foreseeable.

The Man Who Took My Sunglasses (Session Victim remix) (5:20)
Balls & Pins (DJ Milo remix) (4:19)
People Everywhere (Maribou State remix) (5:07)
Zionsville (Vuelo remix) (4:11)
Review: Released on the Night Time Stories Ltd subsidiary of Late Night Tales last year, Khruangbin's debut album, The Universe Smiles Upon You, was quite the unique proposition; a wholly psychedelic homage to '60s Thai rock/funk. Tracks from that LP form the basis of this latest 12" from Future Boogie's own sub-label Boogie Futuro which, as the title suggests, features some killer remixers doing their thing to Khruangbin. Session Victim bring a sense of deep house class to "The Man Who Stole My Sunglasses," identifying some cooing vocal tones that work so well amidst the shuffle of their Hamburg groove, whilst DJ Milo's tweak of "Balls & Pins" proves he's lost none of his talent for using samples effectively. Maribou State get their percussion on with the heat-treated take on "People Everywhere", leaving Vuelo to deliver a sense of space with his dubbed out revision of "Zionsville."

Alan Mooney's Edits - "By My Side" (7:55)
Vincenzo De Bull - "Don't Tell Me Tell Her" (6:56)
Napoleon - "Gotta Keep Moving" (6:46)
Queen & Disco - "Satisfied" (7:35)
Review: Almost 18 months in the making; Derry doyens Q&D return with another beautifully detailed four track edit collection that's limited to 500 presses. Alan Mooney starts with bus with less of an edit and more of a stunning lesson in samplecraft as the ghost of Jacko creeps in and out of the filters. Vincenzo De Bull ups the tempo ante with a big loopy disco house gem while Napoleon conquers any dance with an edit of a Costa Rican disco delight. Finally the whole crew wind the EP with instantly distinctive strings and a thundering diva-drenched groove. You won't be able to stop yourselves...

SOS Band - "Tell Me If You Still Care" (remastered unreleased demo Dub mix) (5:58)
Review: Sunshine Sound move up a gear for their sixth release with more previously unreleased gold previously the sole preserve of DATs and master reels. The versions of "Picking Up Promises" are a by an unknown band and singer and acted as a demo test for Jocelyn Brown's electro boogie hit that would arrive two years later. With shades of big disco instrumentation but strong roots in soul, you can hear why Brown was picked for the job. Flip for more sweet unique demo business courtesy of the S.O.S Band as the original recordings of "Tell Me If You Still Care" still tremble with 80s synth and fretless bass soul. Sunny side up.

Delicious Light (Teeth Of The Sea rework) (5:20)
Review: Ahead of Erol Alkan and Richard Norris' debut album as the urban-slanging Beyond The Wizards Sleeve, Phantasy Sound have commissioned remixes two album tracks. "Creation", originally, is a psychedelic folky number reminiscent of '70s group Family Fodder which Psychemagik dub down into fusionists mix of aqueous and cosmic vibes, with its strains of folk kept intact. Meanwhile menacing tones come from London psych group Teeth Of The Sea who turn "Delicious Light" into something you'd imagine hearing on Blackest Ever Black.

Alma De Fago (7:32)
Mystic Mountain (6:27)
Review: Jon Tye and Ruf Dug debuted the Cherry Garcia project in January 2015, delivering a much-lauded EP of cosmic vibrations and psychedelic dub textures for Golf Channel Recordings. Here, they return to the same label with another quartet of hazy, Balearic-minded workouts. There's naturally much to admire, from the fuzzy guitars, grandiose dub effects and psychedelic throb of "Kill Your Speed", to the delightfully spaced-out swirl of superb closer "Mystic Mountain". While the more dub disco influenced thump of opener "I Am The Circle" takes care of dancefloor business, it's the humid dub rhythms and tropical textures of "Alma De Fago" that arguably stands out.

Where Do We Go From Here? (Andres alt remix) (7:02)
Where Do We Go From Here? (LTJ Xperience remix) (8:40)
Review: The past six years have seen Far Out call on the great and the good to rework material by the Dave Brinkworth and Daniel Maunick-led ensemble, Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra with John Morales, Mark E, Theo Parrish, Marcellus Pittman, Dego and DJ Spinna among the contributors. La Vida man Andres is pulling ahead of the competition in terms of appearances on the series, having contributed two remixes in the space of a year. He's back for a third time with an alternate mix to "Where Do We Go From Here" alongside LTJ Experience man Luca Trevisi. Whilst the Andres mix of the track that featured on a 12" earlier this year was an exercise in chopped simplicity, there is a touch more complexity to this alternate take which shows off his ear for warming musicality. The LTJ take is super deep and super good!

Atai (5:47)
Juok (6:00)
Levare (3:09)
Review: Highlife's Highlands hero Cain returns with three more completely unique afro/techno fusions. "Atai" thumps from the off with flappy kora licks loosely leading the groove. "Juok" strips things back to percussion and an ominous sub driving tension before the big kick drum release. Finally we land with "Levare" that adopts a classic dancehall/breakbeat arrangement for its structure while accordions woozily wheeze gently in the background and dubby horn textures float heavily in the foreground.

Punya (4:08)
Atmosfear (4:19)
Ban Ki (4:23)
Nite High (4:07)
Review: Anything... A fitting title for such the sprawling melodic swamp of ideas, textures and tones that comprises the fifth album LA-based funkateer Wes Gray has released as Moon B. Landing in the same sumptuous zone as his records for PPU, Going Good and others, each cut could easily branch out into several as refrains and melodic tangents fly and whirl around a touchstone cosmic beat. From the lo-fi, sun-melted Betamax soul of "Punya" to the chewy gluey electro boogie of "Atmosfear" and the dense disco dynamics of "Ban Ki", Moon B's deep dream leftfield fusion keeps on ploughing into the electronic unknown where Anything goes.

Dreems - "Sine 'O' The Tymes" (7:17)
Nick Murray & Kris Baha - "Say Something" (7:18)
Ccolo - "F33lings" (3:54)
Review: The second installment of Multi-Culti's Moon Faze Sun Gaze series is a typically psychedelic affair, with an impressive cast of producers delivering a quintet of trippy workouts. Von Party & Dreems join forces to present "Wet Raga", a spaced-out combination of delay-laden drums, space disco electronics, and Eastern mysticism. The ever-reliable Red Axes fuses heavy post-punk bass, with punchy percussion and minimal wave melodies on the excellent "Boosha Gdola", while Dreems go solo on the weirdo acid-electro bubbler "Sine O'The Tymes". Nick Murray and Kris Baha underpin psychedelic disco electronics with the heavyweight throb of house on "Say Something", before Cocolo draws proceedings to a close with the pitched-down shuffle of analogue wobbler "F33lings".

Don't Stop (7:15)
Do It Again (5:27)
Review: Moroder affiliates K.I.D stormed the disco scene in 1980 with their debut long player Don't Stop on New York imprint Sam. This was the second single to come from the album in 1981 and "Don't Stop" has had the Dickens sampled out of it ever since; the big trancy arpeggio still sounding obese and the big chorus funk still wholly infectious 35 years later. Flip for "Do It Again" for a more upbeat disco dynamic.
