Review: The Whatnauts formed in 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland and are a perfect soul group with a heart-aching blue-eyed sound. Their original albums are very hard and very expensive to find but have thankfully been reissued over the years. This one is 1972's standout Whatnauts On The Rocks, a mega rare and mega good fusion of soul, funk and disco. As well as all the tender and vulnerable originals that come on raw, slow-burning rhythms with delightful harmonies, there is also a bonus cut 'Help Is On The Way' which picks up the pace and has the funkiest bassline you can possibly imagine.
