Review: Piero Umiliani is an Italian jazz musician, most famous also for his dalliances in scoring many film soundtracks. The compositions here, have been credited to Rovi (another alias used by Umiliani). This LP made by ten tracks that could have been the perfect soundtrack of a 'Commedia Sexy All'Italiana' (a genre characterised by sex-based plots and bawdy jokes). At that time in Italy disco had still an exotic appeal and was considered apt to accompany a genre of movies that was at once erotic and comic. Discomusic is some sort of a white version of a sound that is inherently black, a unique record within Umiliani's discography. The track Discomania became popular as the closing theme of 90- Minuto, a famous Italian football TV show, bringing Umiliani's music to millions of Italian households.

Tascam TM AR1 Acoustic Control Filter

Tascam TM AR1 Acoustic Control Filter (acoustic control filter)
Cat: 638683 Rel: 03 Apr 17
Lightweight, adjustable acoustic control filter for minimizing reflections & unwanted room ambience
Notes: TM-AR1 is an acoustic control filter that helps you to achieve a dry sound from your microphone for recording. It absorbs sound that would normally reflect in your room and come back to your mic while also preventing ambient noise from reaching the microphone's rear and sides. The result is a much dryer and clearer sound that can be processed more easily.

Setting up the TM-AR1 is simple. You can attach it to your floor microphone stand using two robust screws. Two adjustable mic holder bars with different length are included to hold your shock mount or clip with any microphone. The distance between holder bar and rear panel is adjustable. Or you can use the arm of your boom stand for holding the mic if you need more flexibility. Foldable wings are space-savers when the control filter is not in use and allow adjustments according to your environment.

Take the room out of your recordings:
Designed to minimize reflections and unwanted room ambience, the TASCAM TM-AR1 helps to to manage what your microphone hears, giving you more control over your finished tracks.

Easily mounts to most microphone stands:
Lightweight and adjustable the TASCAM TM-AR1 can easily be mounted to virtually any standard microphone stand and allows for fast and easy mic placement adjustments

Folds for easy storage:
Unique folding design enables the TASCAM TM-AR1 to easily be stored when not in use

Review: More from Liverpool-based analogue freak ASOK, a producer who is quickly becoming "Mr Reliable". Inner Circle marks his first appearance on Lobster Theremin offshoot Mork and sees the Scenery Records founder showcase a quartet of analogue deep house jams. Both "Inner Circle" and "Planetfall" are marked out by an appealing combination of spacey chords, Motor City electronics and on-point - if pleasingly off-kilter - drum machine programming. Intergalactic melodies, drawn-out sub bass and Chicago influenced machine drums come to the fore on the superb "30 Hours", while closer "Terran Envoy" sees out hero make merry with distorted drums, ghostly chords and some seriously trippy vocal samples.

  3. Ray Kandinski - "Ways Of The Underground" (5:22)
  4. Sonderr - "Method" (5:56)
Review: The Lit Level series continues with another strong, multi-artist collection of deep house cuts. Baltra steps up first, combining Motor City style cymbals patterns, lilting chord progressions and punchy drum machine hits on the fuzzy "Never Let Go (Of Me)", before YancityGurl dives deep into the ocean depths via the rock solid kick drums and woozy pads of "We Leave". Flip for a chunk of tech-tinged, ghetto-inspired wooziness from experienced producer Ray Kandinski and the distorted, analogue-rich positivity of Sonderr's "Method". With its ghostly chords, quirky vocal samples, subtle acid lines and spacey chords, the track offers just the right balance between dancefloor weight and head-in-the-clouds beauty.

Review: Via releases on Smalleville and Mule Musiq (amongst others), Parisian producer Jacques Bon has established himself as one of France's foremost purveyors of loved-up, soft-focus deep house melodiousness. On this Beats In Space debut, he continues on a similar theme, wrapping fluttering, Balearic electronics and eyes-closed chords around a tactile, acid-flecked deep house groove on superb opener "Island". While "We Are" is similarly drowsy and yearning in feel, "Aura" sees him bring squelchy acid bass to the fore in a successful bid to mix things up a bit. This is explored further on closer "Dawning Light", a stripped-back house jam built around a killer groove and nagging acid lines.

  1. The First Time (7:22)
  2. Personal Question (6:17)
Review: Since making his debut in 2014, Bontan has made a serious impression. This first outing on Hot Creations follows much-played material on Madtech, Circus, Toolroom, Cajual and Suara. "The First Time" is retro-futurist in feel, featuring as it does a combination of undulating, acid-style motifs, jacking Chicago-style drum fills, bouncy tech-house beats and a drowsy, seemingly sampled spoken word vocal. Flipside "Personal Question" takes a similar sonic approach, utilizing a bolder, Adonis style bassline, nagging bleep noises, and delay-laden vocal snippets to conjure a sweaty, late night mood. Both tracks are solid rather than sensational, but undoubtedly have the right blend of ingredients to cause major dancefloor devastation.

Review: Following fine releases from Kensuka Fukushima and Robot Love, Kreattones has turned to label-hopping deep house producer Jesse Bru for EP number three. Title track "Day Tripper" is the audio equivalent of a gentle summer breeze; all watery electronics, clipped jazz bass, cloudy chords and rolling drums. The hazy warmth continues on synth bass propelled shuffler "I Want U", before Bru does his best Andres impression on the deep, jazzy and gently bumping "They Told Me". To round things off, he drops a chunk of soulful nostalgia in the shape of "Remember How It Used To Be", which makes great use of female vocal samples and repetitive organ chords.

Review: Toolroom welcomes exciting new prospect Max Chapman to their flagship label. He burst onto the scene three years ago with great releases on Elrow, Snatch, Viva and Lost. He teams up with up and coming maestro George Smeddles here for two quality jams on this great EP. "Zulu" on the A side is the kind of rolling and funky tech house that just reeks of White Isle hedonism and will appeal to fans of Lost, Material Series or Knee Deep in Sound. On the flip "Charger" will absolutely blow the doors off any venue with its pounding groove and wall of bass which you could imagine Marco Carola or Paco Osuna playing at peak time in the main room.

Review: Phil Weeks' Parisian powerhouse taps one of his hometown heroes for the label's next release: none other than the man D'julz who throws down the Foxxy EP and you can bet your ass it's hella sexy and well funky! On the first side, "Ze Fox" (12" mix) is exactly the kind of deep down and dirty loop business that rips some fine disco joints into ergonomic perfection. The French Touch undoubtedly comes through on next offering "Big Kid" this is deeply uplifting house with a tough element to it with its gutsy rhythms and evocative strings. Finally "Next" is classic Julien Veniel; the kind of slinky and liquid grooves he was throwing down on 2020 Vision or Ovum in the early noughties.

Review: Japanese master of hypnotic techno returns on Bitta. His new jam "Koko" is Millsian style trance induction full of sonar bleeps, tribal rhythms and textured chimes all working in perfect unison. Homeboy and fellow legend Takaaki Itoh steps up and delivers an absolutely explosive rendition: his droney and hi-tech experiment reaches near psychedelic moments that Mike Parker can. On the flip there's a handy edit which strips the track into its raw essence on this nice DJ tool before Iori steps in to give the track that deep and ethereal Prologue sound. Following up great releases by Wata Igarashi, Steven POrter and the aforementioned Iori, this label is on to good things.

Review: The latest 12" from long-running Sahko offshoot Keys Of Life is the first of two split 'Balearic' releases from Sex Tags man DJ Sotofett and SUED co-founder SVN.. Sotofett's "Current 82" is a thing of rare beauty; an ambient house inspired chunk of lucid, mid-tempo dreaminess full of fluid chords, subtle, loved-up melodies and early Italian deep house bottom end. SVN continue the deep theme whilst doffing a cap to techno on flipside "Dark Plan 5". Their chords and pads are every bit as life-affirming as Sotofett's - even if they are a touch on the bittersweet side - but the accompanying up-tempo rhythm has a more ready-made dancefloor feel. Either way, both tracks are superb.

Review: If you heard this collaboration between female vocal duo Ekkah and Dam Funk without knowing the identities of those involved, you would automatically assume that it was a little-known '80s soul EP. Both of the original tracks showcased here - "What's Up" and "Space Between Us" - sparkle with authentic 1980s synth-soul flavours, from the use of distinctive TR-808 cowbells and tactile synthesized basslines, to the vibrant colours of producer Dam Funk's colourful chords and melodies. Ekkah's vocals, too, are deliciously evocative and emotion-rich, conjuring images of cruising down Sunset Boulevard in the early hours in a soft-top convertible, killer boogie jams playing on the radio. The silkscreen sleeve is a thing of rare beauty, too.

Review: Well over a decade after emerging out of the Edmonton club scene, Normals Welcome has finally put together a compilation of sorts. The simply titled Various 01 gathers together tracks from four analogue-loving production talents. ESB kicks things off with "Words For Us", a warming deep house shuffler full of dreamy chord progressions and intergalactic electronics. Ambien Baby doffs a cap to early ambient house classics via the soft focus beats, echo-laden noises and gentle melodies of "AB2", while the Paranomasiac (try saying that while drunk) takes a trip into deep electro pastures on the rather tasty "Chill Haze". Finally, Metropolitan Soul Museum goes all ambient techno via the sweat-soaked drum machine rhythms and psychedelic acid lines of "Sun Sun".

Review: UK deep broken beat nu-jazz shenanigans from one very talented young producer named William Florelle with the Two & Three EP for Wot Not. First track "As The Sun Sets" is some jagged and soulful deepness that follows in the tradition on Kaidi Tatham, 4hero or Recloose. Other tracks "Next Time I'll Learn" or "Follow" are deeper R&B jams with sultry vocals accompanied by dusty blunted beats; but all rather evocative. On the flip there is some great remixes but we were particularly fond of K15's rather Detroit sounding remix of "Next Time I'll Learn" that had that real Theo Parrish or Rick Wilhite kinda vibe about it. Hotlanta's Stefan Ringer handing in a fairly nifty rendition of "Follow".

"At Once" struts with loose-strung bass, slinky beats and a possibly a vocal lament for days pre-social media (although we might be looking too deeply into that) "Stripes", meanwhile, goes back to the source: Arthur Russell's Felix guise with a slightly spiky, barbed twist on "Tiger Stripes". Review: The mysterious J M S Khosmah, previously known for creating weird and wonderful workouts for stupidly limited cassette releases on NCA, has graduated to Funkineven's Apron imprint. Given his closeness with fellow Apron artist Brassfoot, this isn't much of a surprise. As vinyl debuts go, Still Human is pretty good. There's plenty of variety on show, with Khosmah first layering chiming, minor key melodies and swirling textures on top of a jackin' groove ("Actuality"), before turning cut-up jazz-funk samples into a distorted deep house loop jam ("In & Out"). Flip the records for the punchy, scattergun drum machine hits, odd noises and sparkling pianos of "Sancha", and the dirt-encrusted late night sweatiness of "Doubt".

  4. Sweet Life - "I Get Lifted" (Medlar dub) (5:52)
Review: On this officially licensed release, Wolf Music regular Medlar gets a chance to rework some of his favourite West End Records tracks. He's done a fine job, too, delivering reworks that suit contemporary dancefloors, while paying due reverence to the superb source material. He begins by rearranging and extending Shirley Lites' most famous moment, the boogie-era brilliance of "Heat You Up (Melt You Down)", before slicing together bits of the vocal and instrumental versions of Love Club's steamy electrofunk slammer "Hot Summer Nights". On the flip, he heads towards more traditional disco territory, first cutting up Kenix's sweet hearted "There's Never Been (No One Like You)", before reaching for the dub effects on a brilliant revision of Sweet Life's "I Get Lifted".

  3. Working K (Krikor edit) (5:15)
  4. Working K (SB Forgotten Sounds mix) (6:40)
Review: Despite the pastoral, park-based imagery utilized on the sleeve, Denis Morin's Working K is hardly a paragon of gentle beauty. While the main mix does make use of some picturesque elements - twinkling pianos, cascading guitar lines and birdsong - these have been heavily effected with delay and reverb, and tumble down over a restless kick drum pattern and wild electronics. The trippy Work It Out Mix begins as a field recording-heavy ambient house number, before morphing into a chunk of quirky, tropical-fired oddness midway through. Elsewhere, Krikor turns it into a lo-fi EBM throbber, while the EB Forgotten Sounds Mix teases maximum beauty from Morin's original sounds whilst ensuring a steady dancefloor pulse.

  1. Move D - "Roll Split" (7:23)
  2. Reagenz - "460 Melrose Ave" (9:15)
Review: Since the dawn of the 1990s, David "Move D" Moufang has been one of house and techno's most reliable producers. It's no surprise, then, that this double-header - featuring a solo production, and a fresh collaboration with Jonah Sharp under the long-running Reagenz alias - is pretty darn hot. Moufang's "Roll Split" is a deliciously spacey, emotion-rich and enveloping affair that builds to a head-spinning conclusion via waves of undulating Motor City electronics, tactile riffs, surging bass and intergalactic chords. The Reagenz tune, "460 Melrose Place", is similarly cosmic in outlook, with the veteran duo smothering a superb drum machine groove with stretched out chords, pulsating sub bass, glistening, ambient techno style motifs, and shuffling bongo hits.
